Young paws fell silently on the desert sands, the late day sun baking on his red pelt, blazing like a wandering flame. Red eyes scanned the terrain as he trod, senses ever alert. His steps were purposeful, without hesitation, taught from his birth, Hiashi'ikusa always knew precisely where he was and where he was going.

Though he always followed the teachings of his mother, it was not a lesson that guided him on his current trek. Today he had his own motives, motives kept secret from his prying siblings.

Clutched in his jaws was a large marrow-filled bone, and it was this that had led him from the dens. As he often did, Ashi had taken a small piece of his mother's last kill, the large bone that he would bury in the sand until a time that he was hungry later, a time that he would have a snack while his siblings whined in their own pathetic hunger.

Paws fell still, bring the young form to stop near a fair sized rock that would serve as a landmark. From here he paced off in his chosen direction until he reached the desired spot. Satisfied, his paws sank into the sand, digging out the hole in which the treasure would be hidden. There was no doubt he would find it again as he always did, he knew exactly where it was.

Nothing looked familiar to the green striped female as her black tipped paws traveled across the sand. Her tongue ran over the top of her dry mouth and lips. She swallowed dryly as she blew upward in hopes of blowing the irritating bangs that were matted against her fur and partially over her left eye. Unfortunately she had no luck with that and could do nothing about it if she hoped to find shade, water and possibly food before she passed out in the middle of nowhere.

This was bad. So very, very, very bad. Zagaa'Tamanio was exhausted, thirsty, famished and worst of all in lands that she knew nothing about. It was only a matter of time before her body gave out on her and she crashed. She was lucky to still be moving at the rather rapid pace she was currently going.

The young lioness's stomach rumbled and she shut her eyes tightly trying desperately to ignore the gnawing pain of her empty stomach. When she opened her eyes her vision was a mixture or reality and black swirls and dots. Shaking her head she looked about her and barely caught sight of the male with her fuzzy vision.

Tama didn't dare call out though, it could be dangerous, yet maybe if she followed him she could find food, water or even just shade to rest under.

Dark ears twitched, red eyes narrowed. Assassin senses sharply trained, Ashi was well familiar with the desert surroundings of his home, its subtleties, its scents, and its sounds. To the warrior's ear, the sound of paws on the sand spoke loudly as a roar echoing against a canyon wall.

Paws stilling in their task, the firekin juvenile turned his head, looking, piercing gaze falling on the distant white form. She was not the first white lion Ashi had seen, and yet she was nothing like the white god or the general who now shared his mother's company. This creature did not walk with dignity or power, this creature was weak, unworthy of another glance.

He stood silent for a moment, eyes narrowed at the creature judging its intentions. He would not allow such a creature the opportunity to take his prize, thus he'd have to do something about it.

He saw me.

The thought ran across the female's mind. She had been hoping that she wouldn't be noticed and now those hopes were dashed. She froze for a minute unsure of what to do. Her first thought was to turn and run but her weak body wouldn't be able to make it too much further so there really wasn't much of a point. Gulping she continued towards the juvenile praying that he was friendly.

But from the look of his face's features it was likely that he wasn't. Still she continued onward ready for the worst, which she didn't expect to be too bad, after all he was still young from the looks of him.

She kept her maw shut because she was not sure if it would be wise to say anything just yet. Tama tried to walk with a bit more dignity, instead of the slumped way she was now. She walked a tad bit straighter.

Here we go.

Though still young, and a touch smaller than most firekin Hiashi'ikusa was far more dangerous than he appeared. However it was perhaps less his training that made him so and more his personality.

Ashi was a cold, heartless creature, his soul untouched by emotion. The approaching creature may as well have been a rat, a stick, or a rock for all he cared, it's fate was unimportant. But the prize in his jaws, that was his, he would not surrender or leave it here where the creature could simply take it.

The hole abandoned, Ashi stood to his full height, the bone still grasped in his jaws. His posture proclaimed that he was unafraid, unyielding, yet he did not snarl or bare his fangs in a threat, threats were for the weak.

Most lions his age would have run from a larger cat, most firekin would have charged the intruder either to kill, enslave, or drive the beast from their sacred lands. Ashi did neither, he did not care about intruders, they were worthless, nor was he inclined to yield even to those larger than him. However, the approaching lioness may have soon found than she had stumbled across the young firekin at the worst possible time.

Tama, having know idea of where she was, had no idea of what linage the small male quite a ways off was. She didn't know that he was firekin, that he was well....dangerous, deadly even. She merely thought him to be a cub, one who could or would possibly help her in some way shape or form.

It wasn't until she was closer that she really noticed the bone he carried. The green striped lioness had taken note that he was carrying something and now she saw clearly what it was. It took all her will power to prevent herself from drooling at the sight of the meat that still clung to it. After a few days without food it was extremely difficult to hide the fact she was starving.

His posture and look in his eyes sent a shiver down her spine but the possibility of food prevented her from turning away.

"H..hello?" She called with uncertainty.

Eyes narrowed dangerously, fangs just visible against the bone held in his jaws. He had learned much in his young life, learned to read posture, condition, and expression. The creature before him, though larger, perhaps older, was weak and deteriorated, beaten by the elements, hardly a threat to a healthy firekin.

His tail gave a single flick, the only visible change in posture. He did not warn, nor did he threaten, to do either was pointless, a practice of week individuals who felt the need to make themselves bigger, Ashi was above such needs.

"You are in a dangerous place."

