Volume 3-7 this is a spoiler exclaim exclaim
ok, you know that Rem Sucide to Kill W and L but i don't get it....
The only way to kill a S (forgot how to spell it, i don't use it in a everyday writing essay....sheesh) is if a S falls inlove with a human... But Rem was not in love with Misa... so why did she die?

The way for a reaper to die is if he or she kills with the Death Note to extend another humans life.
Rem cared for Misa and wanted her to be happy and live long. L and Watari would have caught Misa quickly, so she killed them so Misa's life would extend(because she would have gotten the death penalty).

The piece of paper was for Light to be able to see Ryuk
Rem killed both Watari and L

o.k.... this is an accurate truth as to why.
Raito's[Light] plan to get the Death Note works, and he and Misa return to their old positions as both Kira's.
To the people it seemed that Kira's killings had been put to pause because as soon as Higuchi died, Misa, or second Kira continued her job.
Because she continued after he died, and with perfect timing, L suspects Misa again. That was part of Raito's plan.
Rem protects Misa like Jealous did, the Shinigami who gave his life to save her from an insane obsessive man who threatened to kill her if she didn't marry him.
So, when she [Rem] realizes that this was clearly another of Raito's plan, using Misa, she gets mad and worried for Misa.
But since after Rem was with Higuchi, and came to realize how sleazy and greedy most humans are, Rem sides with Raito, one would say she becomes fond of him.
So if the case was that Rem only cared about saving Misa, she could've waited for Misa's suspicion to wear off and nothave her turn of events. But because of her fondness with Raito, she worries for him because L is also uneasy, and might set these two Kira's for life.

So, in this set of an unfortunate case, Rem gets the clever sacrificial plan to kill L and Watari off to save both Raito and Misa.
What Rem didn't know however is that Raito knew exactly what he was doing. And he also understood Rem's affection fir both him and Misa. So he play's Rem like his little toy of chance to bring L and Watari down, believing that this would end his Kira suspicions.
What Raito wasn't aware of however, was of Wammy, the detective orphanage, and the two succesors, Near and Mello, that would follow up on the case.
On a side note, Shingami do in fact die when writing a humans name into the Death Note if it involves saving someone they cared for. It is against Shinigami rules to kill a human threatening to kill a person the Shinigami cared for, because it expands the cared for humans life, and Shinigami are to not meddle with a persons life span. Here is one rule stated-
"There are laws in the world of gods of death. If a god of death [Shinigami] should break the law there are 9 levels of severity staring at Level 8 and going up to Level 1 plus the Extreme Level. For severity levels above 3 the god of death will be killed after being punished. For example, killing a human without using the Death Note is considered as the Extreme Level."
In other words, the Extreme Level is banishment of existence. Rem knowing this since she explained it to Misa makes it further proof that she knew the effects of using the Death Note against the rule, witnessed Jealous turn to nothing before her eyes, and was 100 percent well aware of what she was doing.
