"Amary, sometimes you are too cute even for yourself!"

Laughing, the red-violet mare stood on the bank of a small pool, her pleased and smiling expression focused on the reflection that stared back at her. While in many ways it was the height of vanity to preen as much as she did, Amary herself would be the first to admit that she took pride in her looks, then turn the tables on whoever criticized her and hopefully in the end even have THEM preening. Because everyone was beautiful in some ways, even if she herself or other random Soquilis didn't think so. Even the slimy ones had to be attractive to SOMEONE.

Luckily, though, she was NOT slimy, nor was she scaly or in any other way gross. What she was, in her own way of thinking, was perfectly delightful; nicely proportioned, dramatically colored, and with a charming personality to boot...though that personality didn't show much in her reflection. Well, aside of the glint in her eyes and the flirty turn of her smile, but THAT could be accomplished by many mares.

Satisfied that her reflection wasn't lying, Amary turned a bit to the side, admiring her profile before turning again and striking a pose. Yep, good from that side too...

It was going to be a great day, she could feel it!

Dante was not in the same mindset as the brightly colored mare, and as he lazily walked, he dragged his heavy body along with him. There had been so many things going on in his life lately, and he felt exhausted in both mind and body. He couldn't handle the pressures of life at all, and it was brought to his attention how useless he was as a creature.

Being useless wasn't that bad... he had no conflicts or dilemmas in his life, so what was the problem? Why did it plague him so much? What else could he possibly be? Was there a more worthy status that he should achieve for? Just thinking about these issue was making the stallion tired, and he decided to remain content in his dilemmas.. ugh, the annoyance of it all.

With a quiet sigh, he stopped quickly to notice something bright in the distance. After figuring out that SOMEONE was in front of him, he shrugged his shoulders and walked towards the creature. It appeared to be a mare, and he was quiet as he approached. She didn't seem to notice him right away, so he just stood idly and watched her, wondering what she was doing.

As was often the case with those wrapped up in themselves, amary had not even the slightest inkling that there was someone else around. Had she known, it was questionable that she would have have minded...but she probably would have at least turned and struck up a conversation. As it was, she simply remained as she was, giggling and posing and generally flirting with her reflection in the water.

But before too much time had passed, she was turning away, blowing her reflection a kiss of farewell and turning...right into the stallion. Or at least into the direction of the stallion. And to say that he caught her up short was putting it mildly.

The first thing she noticed was his mane. It was so long and white and luxurious, falling nearly to his feet, and it looked so SOFT! He didn't seem that concerned about it getting dirty, though because it was dragging on the ground...and were those wings? On his head? Could one actually fly with headwings, or were they some sort of exceedingly recessive trait that were the result of numerous crosses between a wind and several regulars? And he was big. Quite big, though not as big as her kalona half-brothers. Or was he? It was hard to tell at this distance.

All these things flitted through her mind in a split second, the reflex of a mind used to quick assessments. After all, staring blankly was RUDE, and she was never rude. Exactly.

So almost the instant she'd turned, she was giving the stallion a teasing smile and shaking her head at him. "Tsk tsk, we haven't even been introduced and you're already spying on me? You ought to have been paying better attention when your mama told you not to stare at strange mares? Though I suppose it would be hypocritical of me to tell you not to stare now, since I'm staring at you, but just to makes things better and more well rounded, I'm Amary. Who're you?"
PostPosted: Tue Sep 25, 2007 5:03 am

After the mare spoke, he blinked for a moment before realizing it was his turn to talk. Some obvious things were not so obvious for Dante, and he shook his mane out before proceeding. "I did no such thing, I was just quietly standing.. forgive me.." His voice was still quiet, managing to be only loud enough for Amary to hear. Dante didn't think he was staring, since he was just scoping in the situation that the mare was in. But alas, she didn't seem that offended, so at least their was no conflict to deal with. If anything, she was too social for that kind of think, so at least he was thankful for that.

