He was fully grown with the build of an athelete. In fact, looking at him, there was little next to nothing of Amari in him. He had inherited his mother's sleek build, her golden fur and her beautiful, sky blue eyes.

Look a little closer, though, and you could see that truly, Chunuka was definately Amari's son. He had his father's charming smile, his persona and on his shoulder was his onw lone marking.

The anchor that gave away his heritage.

But as his young days had been left behind him that smile had slipped a little. He found himself lonely and wondering what everyone else was up to. All his brothers and sisters seemed to have friends and lives, yet somehow he had ended up rather alone. He sighed. Maybe it was time to leave this place. He didn't want to. He loved the Pridelands more than anything but...maybe it just wasn't to be.

He lay on his back with the sun warming his belly and forepaws curled against his chest. Maybe he should go and find something to do rather than wile away the days like this... he was young and he had a life to live. Father had done more before he was a juvenile than he had done so far.

Maybe that's why he couldn't find friends. He just had no ambition!

It was a lazy day, with the sun high in the azure heavens, beaming like a ball of molten gold. A few clouds dappled the blue here and there, wisps of pale streaks that did not promise rain in the slightest. Kiasi’s pretty paws sauntered through the tall savannah grasses, their hue only slightly different from her caramel pelt, but still similar enough to hide her little form to an extent. Her pretty blue eyes lingered on her feet as she walked, lost in thought and staring idly at the blades she crushed beneath her smaller than average paws.

Her days before Kubwa had been idle, filled with nothing, but certainly not unpleasing. The apple of her father’s eyes, the only daughter in a horde of males, and she was spoiled beyond reason. She was never the tom boy, despite what growing up with so many brothers would normally do to a girl. No, she was a princess in every right of the word, even if she lacked it in title. She detested dirt and filth, she hated rough housing and often scorned blabbering fools. Of course, she was only sugar and sweetness when around her daddy, but isn’t that what a proper daddy’s girl is?

Now, of course, she found herself wandering with itchy paws, always on the lookout for a glimmer of white that might tell her where Kubwa was. The lion had her head in a whirl, and not having control over her own thoughts made her almost as irritated as not being able to find him. Of course, she could always go to his den, she was sure someone around the pride knew of it, but then she’d have to meet his cub (she still hated those little things) and his crazy mother. Well, at least she assumed she was crazy from what Kubwa had told her of the lioness.

It was with surprise that she glanced up and spied the bright yellow form of her brother Chunuka. She had nearly gotten right on top of him without noticing, so lost in her own disorderly thoughts. However, it seemed to her that talking to her brother would be just the thing to get the white male out of her thoughts, and she meandered over with a little smirk on her maw.

“Chunuka, what are you doing laying around?” she smirked softly as she pushed a little paw at his head, a playful little prod.

He didn't look up, not even when his sister approached, though his smile returned at her voice. So he wasn't forgotten after all! Someone did remember his name! "I figured if I laid here long enough someone might notice me laying here and come for a chat." He laughed and rolled swiftly onto his stomach. There was no denying the cheerful glitter in his eyes at seeing her.

"What have you been up to?" He was extremely eager to hear what he had been missing out on in life. Maybe if Kiasi had some grand stories to tell it'd give him that motivation to get off his backside and do something himself. He glanced to the sky, wondering why he never got bored of watching the clouds skim by. Even those fluffy clouds saw more of life than he did and as far as he knew, they weren't even alive to begin with!

He snapped back to reality and stood, stretching leaisurely. His pelt danced with sunbeams and his well groomed face turned towards her. Perhaps there was a little vanity about him too.

"Using those delicate paws to chase handsome princes?" He purred, giving her a suggestive nudge on the shoulder with his paw. "Dad will be upset when his daughter becomes betrothed, losing his one and only." There was ever a teasing note in his tone. It seemed to Chunuka that if he was a flirt and father was a flirt than all his other siblings had to be too.

Yes...he really did need to get out more.

