The other day a lolita girl I know told me that Im not lolita because I dont listen to classical (music). I told her that I do not classify myself as lolita as much as I love it. But that made me worry that I could not become lolita. Does it really matter weather or not I listen to classical?

My_Chemical_Romance_Freak The other day a lolita girl I know told me that Im not lolita because I dont listen to classical (music). I told her that I do not classify myself as lolita as much as I love it. But that made me worry that I could not become lolita. Does it really matter weather or not I listen to classical? That sounds like a pretty ridiculous requirement if you ask me. Not everyone shares the same musical tastes. Most of the other lolis that I've met don't like/listen to classical music and I adore it (I'd glomp Liszt/Chopin/Rachmaninoff if I ever saw either...in another life).

I believe the proper answer to that is "lol whut?".
Seriously, though. I, at least, listen to stuff like Blue October, t.A.T.u, Peggy Seeger, Joan Baez, Belle & Sebastian, ALI Project, and loads of J-pop and indie rock. Lolita is about being yourself and being elegant and beautiful, not about listening to classical misic.

Considering that the most talked about element of lolita is the CLOTHING, I'd say music tastes would not make or break you.
There are lifestyle lolita, but again, that's not something that music preferences can be used to define.

that's a pretty dumb thing to say... not all lolis listen to classical music! I enjoy it, but I also enjoy goth rock and metal... and chinese rap, j-pop and k-pop, and a ton of other music

TalaRayne I GUESS NO ONE IN THIS THREAD IS LOLI That's right. We are all NOTLOLIS, and we should now form an exclusive group where anyone who listens to classical music is shunned, except that I'd have to shun myself. I wish humour came across better in text. I sound so stupid.

I personaly enjoy classical music, but it would be silly to say that only people who enjoy classical music can be Lolitas.

I personally like some Rock, Alt. Rock, J-Pop, Pop, Hip-Hop, Classical, J-Rock, ect.
The type of music you like does not make or break you as a Lolita. I just have to say, "Cheer up!"

I do listen to Classical, but I also listen to Emo, Acid, J-Rock, and everything else. lol I'm not picky when it comes to music.

Who says you have to listen to classical to be Lolita (besides her of course)??? It really makes me mad when people go around making up new classifications for being Lolita (usually based on something they do), and then try to act all high and mighty because they are that thing. Well yeah, no duh, you made it up to tailor fit yourself. rolleyes I guess now if you don't listen to classical music, you can't buy Lolita cloths, or be polite and courteous to people. I too listen to classical, but that doesn't make me a lolita. I also listen to some hip hop, disco, techno, electonica, many genres of rock, metal, alternative, traditional Japanese, pop and I am also fond of some salsa music. I'm sure plenty of people who do listen to classical are NOT lolita. Plus I hate when people act like Euro classical music is the ultimate, best music ever conceived. Like it's soooo much better than any other music, including music which does not even have the same basis in purpose, culture, or anything else. >.< but that's a different argument, totally inspired by my love of traditional Japanese and Chinese music. xd
