Soul: Leafy Sea Dragon
Description:
Sea dragons are some of the most ornately camouflaged creatures on the planet. Adorned with gossamer, leaf-shaped appendages over their entire bodies, they are perfectly outfitted to blend in with the seaweed and kelp formations they live amongst. Sea dragons have very long, thin snouts; slender trunks covered in bony rings; and thin tails which, unlike their seahorse cousins, cannot be used for gripping. They have small, transparent dorsal and pectoral fins that propel and steer them awkwardly through the water, but they seem quite content to tumble and drift in the current like seaweed. Endemic to the waters off south and east Australia, leafies are generally brown to yellow in body color with spectacular olive-tinted appendages.
As with sea horses, sea dragon males are responsible for childbearing. But instead of a pouch, like sea horses have, male sea dragons have a spongy brood patch on the underside of the tail where females deposit their bright-pink eggs during mating. The eggs are fertilized during the transfer from the female to the male. The males incubate the eggs and carry them to term, releasing miniature sea dragons into the water after about four to six weeks. Sea dragons survive on tiny crustaceans such as mysids, or sea lice. It is not known if they are preyed upon by other animals. They are, however, frequently taken by divers seeking to keep them as pets.

Why the Leafy?
Appearance - I choose the leafy sea dragon on its appearance first. I find them so unique and rather cute that I just couldn't get the idea of a sea dragon Raevan out of my head. The many fins and dorsal, its shape and size, how unassuming it is and yet they are comfortable being swept about. They just seem so different to me.
Humble - My other reasons is for how unassuming the leafy can be in the Lab community. With all the strong, powerful and frightening souls that most have used I thought it was time for a docile soul. A soul that was humble and laid back, the leafy struck me as a gypsy soul, they lay about allowing their element to push and pull them but no matter what they don't' seem bothered by this. Leafy also have a face that seems pretty lazy and aloof, not necessarily uncaring but definitely no hyper tension; they are in control of their element.
Element - Choosing the leafy based on the element for my fel essence was another idea I had to take into consideration. It wouldn't do to have a powerful essence mixed with a powerful soul. And it wouldn't do to have a water based essence mixed with a contradicting soul either. I do understand that in the real deep blue a leafy wouldn't stand a chance, but considering this is a mix of essence and soul, I thought the two would contrast nicely as well as mesh well. Eternal Deep can have some powerful attributes whereas having a leafy soul it balances out that power limiting it only to the abilities of the soul.
Curiosity - I also chose the leafy for the curious factor. Kyou's work is simply gorgeous and I'd love to see her take on what a gypsy Leafy would look like in her shop. I'm sure it would be gorgeous either way but I'm dead set on keeping this single concept. I does limit my options but I've been stalking for some time now maybe someday my dream will come true. Here's hoping...

Fluid pressure - When feeding he can drain pressure that may become a hazard if left unattended. He cannot control this ability but if asked to feed it can be useful; hopefully he's hungry during a time when this ability is needed.
Water mimicking - This will allow him to transfer the three major attributes of his essence into any body of water he comes in contact with. This makes him very weak and he cannot sustain it for too long.

NAME : Thanatos Alexander Wolverick "Xan"
GENDER : Male
AGE : 30
OCCUPATION : Freelance pianist and music instructor; works odd jobs in Aekea.
RACE : Human
LIKES : Chocolate, peach tea, cooking, reading, classic music and smooth jazz.
DISLIKES : Brutality and violence toward others, gossip and clutter.
LOOKS : He stands 6 feet 6 inches tall, has a lean athletic build and broad shoulders with lightly tanned skin. He has mint Persian green eyes and platinum hair worn long to mid-back. His style of dress is country meets jazzy. A white Stetson as his signature accessory, he wears checkered dress shirts, often with the sleeve rolled up, a suit vest with tie and matching slacks with boots or dress shoes. He can often be found with a bit of stubble under his chin and has a base scent of hickory, mixed with chocolate and a hint of peach.
PERSONALITY : Xan is a shy gentleman cowboy, polite and cajolery to those he meets. He has the typical mannerisms most country boys exude but they are not carved in stone. He has a bit of nervous tension when meeting folks but easily warms the hearts of those around him with his country charm, lazy drawl and host-like presence. Xan is an unassuming man who expects little but gives a lot in return. Hard working, easy-going, a bit shy though private about personal affairs; he likes to play a supporting role but is just as comfortable in the background. He is a content man who needs little to keep him happy; so long as he has the bare necessities everything else is moot.
HISTORY : Thanatos grew up with his mother until a business savvy man claiming to be his father showed up at his doorstep. With encouragement from his mother he would later move home with his father. While he always resented his father for invading his simple life with his mother, he couldn't be too upset after holding his baby sister for the first time. Instantly he had fallen in love; growing a sister complex that would make it hard for him to go abroad for international studies and refinement for his father's business.
His studies abroad were well spent as Thanatos returned home a little worldly versed and no less resentful for his father's wild schemes. Despite this he took over his father's business waiting patiently for an opportunity to make a steal and sold his shares of the business. With this money he has moved away from home to pursue his own way in life; taking up odd jobs as a Host, some random industrial jobs in Aekea and freelance work playing his beloved piano. With money from his shares he purchased a ranch style home and land which houses beautiful horses and lush grounds.
Fun Facts
Chocolate - Xan has a tendency to act drunken and lecherous when consuming too much chocolate. He'll eventually pass out when he's had his fill but won't remember too much the day prior; claiming he was hot with fever.