Kiasi chuckled as she saw the instant turn around in her brother’s mood. Before he had simply seemed lazy and bored, but now there was a definite glimmer in his eyes that spoke only of Chunuka. She couldn’t help but smile at the sight of it, shaking her head gently as he rolled over to greet her. He really was a silly thing. Regardless, Kiasi adored her family more than anything in the world, and Chunuka was a gentle heart that always gave her a bit of mirth when she needed it. She certainly did need some now.

“I’m sorry to say that I really haven’t been up to a whole lot,” she offered with a shrug, his deep blue eyes drifting off towards the horizon. “I walked through mud, though, if that constitutes an adventure,” although it was said with a bit of amusement, her face scrunched up in distaste. Anyone that was even vaguely familiar with lioness knew her opinion of dirt and mud. She hated getting dirty and she hated doing anything that would even remotely relate to dirt. Walking through mud had certainly been one of her least favorite things to do, and it was a morbid adventure as far as she was concerned.

At his mention of males, she smiled weakly, her eyes shifting downward in a meek way that was definitely not a part of her usual persona. “He’s not a prince,” she said quietly, but it did feel good to finally be able to talk about it with someone other than the moody lioness she had recently befriended. She laughed softly and brought her gaze back up to meet that of her brother’s, which resembled her own quite a bit. “And there’s no chase about it, really.”

She was never quite the flirt that Chunuka and her father were, but she knew how to make a lion shift uneasily with just the right words. She was good at manipulation, and in some ways, it could be considered a form of flirting, especially when used properly.

He sat then, curling his tufted tail up across his paws. He watched it twitch for a moment, almost as if it had a life of it's own and he were contemplating pouncing it. Eventually he looked up and just in time to hear her response.

Not been up to a whole lot? Well that wasn't very motivating, though it did make him feel a little more comfortable about his own lack of life right now. Then she continued and he couldn't hold back a laugh. He was vain but not so vain that he'd walk around a mud hole just to keep his paws clean. No, fur could always be washed and atleast it gave him something to concentrate on that might differ from cloud spotting.

"Wow, sis, I bet that was a real tough challenge, espeically for a little princess like you." He was teasing again, apparently that was the only way he knew how to communicate.

However, the smirk was wiped from his face as Kiasi admitted that there was someone. Was she joking!? He swallowed back a lump of disbelief in his throat and shook his head slowly from side to side. He tried to digest the information but it seemed to take a while to sink in. When it finally did he put on another, weaker smile. It was a little bit of jealousy seeping into his heart.

"Who is he? Are you going to bring him back to meet the family so we can pass judgement?" He'd be damned if he'd let any ol' make take his only sis away. He briefly wondered what father would think. "He is a pridelander, right? You can't trust rogues." That was what mother had always said, though the words had been joking and said in sheer jest of her love for Amari - who had been a rogue before they had met so long ago. But Chunuka wasn't using it in that context, he was genuinely concerned that some rogue might be trying to manipulate his sister. As far as he was concerned, Kiasi was a precious flower who needed to be protecting.

She smirked as she sat down next to him, curling her tail around her own paws in imitation of his, though hers merely swung idly back and forth without her putting too much attention onto it. With a little purr, she leaned her body over so that her shoulder was rested against his own which made a rather cute little brother-sister pose. She leaned there like that while he examined his tail, waiting for him to say something to her.

“It was torture,” she said, adding a rather dramatic sigh just for effect. “I had to go through it to get to a zebra on the other side,” she shook her head in a moment of disgust, remembering the feeling of the deep goop sucking at her paws. It had taken her ages to get the mud off entirely, and she still cringed to remember the entire escapade.

She was vaguely amused as his attitude suddenly changed from teasing, gentle older brother to the more territorial dominant older brother. It felt good to have someone act so protective over her, but she couldn’t say that she’d really want him to do much harm to Kubwa. After all, Kub was such a sweet thing, and he was having a lot of his own problems at the moment.

“His name is Kubwa,” she said with a small smile, batting at his tail with her little paw, “and of course he’s a Pridelander, Chunuka. Do you really think I would just talk to any old rogue that wandered in?” No offense to her father, of course, but most rogues were scruffy ill-mannered things. She didn’t put up with that sort of an attitude for very long. “And I don’t know if I’ll be bringing him home or not. Right now, I’m not even sure what we have between us.” She shrugged it off, sighing softly. It was the truth though. Even if he had her emotions in a whirl and blushed and stuttered every time he was near her, it didn’t mean anything. “And he’s got a lot of family trouble right now, I don’t want to pressure him.”

