How many people here go to church dances? YSA or youth?

I just got back from a YSA dance, and I was sorely disappointed at the quality of music. Almost ALL the songs(Except maybe 5?) were rap. I don't know why the DJ even has most of the songs that he did on his list for a CHURCH dance. I don't know how many other places have things like that... but every dance I've been to since not being allowed to go to youth dances has been terrible in the music department, and even most of the youth dances were bad(I had only been to a few when I was able to go to youth dances).

I don't know about you all, but I'm a bit frustrated that they would play songs in a Church building that a lot of people wouldn't listen to in their homes.

Well I only went to a couple, only because someone wanted me to go, but I don't like dances very much. Partly because I can't dance, and partly because very few people would want to dance with me.

But as for the music, it was fine. But it seemed a tradition to play the chicken dance at least twice at each youth dance. >.<

I found that at the Youth dances the music was definatly iffy. Usually the YSA dances are better but there's usually one or two songs which are questionable. Any YSA dance that I've gone to has a good variety of music.

The last dance I went to had an okay variation of music. I still didn't like it. But I'm picky about my music anyway.

I think we just need a new DJ in our area. I don't mind if there is a variety of music, but if the majority of the songs are rap, I don't even want to be in the same vicinity, much less dancing to it.

yeah, our music is iffy too...it must be a dance theme...and it's always blaring!!! like when you're dancing with someone you can't hear them unless you yell to each other! i have enough problems being short and dancing with tall men already...

Let your YW/YM leader know how disappointed you were with the music - if you don't it won't get changed!

That's the problem, we're the ones that are usually in charge of things. I have no clue who picks the DJ, or who picks the music, and I don't go to dances all that often(for obvious reasons...)

The issue with YSA dances is that they can be organized by anyone, really. It may have even been that DJ that organized it. The way that my region does it is through Facebook razz . That way, we know the person that organized it, who the DJ is, where it is, and frequently, no extra cost to us.

I'm at BYU-I and my roomie and I have started going swing dancing every Wednesday night. It's way fun, except all the music is obviously swing-able, so the lack of variety gets kind of tedious, but it's tons better than country dancing, in my opinion.

This last Wednesday was pretty funny because this guy who was a really good dancer just walked past meand grabbed my hand without asking, asked me if I had learned the basic Lindy Hop that night, and then proceeded to lead me around like I've never been led before! Whew! I was talking to my roomie and he cut me off mid-sentence! Hahaha.

I love it. It's an amazing way to meet people, and it was tons of fun to learn how to dance with a partner for a change. Although it's so much different actually dancing with a guy to music than during instruction. I forget all the moves!!! redface

Interesting note: It was Concrete Angels aptitude in dance that first attracted me to her. And now, we are getting married razz . I don't know if that helps or makes things worse.