About the Player
My Gaia name is Kuuro Kitten, I've been a member since October 2003. I've come a long way since then, my stomping grounds started in Barton Town and Gaia Commerce to where it moved on to the B/C forums where I now reside constantly. I like role play and continue to better my skills in writing, grammar, speech and storytelling.
I am the element of water the sign of cancer and born under the seventh moon on the sixteenth day, nineteen centuries and eighty years ago. <3
I currently reside in the "land of the rising sun" serving my fellow countrymen in the US Navy.
Role play for me is therapeutic and it is required as a daily dose of my vitamin intake. XD Actually its something that helps to vent my angers and concerns throughout the day. I don't bring my RL issues online they can't get solved that way but I do use those issues and experiences to better tell a story through my characters. As far as relationships they come on a regular basis, planning is not an option, I don't like it. If your character genuinely likes mine great but don't expect my chars to feel the same right away or at all. I won't force relationships on you as I hope you won't on me.

Financial Plans [ Arachnophobia ] [.01] How much do these cost?They're usually 30k for RP events/contests. Price varies if it's a custom or semi-custom order. The lowest price that I would accept at the moment for semi-customs are at least TWO Angelic Minis. [.02] Why is the price difference so huge?Because RP event's purpose is to gather good role players as owners, and not a lot of them are very rich. While Customs and auctions are targeted to a different group of people. [.03] What are semi-customs?Semi-customs are simpler versions of full customs. Instead of the all out full custom form, people that ordered semi-customs can only choose the fel essence, soul, gender and alignment for their Raevan. The other aspects of the Raevan's design will be decided by Kyou. [.04] Are they the same price as full customs?No, they are generally cheaper. Probably half the price of full customs. In light of this I will never be able to acquire a Raevan through Gaia means. Therefore, I am making a formal bribe through RL commission means.
For a semi-custom: $100 USD or more
For a full-custom: $200 USD or more
*NOTE: I will attend Flatsales and auctions when available, this is a quest for a semi-custom of my choosing, if all else fails then the conventional means are my last resort. ^^

Q. Why did you choose Thanatos as your guardian for the Raevan?
Xan is the most versatile of all my OCs, the easiest to convert to different plots, settings and ideas. He is the oldest of my OCs; created back in 2003.
Note: With the new updates he fits in line with not being "too extreme" for the Lab community. Besides he's fun to play and I'm sure once he's warmed up to the place everyone will learn to love his easy going nature.
Update 10/24/08: As per the Equinox of Gods contest, Xan's profile passed the first round as judged by Kyou, Storei and Mouse. This is as good as an official stamp of approval to me! ^^
Q. Xan seems a bit too ordinary, don't you?
There's nothing wrong with ordinary when you got half bodied creatures floating around. Besides, he's more likely to find the Raevan's to be interesting and/or scary if he's not used to such things. Which he is not. Xan is new to Gaia so everything he encounters he does so for the first time.... I'm sure it will be fun to watch him raise his very own Raevan.
Q. How's a cowboy going to catch a soul?
The same way a sphinx, eagle, or unicorn were found for souls of respective Raevan. By using my imagination and so long as it is believable by Kyou's standards then I don't find it too hard to acquire a soul. Especially from a sea dragon which is rather small by comparison so it shouldn't be too hard. Besides he's a cowboy he should know how to round up some kind of cattle...er.. soul.
Q. Your soul is weak in comparison to all the stronger Raevan souls, why use such weak souls?
Personally for THAT reason is why I wanted souls that aren't very strong at all. There are plenty of strong willed-souls in the Lab community why not focus on some souls with more personality then strength? Another reason is that over time I realized the fel essences used are quite powerful on their own. Eternal Deep alone has two distinct attributes, massive pressure and chilling temperatures. So having a weak soul to contrast the strong essence makes sense (to me at least). Besides the underdog character needs love too.
Q. I don't like your concept!
Well you're entitled to your own opinion but if you gave some constructive criticism it might help flesh out my ideas. Maybe point out the areas that need work and I'll improve on that if I see fit. Otherwise; your opinion falls on deaf ears.
Q. You can't use that soul, someone else is questing for it!
I take extra care to make certain I am using a soul not already in existence with the Lab community as well as one being quested. However if it is merely another person questing then I see no problem with us both doing as we are, until one of us actually completes our quest there should be no harm. I am more than willing to switch my soul concept should such a thing happen, until then, its fair game for all.
Q. Eternal deep is pretty interesting but why not focus on your other ideas?
I like the current concept. If any ideas come to mind on the dropped ideas I have then I'll bring them back to life. Until then they are fair game.

If someone was interested in questing for it I wouldn't mind handing it over to them. Just so long as they get my permission and leave credit, then they can do with it as they please. I'd love to see what would become of it.

Not at all. Once the fel essences becomes their own then they can mold it how they wish so long as credit for the general idea was given. Besides if another soul gives the essence a kick-a** appeal then by all means use something more spiffy!