Well, that was certainly something a little unlike Kiasi. She typically didn’t care about others and what their problems were and she seemed to be typically only concerned with her own wants and needs. It was a good change in personality for her, at least.

"And did you get the zebra in the end?" He asked. "If so, atleast your effort wasn't in vain." His sister was changing, he realised. She was maturing with age, becoming a proper lioness. This was something he had yet to do. Mature? How did one go about maturing? Was he just not ready to grow up yet? He didn't know...maybe it'd happen the less he tried to do it. Maybe one day he'd just wake up and feel like being more responsible for a change.

Chunuka was really a gentle soul. He'd never unleash his claws unless there was a good reason to. The thought of hurting others just wasn't programmed into his brain, another trait from his mother's side. It took a lot to get him riled and thinking back on it, Chunuka could never remember actually getting angry at anyone before. Not really.

"Kubwa? I don't know him." Well that wasn't a surprise. He didn't know anyone here, not really. Everyone was just a passing face. He wanted a best friend, a true friend. Would he even find one here? He glanced at Kiasi, did a sister count as a friend? Probably not.

He laughed again, though the sound wasn't as genuine as it had been before. "That's good sis." He purred. "It's much safer to stay in the Pride, besides, atleast that way they are bound to have good manners." He wrinkled his nose at the rest of her sentence and shook his head mildly. "Sounds complicated. Are you sure he's worth all of this?" Stupid question really, but Chunuka had yet to learn that you don't choose the one you love. Cupid's arrow cannot be stopped.

"Do you think I'll ever find a girl, sis?" He pondered. "Am I too...um...me?" He gave her a weak grin. "I don't seem to fit in around here, atleast not with anyone I've met."
PostPosted: Sun Sep 30, 2007 11:52 am

“I did, actually,” she said with a weak smile as she thought back to that day. “It was very good, actually, and nice of Kubwa to share it with me.” She laughed softly and glanced down at her dainty toes, wiggling them softly in the beaten down grass beneath her form. “He thought it was funny, making me walk through that goop, but I suppose it really was the only way to get to it.” She smirked and glanced up at him, a sparkle in her eyes, “I took a long bath as soon as I was done with it, though.” Well, some things just never changed.

She smiled softly and nuzzled her head on his shoulder, listening to him speak for a little bit. Chunuka really was a gentle soul, but the sudden spark of attitude had been more than amusing in her opinion. He was too adorable, and the thought nearly made her chuckle.

“I’m sure you don’t know him, Chunuka, you probably don’t talk to many lions,” she said with a teasing grin, deep blue eyes gleaming as she gave him a little wink. “No, I don’t think he knows many others here, he spends a lot of time caring for his cub and his family.” She shrugged, as if it really wasn’t a big deal. How on earth was Kiasi going to deal with a cub, though? It was pretty common knowledge among the family that she heavily disliked the little things.

“He’s worth it,” she whispered softly, tail flickering beside her smaller paws, a soft smile spreading across her maw. “I never would have thought I was the type to work with someone that had issues, but I guess you can’t help it when your heart finds someone you want to be with. It’s not really.. your choice.” She shrugged, leaning more into him, comfortably, like a little sister would do of an older brother. It didn’t matter that he had probably bested her by an hour or so at the most.

“Of course you will, silly,” she said with a little quirk of her eyebrow, “a big softy like you? Oh, they’ll come fawning. You just need to put yourself out there, don’t you think? Can’t expect them to come if you don’t call.” Her eyes twinkled as she said this, her smirk even more mischievous.

He smiled. Hunting, now that was something he hadn't been very good at. Yes, with mother helping him and father trying his best too, he had brought down a kill, but as Amari was fond of saying, hunting was woman's work. That line often had Maawio snapping at him and then the laughter would ensue. But he was right, in a way. Females were built for hunting, though actually, Chunuka probably wouldn't be so bad at it if he put his mind to it. He wasn't as bulky as most males were.

