Think back to the early movies. Clerks and Mallrats. Back in the day, Jay(and Jason) only ever did weed or drank, and he listened to nothing but heavy metal. Then he starts doing coke and they start Chasing Amy, and while they're in the diner, talking to Holden, he keeps referencing 'Cube and such. Dogma doesn't make any musical reference, that I recall, but in J&SBSB, Jay goes so far as to rap in the diner. This was at the peak of both J's addictions before going into rehab. They come out of rehab, drinking water and soda and nothing harder than Dr. Pepper, and they're back to Heavy metal?
