The sun could barely be seen through the heavy canopy of leaves in the middle of the forest. Some peeked through holes in the leafy green blanket that substituted for a sky, shining in the darkness. It was all very calming and perhas a little eery. The large stallion taking a stroll through the woods shuddered to think his sister may have played in such a place, where it seemed like the shadows moved in a sneaky way. Glancing around, he paused as he heard some bushes rustle. A rabbit, Mariu mused to himself, believing himself to be right. he'd rather not think of it to be something else, particularily a Kalona or Skinwalker. Glancing over his back, he stopped in step once more. It must've been a rabbit... Snorting, he tossed his mane and continued onward, trying not to disrupt the pile of leaves that made up the path. He would rather not draw attention to himself. Though black and bledning with the shadows, his teal markings stood out along with his mane.

Keeping to the shadows, Aureate let his mind wander... It was no great surprise to the winged stallion when his thoughts turned to a certain mare... A mare he had met early in his foal-hood... A mare who he considered a friend... A friend.. A friend... A FRIEND. That was all.. That's it.. He was young.. Hadn't yet had a chance to explore as far as he wanted... To fly as high as he wanted... And yet, seeing her with that other stallion had... Irked him. Ok, so he was being a little mild on the wording for that one.. It had upset him, badly.. And so he walked.. Walked through the soothing shadows of the woods, neck arched handsomly and wings tucked to his back, mane and tail flowing around him like silken banners of inky-night. What he wouldn't do for a bit of company. Her company.. Any really... He stopped, noticing a stallion stepping onto the path he had been headed towards -though his trail lead him through the thick shadows of the wood, where he often liked to be. A stallion that was faintly familiar. He followed the other silently, freezing and watching carefully when the other kept considering the shadows. Deciding it was better to just step out onto the path, he popped his head out though the low-hanging branches, white mask gleaming around deep, keen blue eyes. "Hail and well met." He offered in his deep, musical voice... Yet another legacy of his sire. "Greetings Stranger, I am Aureate. What brings you to these groves?" These were his place... And sometimes, sometimes her's too... If there was one thing to be said for Aureate, though he was demanding and didn't share well, he was fiercely loyal.. And a truer friend than most... It was just, becomming his friend that was the trial.

The shadows had moved, and Maris was quick to pause in step. His muscles tightened, his expression guarded, perhaps stressing a little anxiety. But at the sight of a dark face and a white mask, his muscles relaxed a bit, though his expression was still unreadable. The stallion, though just appearing now, had an air of familiarity around him, one that almost frightened Marius. What if it was a trick?
He took a few steps back to allow the stranger room to walk onto the path as well, eyeing him. The name seemed familiar too... But all it did was ring a very small bell in his head. "Aureate," He tried the name out for himself, but it held little to no familiarity on his tongue, "Marius is this stranger's name." He replied, glancing down the path and then back to the winged stallion. "Just taking a stroll... I have yet to visit these woods, so I thought it would not be a bad idea to take a look through. I hope I have not stumbeld into your home?"
His voice held light worry and pology, as he would be sorry if he had intruded upon another's living space.

Feeling more confident, Aureate stepped out onto the path, straightening to his full height. He was quite tall, for so young a stallion, and his great black and gold wings stretched wide were an imposing sight. He fanned his wings and then refolded them, eyeing the stallion through the silk strands of his mane. Vaguely familiar... But, the name meant little to him. "Well met then Marius." He murmured. "No, this is not my home.. Just, one of my favorite places to walk and wander... They are lovely, these woods..." Lovely, and quiet. This new stranger did not disrupt the peace of the woods, but he was an interesting addition to the Soquili who wandered here.

He saw the shifting of wings, and Marius could call back on the days where he envied those with wings. If anything, those wings looked oddly familiar... Shaking his head at the thought, he nodded to the others murmur, glancing around the woods. He enjoyed the woods, but not as much as the beach. But they were indeed pretty woods. "Ah, good choice of a walking territory. I prefer the beach, but to each his own, no?" He chuckled softly, looking back up at teh canopy before back at the stallion.
"It may be strange to say... No no, nevermind." He paused in thought, his words spoken aloud.

Aureate grinned. "I have been to the beach..." He admitted. "And it too is lovely to walk on.. But I confess, last time I was there... Things were quite chaotic..." He tilted his head at the other stallion. "What would be strange?" Why did he feel as though he had seen this stallion before?

A grin pulled at Marius's lips, and he stood taller, proud of his mental assumption. "I knew you looked familiar! From the beach, with the sea Soquili.... And... Well," he tossed his mane, becoming a bit more relaxed, "Do you happen to know my sister, Eponine? She used to hang around a foal often when we were younger." He looked over the dark stallion, trying to imagine Aureate as a foal, moe particularily as the one who used to play with Eponine.

Aureate jumped, mouth falling open for a moment, and wings flaring wide. Boy now did he feel like an Idiot! "Of Course!" He replied, grinning. "I did see you there! Boy that was something, hmm? With the Prince? And all those horses... Kelpie's and Mers... That was one of the most amazing things I'd seen in my life." He grinned slightly, tilting his head. This? This was Eponine's BROTHER? Oh.. Well... Now Aur suppossed there was no reason to be jealous of this stranger walking in these woods -woods he and Eponine had shared- or spending time with her... "Yes... Eponine have been friends since foalhood... She's... She's my best friend..." He replied in a soft, honest voice. He shifted slightly, the sun dancing on the gold of his wings and the rose marking on his haunches.

Marius took a few steps back as the other stallion jumped and flaring his wings. Was he going to attack him?! He felt his leg muscles tighten, watching Aureate carefully. Aureate's response was not expected, at least not his physical response. When he began to speak though, Marius began to relax once more. So it was only excitement... Good. He was only used to other males rearing when they were going to attack (aka, his own brother). He nodded agreeably, "Yes, that was quite something to see. Can't look at the ocean the same anymore," he chuckled lightly, shaking his head.
"Ahhh, so you're her stallion friend. I always wondered who she wandered off to play with," he mused out loud, considering the other male with guarded eyes. Hopefully he wans't looking at Eponine as anything else. though Aureate seemed nice enough, he'd rather other stallions stay away... At least till she grew up a bit. "Best friend, eh?" He repeated with a suggestive tone.

Aureate grinned. "Look at the ocean the same? Certainly not!" The smile faded, and he tilted his head, eyeing Marius. Was he suggesting something? Considering the relationship he shared with Eponine, Aureate feld no cause for the other stallion to worry... "Yes, Best Friend." Aureate replied stoutly. "Practically a sister, not that that's saying much, my own is like hellfire unleashed... Perhaps that is why I borrow your's..."