"Cub and family?" Chunuka gaped. Okay so this situation was complicated. But...atleast this Kubwa hadn't hidden it? His immediate reaction was to growl warnings. This lion couldn't be trusted! He'd take other mates behind his sister's back. Hell, he already had! Then...slowly, his calmer side talked him down. Maybe this lion's previous mate had died, maybe that was why he was so down in the dumps. Yes...no need to jump to conclusions, though he couldn't stop his heart from whirring with anticipation.

He was about to question it further when she repeated that he was worth it. Kiasi wasn't stupid, she was wise, she would know if this male was a complete warthog or not. No...as much as he wanted to fo the 'protective brother' thing, he knew he couldn't...

Not yet anyway.

"Do I want to ask?" He murmured finally, smiling slightly at her last words. What female out there would be willing to put up with his teasing nature? None. Not any female with half a brain in any case.

"Lets make a deal. Once you're settled, you can play matchmaker for me, okay?"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 01, 2007 11:28 am

She smiled as she sensed his mood changing, as animals were often capable of. She could smell the anger, the sudden need to protect her, and likely a need to keep Kubwa away from her. It wasn’t as if she wanted him to confront the male, but it was nice to know that after all this time, she was still viewed as the little sister – even when she was completely grown. If that never changed, then she would be happy with it. Call her an attention hog, but she liked it when others were worried or concerned about her. That’s just how the babies of families usually were anyway.

“Well, it’s not as bad as it sounds,” she said with a little smirk, figuring that he had steamed enough and deserved to have his fears calmed. “He had the cub when he was younger, though I don’t know all the details behind it. Regarldess,” she said this with an ever growing frown, showing just how much the situation actually did upset her, “the mother’s gone. Abandoned Kubwa and the cub both, just up and left without a word.” She sighed and shook her head slowly, leaning more onto Chunuka. Well, it was obvious she cared by how she said everything, which was always a step up from before.

“Are you serious?” she said with a devilish little grin crawling onto her maw, her ears perked up slightly. She tilted her head, quirking one eyebrow at him, “you’re going to put your life in my paws like that?” Oh, the way she said it made it sound like he was perhaps making a very bad decision. Kiasi was picky, and it was likely that he’d get stuck with a mate that wasn’t too unlike her. She liked the smart, sniping lionesses best, after all.

His smile returned. She sounded like she knew what was doing, and like he had thought before, atleast this male hadn't kept it from her. Though Chunuka was sure it'd be impossible to keep a cub a secret. "Well, if you ever need someone to fight your corner, you can always count on me, Kia." And he meant it. He'd pretty much do anything for his siblings, especially his little sister. She was the baby of the family, with five protective brothers, it was pretty certain that no harm would come to her.

At her little grin, Chunuka faltered slightly. Was it wrong of him to trust her to find him a friend good enough to be a mate? Probably. But Chunuka had no idea what he was getting himself into. All he saw was the opportunity to hang out with Kiasi and make friends at the same time. What could be bad about that?

Besides, maybe it would do him good to find a female who could dominate him, put him in his place. He needed someone to tame that personality of his. "Why?" He continued slowly. "Would it be a bad decision?" He buffetted the side of his head against her shoulder. "Kia, don't get any ideas." He laughed. "I could give some specifications to keep you out of mischief."

Specifications? Was he really that picky!? No, he wasn't. But maybe for safety's sake he should throw some out there.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 02, 2007 12:09 pm

Kiasi smiled as she heard her brothers words, leaning her head against his neck to nuzzle him softly. She knew she could count on him, just like she knew she could count on her other four brothers and their father and that none of them would ever let her down. She may be grown up, but she was always everyone’s little princess, and she was sure that that would never change, no matter how old she got. “I know, Chunuka,” she said with a small smile, “I know.” Something about her brother just made her undoubtedly calm, happy, a sort of feeling that she only got around her family. It was nice to know he cared so much, nice to know that she had someone in the world to save her if she needed it – some lions, like the rogue she had met the other day, didn’t have that.

