Ok, every year since about the 8th grade, me and my good friend Aahz set up my front yard to be a haunted yard. Then, on Halloween night, we set up random scare tactics and proceed to scare the LIVING s**t out of trick-or-treaters. Soon to come is the list of what we did from year to year. then I'll post what we're doing this year, and other people can post what they've done.

Year 1: 8th grade
The year that started it all. (I think)

This year was okay for a first start. Me and Aahz were like, "Hey, lets scare other trick-or-treaters instead of just getting candy this year." And trust me, folks, it's a lot more fun. Less cavities, too. Unless your victims freak out. (more on that later.) So, this year's features really started with a little skeleton on a string that "flew" down to the porch. I was planning on scaring trick-or-treaters when they were walking back from getting candy. Well, it didn't work. It was slow, and not scary even then. I got people standing there, watching it. Then they turned around and said, "cute!" and walked away.
But we got them later. Hidden in the trees was my mom's car. When they continued walking, I turned on the lights and honked the horn. oh, man, this works GREAT!!! Lotsa people screamed.

For decoration, we had our usual-plastic bones from Pic-N-Save, plus some REALLY old plastic gravestones from god-knows-where. We also, of course, had that old Goosebumps Halloween Scary Sounds CD, a quite nice track with screams and bubbling and roars and creepy music. This is a classic and it's all I listen to for the whole month of October. Every year this is the CD that gets me in the scaryness mood.

We also had Aahz, creeping around in his famous Reaper outfit, creeping the kiddies out. *sniff* good times....

Year 2: 9th grade

oh yeah, this was fun. My brother helped us out, and he also brought his gilly suits for us to play with. Those are camoflauge suits, the military-sniper grade stuff. We just clamped onto a tree or laid down on the ground and nobody saw us. Ever. Although, we usually couldn't see anybody else, either. But we scared the beejeesus out of everybody!!! w00t! Yeah, some jerk started prodding me with his foot, and I thought it was my brother so I didn't do anything. Yeah, and then I jumped out at some costumed victim and she started attacking me with her plastic sword or fairy's wand or somehting. aahh!!! can't defend yourself when you can't see. That was fun though.
Also, we found some huge-a** chest, and we would pop up behind it while banging on it and we got some screams from that, too.

Year 3: 10th grade.

This year, we didn't work at my house, we went with a theatre group of mine and rented out a storefront, and scared people for two weeks. It was definetly a bigger crowd, and we had lots more props and people, but it wasn't our own thing. But that was pretty fun. One night I had a really awesome getup going, and I stalked people out of the house and even down the street. One chick I was following her car to the gas station, and she freaked out. I worked in the mad scientists' lab a lot. We broke a lot in there. I still remember when I broke the light over Eor'es head. Yeah, that was good.

OMG: This year we went all out. We had more features than any other year and we planned this longer than any other year. I'm gonna have to wait to write this all out later.

yeah, tenth grade was different but it wasnt us. i remember them trying to stuff me in a bloody prom dress, (for those of youse who dont know me, im on the larger side, some would politely say "big boned" others less politely call a "knuckle-dragging-monster". know picture that in a prom dress about twelve sizes too small.) needless to say, i couldnt breathe properly. when i expressed my discomfort, i was told not to whine. so, i flexed my chest and back, and proceeded to rip out the entire back of the dress.

well, like ive said before. im going for a acid scarred pennywise clown look. when you figure out what your going to be, we can start designing what were going to do to your house. i say we do the hanging man again, but we need to refine the drop, and get stronger filament.

I'd love to go as Joshua.

But if I can't, considering making that thing is near impossible, I don't know yet.

Instead of the hanging man, why don't we hang you? I'm serious. I thought of the mechanism a couple of years ago- The rope goes down and hooks to a harness for you, and the rope around your neck isn't attached to anything. All we need for that is a harness and a way of making the gallows very strong.

I have two animatronic ideas for this year's halloween. I'm working on the technology now, and I hope it'll be ready for this year's halloween. If it works, I can make a jaw that moves when it talks, like the skeletons at the AoD ride at Knott's Scary Farm.
We can either use it for a skull, a mask, or (if we can make the skin) a disembodied head!!! Which would be cool!

The other idea is a moving arm which makes it look like somebody's trying to climb out of the dirt. This isn't too impressive, but its an idea.

first and foremost, when did they make an army of darkness ride at knotts. then, if we did hang me, which is actually something i considered doing, we would need to hang me from a strong branch on the tree in your yard, and im pretty sure they already make harnesses like that, but we need to test it first, ive heard too many stories about things going wrong in these types of stunts.

Hey, I was thinking maybe since aahz already knows he wants to be a scary clown maybe you could do a carnival/circus theme? Those are always scary. x_O

It probably isn't my place to say being a tradition between the two of you, just thought it sounded pretty neat. You can just disreguard this if you want. sweatdrop It a really neat idea, though.. I wish I would have had a friend to plan something like that with. ^_^
