who: Berrymae & Breeze
what: impromptu meeting between two betas with likely some things in common
where: at the edge of the tank, near a shore where the waves can get pretty cool
when: midday to start
why: should be fun. also, might be interesting for Berry to meet a surfer who's mated. ^_^ It was a bright day, not long after a storm had rolled away. The surface of the water was still churning from the impact of wind & rain and not like regular waves at all. Not that it was the right time of day for the best waves here anyway. There was a board, beta-sized with places for fins to hold, jammed into the firm sediment where the current was weak. The board was reverse colors of its owner: mostly orange with its designs in purple, the mark of her grandmother passed down through her mother on its center.
Its owner was a fair length away. A berry colored clownfish jumping out from the water as high as she could go, grabbing a vine dangling over the water with her mouth and then swinging as much as she could before releasing and flying though the air and landing with a splash back in the water. It was a double thrill, maybe not the most extreme out there, but the fact she could not breath out of water more than making up for the shortcomings.
Berrymae really needed to find more intense things to do. Soon this too would bore her.

 Breeze headed out of her home board in hand. She got on her board and headed out to her favorite spot. She wanted to see about catching a wave or two before heading off to do some family stuff.

Berrymae almost lost hold of the vine she was on, hearing the unmistakable sound of a 'board upon the water. She could almost pinpoint the direction and so started swinging for greater & greater momentum before releasing the vine at the height of her swing in the appointed direction with an extra flick for more distance to cover. A thrilled & excited sound came from her with the last of her held breath as the berry & orange clown fish soared unnaturally through the air towards the bright green evolved beta on a surfboard that Berry from this vantage point could now see.
Now if only she had kept enough breath not to pass out when she hit the water again. What a rush! Berry loved pushing herself to the limits.

Breeze blinked as a purple and orange fish went swinging over head. I'm pretty sure fish aren't supposed to fly Breeze thought to her self. She watched the fish land and not very well so she paddled over to make sure she was ok. She put a hand on her, she was still breathing so that was a good sign. "Are you alright? That was some crazy high flying"

Gray eyes fluttered open, a bright but dazed look within them. Then she smiled, still winded but better now that water was in her gills again. "All right?" Berrymae blinked as one coming around again but knowing where she should be was likely where she was. Then she seemed improved. "Better than all right! That was the best yet!! Man! I should've thought to give myself a farther goal ages ago!" 'Ages' said like a younger beta, where two days ago is ancient history.
Her heavy breathing might now be accounted to the beta's excitement rather than her near brush with aerial suffocation. "Crazy high flying." She agreed with a grin. "That's awesome."

Her swimming was a bit wobbly but she was recovering grandly. Berrymae pulled stunts like this as often as possible and her body had grown accustomed to a need to bounce back quick. Her eyes lit up at the suggestion! "For sure! I was just waiting for the waves to kick in! I'll grab my board!"
There was an implication of no need to wait, that she would meet up with the evolved clown fish where the waves would be had, as Berry swam off to grab her surfboard. She had to wiggle the board forcefully to get it unstuck, then quickly ran an appraising eye over the surface. Excelent. The waxing she gave it this morning was still good. Tucking it under her fin she swam to meet up with the other beta.

Breeze waded in the water as some tiny waves went under her, but nothing to really get excited about. She looked behind her and the little purple fish was swimming up. "So whats your name mate? I'm Breeze, so your a surfer too? I thought my mate and I were the only ones."

"Berrymae. But just Berry's cool." She smiled, not minding at all that her most likely nickname was a food. It was easy to see which of them their mother had named, just by whether there was food incorporated in the name. "Oh yeah. I surf. 'bout anything to get a thrill & surfing's pretty good... for... tha..."
About face. 180. "Huh? Mate? Why would ya want a mate, Breeze? Even a surfer mate?" She looked very confused, perplexed even.

She totally missed the comment about being named after food not being her fault. Not that it would have mattered much. She rather liked her name. For having had no say in it. Berry was still stuck on -stunned rather- on this other news. "Well... I mean, a surfer's cool. 'specially meeting at a competition! But, like, doesn't having a mate, like, totally cramp your style?"
Her parents seemed to only be about each other and their family, and while Berrymae had to concede that was pretty cool for them and she liked going home to their affection and attention Berry could always leave whenever she wanted. No ties of responsibility other than to visit.

"Say what?" Berrymae fell back in the water, as one side of her body forgot to swim while the other continued. "You've kids too? And they don't cramp your style?" She blinked, then blinked again. How could that be?

"Yup, I have kids too, 3 to be exact and my mate and I are thinking of having more soon. I get to pick the time in my left when it is great for me. So nothing cramps my style."

3 and wanted more? Like her parents? But... but... Berrymae shook her head, laughing incredulously. "This is so gonna take some time to digest, ya know?" Gray eyes glanced over where the waves were starting to swell. "Why don't we hit the waves... maybe it'll clear my head."
Because that was a lot to take in. Mate and kids not cramping the style of a surfer girl? Sure, Berry did more than surf but surfers were pretty extreme in their own right. Just more focused where she felt the need to always be off in search of the next thrill. But this news... like a wrench in the works of what she believed to be universal truths. Duuuude... The purple & orange clown fish swam board in fin to catch a wave.