“Not a bad one,” she said rather amusedly, quirking her eyebrow at him with a small smirk lingering on her pretty face. “Although, I’m sure that I would certainly have some different tastes than you, as far as personality goes,” and with these words came a small chuckle, her tail flickering behind her now as she thought. She wouldn’t find someone to torture poor Chunuka by any means, but he might find that she’d find someone that could handle him. She’d certainly find someone to tame him down, mark her words.

“Specifications?” she said rather sadly, glancing up at him with a pout lingering on her precious little face. Although, there was still some amusement lingering in her eyes. “Oh, you will ruin my fun!”

He laughed. What could he say? He was tempted by the challenge of flirting with females that his sister liked. He reached up and patted his sister on the shoulder with a huge paw. "Okay, okay, no specifications. I can't ruin the game, now, can I?" He pondered a moment. "Just don't tell dad or the others, okay? It can be our little secret. There'd be too much pressure if everyone expected me to come trotting home with a mate." Oh dear, he really would be a dissapointment if he managed to chase all these poor females away.

"Do you have any in mind? Or will you have to go searching?" He asked, curiously. He was unsure whether he was ready to tackle this new challenge just yet. He needed a few days...or weeks, to get his mind mentally prepared for this.

Okay, what had his father said about women? Flatter them, use your charming smile. Well...Chunuka already knew he had a charming smile, he had been told so by his mother countless times, but that didn't really count. He needed to try it out! Maybe these little "blind dates" would help prepare him for when he found true love.

"I'm nervous now." He admitted finally, though he couldn't help but laugh at this strange predicament.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 04, 2007 3:01 pm

She grinned silently as she stared up at him, her blue eyes measuring her adoring older brother. Then she simply let that pretty smile fade into a smirk, tilting her head as she spoke, “I’m glad you see it my way, I really wasn’t looking forward to pouting and looking pitiful if you kept up your stubbornness.” She laughed softly and leaned against his shoulder to nuzzle him again, murmuring softly as she did so, “why in the world would I tell any of the family? I like for my accomplishments to be a surprise.” Oh, but she would think that way, wouldn’t she?

Kiasi didn’t think she would pick someone too horrible for Chunuka. Lionesses such as herself were few and far between, but if she could find someone nice and tolerable in her opinion (which was a little harder than one would think) then she figured that the lioness would be more than decent for Chunuka himself. As long as she didn’t stutter nonsense and giggle at every other word, then she didn’t see a problem. Still, she knew Chunuka would be on edge until she found someone.

“No,” she said with a wicked smile, quirking her eyebrow at him, “I don’t have anyone in mind just now. I’ll certainly have to do some looking around.” She shifted slightly, staring calmly down at her paws for a moment as if they held the most interest in the world. Then she grinned with an evil little glimmer in her eyes, “Why, are you really that impatient to start flirting?”

She smiled then, however, and leaned into him with that sisterly affection once more, a little purr on her maw as she heard his words. “Don’t be nervous Chunuka,” she said affectionately, “I’m sure any lady would love to spend a little time with you.”

"And pouting is never good, we can't have your pretty face wrinkled, can we?" He cuffed her gently and stood, shaking his thick mane. Then he turned to face her, his eyes sparkling. It was his eyes that truly made this lion. They were as deep and blue as a pristine oasis, so full of joy. It was hard to imagine this lion angry or fierce. He was kindly by nature, never bristled, never growled, never threw a bad word at anyone.

He loved and he cared and there was no room for anything else in his heart.

"So, when you find someone, you'll let me know, okay?" He had to admit he was a little excited about it. Making friendshad always been a priority he had never quite reached, but now with his sister helping, it could finally become reality.

"I'll try not to be nervous, I guess I just want to make friends, it's not nice being all alone." He yawned, stretched and glanced over his shoulder. "Anyway, I'll trust you for now." He winked. "You probably have better taste than what I do anyway." He laughed. "Oh, and before I go, remember, once youv'e sorted out all this angst, bring Kubwa round. I promise I won't pounce him or anything. I would like to know who wormed his way into my sis' heart."
