Kimiko trudged over the hills and rocks of the grasslands. ears down and tail almost dragging. It had been a couple weeks since she'd left her only daughter wth one of her five litter sisters, and she felt the tear at her heart almost emediately. Despite her efforts to not attach, she'd become attached in the short two weeks she'd had her with her. The lioness sighed and crested a ridge, feeling worn out.
A breeze tugged at her fur, pulling it out of her face. She paused, looking about. In the distance, she saw Pride Rock, and felt a pang. Toshiro was somewhere there... And Shin... But she worried more about the silver-maned piebald than his abused son. She flattened her ears back a bit, looking away before descending towards the river. Something drew her that way - A waft of a scent, maybe..? It was familiar, and suddenly... Comforting.

Vinya'nyota was too busy admiring her own reflection to notice the approaching lioness. It had been a while since she had gazed upon a river as clear as this one, and she always delighted in seeing her delicate white features and her decorated eyes. It wasn't until the sound of footsteps reached her ears that she realised she was not alone. Frowning, she lifted her head, her lilac eyes scanning the surrounding area.
When they finally fell on the nearby lioness, Vinya'nyota let out a short, sharp gasp. It was one of her sisters, Kimiko to be exact. Her frown deepened considerably as she wondered whether or not she should just walk away. Zagaa was the only one of her sisters she had any respect for, the rest were simply 'there'. They may as well have been strangers.

The gold-eyed lioness went over, nodding to her sister. "Vinya..." Her tail flicked just a bit, curling back and forth. What did she say, to a sister she'd ignored so much? Ignored simply because she had pink markings, not black... She looked away, down the river's course, then back at Vinya'nyota. "I'm sorry... For... Ignoring you... I haven't treated you like a sister... I should have..." She sat down, slumping just a bit.

"That's Vinya'nyota to you." She hissed, deciding to stick around in the hopes of teaching her sister a lesson. All of her sisters except for Zagaa had been pretty damn ignorant towards her, but then, Vinya'nyota had never actually cared. It hurt her feelings a little when she was a cub, but as she got older, she decided that her sisters just weren't worth her time.
"You're sorry?" Vinya'nyota sneered, wondering if Kimiko really thought it was going to be that easy. "That place was a complete and utter nightmare. We could've made it easier for each other, but no...you and the others only cared about yourselves!" The markings around her eyes wrinkled as she snarled, getting increasingly angry. "If Zagaa hadn't of been looking out for me, I'd probably be dead now!"

She flinched a bit, not entirely expecting such a reaction. But it was understandable. She HAD ignored her sister, only looking out for herself. She hung her head, ears down and back. "I can't tell you enough how sorry I am... I can understand if you don't have it in you to forgive me." She looked back, eyes filled with sorry and grief. "If I had a second chance, I'd take back all I've done and look out for you, and our other sisters. I'd treat you like a sister should." But she couldn't. What was done, was done, and there was no taking it back.

The truth of the matter was that, although Vinya'nyota had been deeply hurt by her sisters, she simply wasn't that bitter anymore. Once she had got over the anger that swept over her at the sight of Kimiko, there wasn't actually any hatred left behind. And even if there had of been, it would've been the fault of all her sisters except Zagaa. The fact was that she couldn't take it all out on Kimiko even if she wanted to.
With a heavy sigh, she shook her head. "Whatever." She murmered. "I'm a little bit more grown up now, and I'm not one for holding grudges." Saying that, she looked at her sister. "I forgive you." She frowned. "But I won't forget."

Relief washed over the monochromatic sister. Her whole frame seemed to relax greatly, as if a great burden had been lifted. "Thank you..." She looked up to her sister, eyes shining for the first time in what felt like... Forever. "I don't... I don't expect you to forget... But forgiveness is enough..." She closed her eyes, as if the world would be brighter when she opened them again. It wasn't, of course, any brighter, but it was just a tad happier.

Hm, now then, where would they go from here? In the awkward silence that followed Kimiko's heart-felt words, Vinya'nyota thought how best to proceed. There wouldn't be much point in just leaving now, after a bridge was starting to be built. "So...umm...what are you doing out here anyway?" In some small way, she was glad to see that at least another one of her sisters had left the Oasis. It was a terrible place, and she wouldn't wish for any of her sisters to still be there.

What WAS she doing out here...? Kimiko stared down at her paws, trying to figure this out. After a moment, she looked back at her sister. "I guess... I'm running from my past... I'm running from what I've done..." Abandoning her only offspring... Treating others below her... She'd done such wrong in her mind, would she ever forgive herself?

"Seriously? What did you do?" Vinya'nyota raised a brow, curious to know what her sister had done that was so terrible. Apart from how she had treated her back when they were young.
She could tell that Kimiko was in serious turmoil, so if she didn't reveal what had happened, she wouldn't pry any further. The white lioness shifted awkwardly, still unhappy about this meeting. She was all ready to start a new life for herself in a new Pride, and she didn't want the past digging up.

Staring at her paws, Kimiko trembled. "I..." She didn't know if she could bring herself to say it. But then, if she didn't, she'd never live it down. "I... Abandoned... A cub..." She held up a paw, staring at it. "It was so... Small... But I wanted her to have a better life... A good life... With a real pride..." She broke down, then, laying down to sob on her paws. Her one cub, her only cub, no longer there. Was she doing alright without her there? She didn't look at her sister, not wanting to see whatever look of disgust she figured Vinya might have.

Vinya'nyota just stood and stared, simply trying to get her head around what she had just heard. It was a terrible thing to abandon a cub, but at the same time, she could tell that Kimiko was truely devestated by it. And if she really had done it so that the cub would have a better life, who was she to blame her?
"I...I'm sorry." She sighed softly, before moving towards her sister and nuzzling her gently. "I'm sorry that you had to go through that all by yourself. It must've been very hard." Vinya'nyota almost felt bad now about having a go at her sister, considering what she had been through. She wouldn't have wished such a bad experience upon any of her sisters.

Her ears shifted slightly, slowly. Did she hear her sister right...? Slowly, she looked at Vinya, eyes slightly blurry from crying. She swallowed, nodding. Turning slightly, she nuzzled her sister back. "I left her with one of our sisters... With Chau..." She hoped to the gods above that her cub had a good life with Chau.
Slowly, Kimiko got up. "I should go..." She looked at Vinya, smiling tiredly. "My life hasn't found a stopping point yet... I need to keep moving... Find my place..." She nuzzled at her sister, her self-proclaimed twin. "I hope you find yours, too, if you didn't find it yet, Vinya... My sister..."

Ah, their sister Chau. At least Kimiko had that small bit of comfort in knowing that her cub was left with its aunt. In a way, that meant that the cub wasn't really abandoned, which was good news.
When her sister moved to leave, Vinya'nyota almost went to stop her, but decided against it. Her heart was heavy with what had passed between herself and Kimiko, and she felt as though she needed a rest now. "Please take care of yourself, Sister." With that, she turned and started walking in the opposite direction. She wondered if she would ever see Kimiko again after today. In her heart of hearts, she hoped she would.
(( Finished! ))