His voice was calm, cold. If one hoped to judge his intentions by his tone, they would have failed. Despite the calmness of his appearance, the coolness of his voice, there was a dangerous air to him, something that spoke of the assassin he would one day become, of what he already was.

A shudder went through her body. There was something odd about the male before her. He was young yet he carried a dangerous air. One that made her want to flee. The fact he carried food in her jaws kept her there despite her intense, growing need to flee. There was a good chance she wouldn't find any food for a while if she left now.

"Dangerous place?" She echoed quietly. Could this be the lands that the other red cub had warned her about? Perhaps it would be best if she left....but something kept her there.

He's just a cub, if not a little older, he can do any harm.... She tried to convince herself. Surely he wouldn't mind sharing...right?

The bone dropped from his jaws, resting deliberately at his paws, as if placed as bait, a deadly dare. A subtle flick of a paw as he stepped forward, seeming to move away from the treasure, though something in his eyes stated otherwise.

"You are in the land of the Blood, most of whom would have surely destroyed you by now, fools that they are."

A smirk spread across his maw, an odd look in his eyes. Intriguing how the desperate become foolish, easily deceived by their own feeble thoughts. Underestimating the young firekin was a deadly mistake, and what he would share she would find she did not want.

"Destroy me?" She asked almost incredulously. She had done no wrongs so why would someone want to destroy her? It made no sense to the adol because, of course, she didn't know the true nature of the firekin. If she did then she wouldn't have stayed were she was, inching ever closer to the dropped bone.

Tama wasn't a complete fool, she knew there was something odd about the juvenile before her, but hunger was getting the better of her and making her make decisions that she wouldn't have if she had been thinking straight. She hated the fact that she submitting herself to petty begging and hoping that she'd receive some kind of help from someone. Most of all she hated the fact she had become weak, back before being run off into the desert she had been the strong one and now here she was trying to 'steal' food from this young lion.

Still the meat on the bone was so alluring that it was pulling her in. Hunger did that to a lion, it messed with their better judgment. And now it was messing with Tama's better judgment, calling pulling her towards it.

"Yes, how fortunate for you that I am not so foolish as my kin."

Or perhaps not. It may have been more merciful to simply attack outright, to show the creature where she stood rather than allowing false hope that could only be seen by such desperation. However if there was one firekin inclined to show mercy, it was not Hiasi'ikusa, however he knew well how to use the appearance of such to his advantage.

He watched her, that cold, calculating smirk on his maw, eyes narrowed. What would she do? Would she take the bait and fall into his trap, or would she realize the danger and flee?

Tama wasn't one that was easily scared but she was worried. Very worried in fact by the young lion's behavior. Something wasn't right and she knew it. As for what wasn't right...she wasn't sure. Maybe it would be better to just turn and walk away, but the meat upon the bone prevented her from doing so.

Stupidly she stepped towards the bone, going for the bait. She would regret the choice she made but for now there wasn't any turning back.

(( bear in mind I don't mean for his attack to work how he intends (that would be uncool), this is just how -he- thinks it should work ))

It happened in a flash, talons unsheathed, the assassin struck, reaching for the exposed underside of her neck in a lethal strike. He had made no sound, no growl, no warning but for the swift movement of his paws, the exposing of fangs in young jaws.

Though the lioness had been weakened, she still had the advantage of size; the warrior knew better than to take any advantage for granted. His strike had been surgical, aimed to disable his prey as swiftly as possible, there was no fighting back if one's throat was slit.

The lioness would now learn an important lesson, that no scrap of food was worth facing an assassin for. That is, if she lived long enough.

Barely, just barely out of the corner of her eyes she saw his movement and jerked back as quickly as possible. She fell hard onto her back but not before his claws came into contact with her flesh. He didn't hit how he intended but one of his claws still skimmed across her neck, breaking the skin but not so deeply that it was lethal. He also caught her chin just before she hit the sand.

Scrambling to get up she looked at the small male a look of disbelief written across her expression. Did he really just attack her aiming to kill? He couldn't have! He was just a cub, barely older than that...yet he had. Gritting her teeth she swallowed, painfully, before back up shaking her head. "Bloody hell." she mumbled under her breath keeping her eyes on the red male.

There was really only two options for the green striped female, fight or run. The first was completely out of the question, she didn't care if he tried to kill her, she wasn't going to risk seriously harming the other because of his young age and her size advantage. Sure she was weak at this given point in time but she was still strong, some what and she didn't want to have to hurt anyone unless she had to.

Clenching down on her teeth she backed up slowly, her body now on high alert from his previous attack. "Keep your damned meat." she hissed instantly regretting it because of the pain it brought on. Why hadn't she realized the danger before? How could she have been so stupid?

Eyes narrowed, maw parted to bare fangs, not in aggression or anger, but in cold, uninhibited intent. Red eyes as cold as the 8th plane, the terrifying gaze of an assassin incapable of remorse or regret. Strides low and deliberate, talons raking the earth with each step, he circled his 'prey'.

"You are a fool to have ever thought it was yours to take. Why should I feel more for you than I would for the sand or a stone beneath my paws?"

If he had been expected to feel remorse or even anger, it was in vain, for the young firekin was incapable of such emotion. His strike had failed, but only because he had not been fast enough, he had given her the chance to escape. Had he not done so, the blow surely would have been fatal, the blood that now dripped to the desert sand was proof of that. A smirk spread across his maw, there was potential there, his mother would be pleased.