"I'm Dante.. and I won't stare again, I assure you." Bringing his eyes down as he always did, he trailed them around until he was looking to the left in a natural daze. "What were you doing by the way? I didn't mean to interrupt, but apparently I did." Of course he did, he always bothered others for some reason. It was always that scenario of 'there at the wrong time' kinda thing, and he sighed quietly before glancing at the females eyes.

After a moment of actually seeing what her eyes looked like, he brought his own somewhere else, already feeling intimidated by her eyesight. It was too embarrassing to look at others, and he was ashamed already for freaking the mare out or something.

Ever since she was a filly, one constant about Amary was her ability to go with the flow. Regardless of who she met or what she met, regardless of whether or not she annoyed or delighted or was merely regarded as beneath notice she would do what she could to deal with it. Things didn't get to her; life was too short to spend too much time wondering why, for example, someone didn't like you.

In the case of this new stallion though, Amary was already pleased to know that such mullings weren't necessary. Sure, he was quiet, but he didn't seem to be annoyed with her; if anything, he seemed to think that he'd annoyed her, a truly laughable idea.

So she was quick to try and shake him of that idea. Laughing, she shook her head at the large stallion, he eyes twinkling with amusement. "Hey, you don't have to apologize; I'm just teasing you, since you managed to sneak up on me so well. I tell you Dante, it's a sad state of affairs when a mare who thinks she's as sharp as I think me to be can be so completely caught off-guard!"

Grinning, the mare pirouetted in place, twirling about so that her mane and tail nearly stood on end. This was so exciting, she couldn't stand still! Company!

But having gotten that out of her system, she resumed her standing position, giving the stallion a grin and a giggle of disbelief. Like he REALLY needed to ask! But she could play along. "And you didn't interrupt anything, I was just preening. A girl likes to look her best, you know." At that, she gave the stallion a conspiratorial wink, flipping her forelock back to the side in a flirty manner. "But I suppose that you, as a stallion, might not be as familiar with that concept. HOWEVER, you don't have to refrain from staring; on the contrary, stare all you want." She quite enjoyed it, after all...

"But enough about me; what brings you out here, Dante, if not the desire to spy on beautiful mares?"

(( I apologize for smaller posts, he doesn't say a lot XD; ))

"Things happen.." he slowly said while still eying something else. It appeared that the mare was going to talk a lot.. which Dante was NOT used to. Thinking about it made him nervous, so he awaited what else she would say with caution. Would he be judged by her? He was seriously starting to get worried..

"I assure you I wasn't trying to stare or spy, I was just walking through the area. I stopped because it was pollite." In his usual lame tone, he blinked at her, not understanding her playful attitude. Why was she acting so strange when she didn't even know him? Was she joking, or was she being serious?

He had so much to learn about others, and he shifted uncomfortably while slightly watching her. "I tend to wander a lot so.. I guess if I run into others, it just happens." Not that he didn't enjoy conversations, but he certainly didn't understand them! "I'm sorry, I'm not good at speaking to others, so I most certainly will be a bore." With a light sigh, he rolled his eyes at himself and prepared for the worst. He was sure she would ask him to leave, he was clearly too awkward.

((Hey, not everyone talks a mile a minute XD))

Thus far in the course of their interview, Amary had been struck by Dante's unique physical traits; his long mane, his peculiar headwings, his height. But as the conversation continued, Amary became increasingly fascinated by his seemingly reticent and even demure attitude, something that she wouldn't have expected.

Silence she'd dealt with in the guise of her friend Sigao, a stallion who never spoke unless it was absolutely necessary. However, in spite of his silences, he'd always had a sly and amused air about him, which she'd always enjoyed.

In fact, the more she thought about it, the more she was reminded of her brother in the prescence of their father; never looking up, always looking ill-at-ease...though why this stallion was acting that way around HER was a complete mystery. Surely she wasn't that intimidating, was she? Apparently she was, or he wouldn't be acting that way.

