I'm really surprised that I hadn't heard anything about this yet.
Adness Entertainment, of whom I've never heard, is creating an American Kamen Rider show using footage from Kamen Rider Ryuki.
From the trailer, it looks like this series is going to have a fairly serious tone.
I don't know if that's going to be a good thing though, because the story seems a little goofed.
I guess we'll see.
I'm going to have to get my hands on Ryuki, and watch it all the way through before Dragon Knight comes on.
Otherwise, I won't be able to properly judge the show.
If anything, I really just wish they'd air tokusatsu in the States dubbed.
These American adaptations are usually a joke.
That's not to say I won't tune in, though.

This looks like a joke to me. They arn't going with 'Wang Brothers' anymore as their production name or whatever? Good. Maybe that trailer will change.
I saw some of Ryuki and honestly, it never got me wanting to watch more. However, watching this preview makes me want to go back and watch Ryuki because this trailer looks even worse than Ryuki.
I hear it will be coming to cartoon network. I just hope it isn't as horrid as power rangers at ruining a good tokusatsu titles reputation here. At least someone will actually go "ew kamen rider" instead of "Ew power rangers" or "ew beetle borgs" when I show them a clip of kabuto or den-o though.

Yeah, I'm afraid that instead of raising awareness of the tokusatsu genre in America, this Kamen Rider show is just going to sully the genre's reputation even further.

I heard this rumor while (err...lurking... >_>; ) at another Toku site.
My hopes that THIS version of Kamen Rider might (and I mean, MIGHT. I never really had much faith in American adaptions of our Toku anymore) kick out that horrid 'Masked Rider' remake that was Black RX.
Hearing about this makes me want to watch the original Ryuki, but I probably might be disappointed.
Though, I never was (truthfully) much of a fan of the 'metalized' Kamen Rider, when I first saw Agito. That is... until Den-O got me into it again.

As much as I'd like to see this succeed, I already know its not. Bravo, for the attempt, But it's just not gonna happen.
They really do just need to dub tokusatsu. With the popularity of Japanese culture in America, I think tokusatsu would do more successful if you were just looking at the Japanese characters as is, with there normal storyline. But oh well!

If they'd just dub it with decent voice actors, I'd say it'd be a decent move. Ryuuki's all about cashing in on the COLLECT GARBAGE craze that's taken america by storm. So if it stuck to the original story, it'd sell plenty of crap. Oh, and there's cards in it. We all know that kids can't do anything unless a card is involved.
Teacher: "Time for recess!"
Student: "Can't get up... Haven't... got... the right... ...Ca~rd.."

But dubbing... that's not the plan. They're using different actors and from what I read a few months ago, they've made an original american story out of it.
Ultraman Tiga tried the dub. I thought it worked out decently. The series got canceled. But then again, the scheduling was basically done by tossing a dart at the schedule every week. Terribly inconsistant. Thanks, Fox Network.

i'm holding a small amount of hope out for the show. why? because saban has nothing to do with it. and considering the current success Cartoon network has had in showing old Goosebumps episodes (many of which I would consider toku), there's a small chance that this americanized Kamen Rider might actually be good.

I agree with him.
Yeah, when I heard that news, my reaction was really not pleasant at all.
Because really, after seeing the 'new' trailer (showing Femme/Siren in the mix and stuff), if I hear that damn 4kids telling the team to cut 'this and this scene' to fit in with their stupid censorship and stuff, they are really going to get a lot of hate mail from us.
Seriously... they bastardized Ultraman Tiga (despite releasing the uncut DVDs of it, which I cannot find...), how would we know they won't screw over the guys that were trying to bring Ryuki/Dragon Knight over, and change the face of the concept of a 'henshin hero' that it's not like Power Rangers?

Seriously, I thought the surgery I was going in for in an hour was worrysome, but i'd rather be awake as they yank my impacted wisdom teeth out with nothing to num the pain than to have 4kids ruin this. It was bad enough being common rider, but now we're looking at complete garbage.
*sighs* I can only hope it flops so bad I don't see a Kamen Rider I got into go through this treatment. *shudders at Faiz, Kabuto, or Den-O being 4kidized*
Great picture to go with bad news, and I too object to this.

If it does flop, or Toei/Ishinomori Pro sees something they don't like, then there goes the chance for anyone to do another Kamen Rider remake.
I mean, I've heard talks about how Ishinomori himself was really appalled when he saw what Saban did to RX, it's amazing how long Kamen Rider wasn't touched by the US since THAT happened. If 4Kids screws this up, you can bet that Ishinomori Pro isn't going to be happy.
From what I hear, Steve Wang (the guy who REALLY had to convince the companies to let him adapt Ryuki, and he's a Kamen Rider fan also) wanted this Ryuki-adaption to not be 'silly' like Power Rangers, and have a more darker edge (but, still the same concept of the Mirrorworld and stuff). That's what the people over at the HJU and, their webmaster, who met both Mark Musashi (being the suit actor for Raia in the adaption) and all the cast of Dragon Knight in LA during the wrap-up party, seemed excited about all this. >_>;

BTW try amazon from those Tiga DVDs. Found the last 2 volumes of Tiga plus the Tiga/Dyna movie on there. One or two were "like new" used but they all ran fine. There's also a Tiga/Dyna/Gaia movie that was released here too but I'm still iffy on getting it.

Anyways... like I said man, if 4Kids forces the director (Steve Wang) to mutilate the series to 'fit their standards,' Toei/Ishinomori Pro are probably going to be on their tail when they see what happened, and that'll be another end to ever bringing Kamen Rider to the States. The guy did had to convince Toei/Ishinomori Pro to let him do an adaption. I wouldn't be surprised that it took a long time, because the companies ARE protective of the Kamen Rider franchise, and would hate to have the works tainted, just like what happened to RX. I saw the trailer some months ago, and it is looking pretty spiffy. I'm giving it a shot because Mark Musashi is doing the stunts (he's doing Raia in suit), and really want to support the guy since he came back in the States. But, yeah, it would be cool to have Ryuki released on DVD and stuff... But, I'm a little doubtful, since we have the adapted 'Power Ranger' franchise, and they refuse to release Super Sentai to DVD. The same might happen with Dragon Knight also. -_-;

I saw the first ep and.. didn't really care for it. It was OK but not great. Not horrible, but not like watching Ryuki's first ep. I don't think I'll watch many more of this series myself. Got more interesting stuff to watch (like Hibiki, at the moment.)