So at least for the moment, she dropped the teasing attitude to try and set the stallion at ease. Running a wing through her mane, she gave the stallion a grin and shook her head. "Hey, if you think you're a bore you'll psyche yourself out before you've even begun talking! And that aside, how are you supposed to improve your conversation skills if you don't talk to people?"

With that, she gave Dante a wink, standing up straighter to make herself look a LITTLE less tiny beside the stallion. "And you've already talked more in the past few minutes than another friend of mine will in hours, so that's a good start. But don't undersell yourself so early, or me, for that matter. I mean, I don't think that I'm THAT shallow." If she did say so herself.

"I.. that is a good point.." he shrugged with an embarrassed face and admired the female's brightness in both beauty and speech. He wished he was that confident, and it was as if he was the complete opposite, with his gray coloring and distasteful words.. BUT, besides that, it seemed Amary was accepting him for who he was. That was definitely new to him..

"No no you are not shallow, I am just.. strange." With a slight smile he tried to look friendlier. "I like your wings, they are very pretty in color. In fact, your shade of coloring is very beautiful." Everything Dante said was spoken in bluntness and truth, and he nodded without considering how that sounded. Hopefully she wasn't offended that he was looking at her wings and stuff.. he had a slight fascination with wings, since his head wings entertained him so.

And with that, the little wings on his head wiggled as he started to escape the shell that surrounded him. "Is it fun to fly? My sister has wings.. well, many wings, though she is too afraid to fly." Poor Meera, she was even more silent then him!

"That's better, much better! And thanks, I have to admit that I'm rather partial to my coloration myself. It's certainly not something I've ever seen before!" Laughing, Amary twirled again, spreading wide her wings so that Dante could see them in all their glory. Serious moment aside, she loved being praised; the fact that Dante didn't seem like the type to randomly compliment made her glow even more at the words.

Though she supposed his question about flight answered her earlier wonderance as to whether or not he could fly with his little head wings. That probably would have been awkward anyway, but she'd still been intrigued by the idea.

So she grinned, dismissing that idea with a toss of her head. "Honestly? Flight is SOOOOOO much fun, you wouldn't believe it. You're so light and manuverable, it's like you're a bug yourself!" Not that being a bug was necessarily a good thing, but it was the closest comparison she could think of at the moment. "Though you know, at first I thought maybe you could fly with those little wings on your head. Then again, that'd be hard on your neck, I'd think, so maybe it's a good thing you can't. Seriously though, those wings are adorable; they go so perfectly with your hair which is, by the way, gorgeous. I could just bury myself in hair like that FOREVER." And she probably could, if given the opportunity; she LOVED hair.

Though she had to ask. "Is it a major pain to groom, your mane? It looks amazing, but it's so long I'd think you'd have to work with it a lot...or is that naturally even?"

He was quiet for most of what Amary said, especially when she described flying to him. It wasn't that he was jealous, since he probably wouldn't have actually flown if he had wings. But Amary was so positive about the experience, that it made him more interested then before. "I'll have to convince my sister that flying is ok then.." he pondered quietly while bringing his eyes on Amary's wings. "Her wings are much different, and they are all over her body. I hope that will still allow her to fly." It was worth a shot, especially if Amary recommended it so much.

"My hair?" he shook his head to get some of the clumps out of his face. "Thanks.." No, he didn't like his hair, not one bit. It was the exact hair that his father had, and the tips of red look as though they were dripping with blood. It was a trait that he completely inherited from his father, and he most certainly didn't like it.

"I.. don't really do anything. Why, do you groom your hair?" he looked at her with a more confused expression now, since he didn't care about his appearance at all. "I don't really focus on that sort of thing, is it important?" Maybe he was too lazy? Just thinking about it made him very worried!

"Your hair is a lot different from mine, its all curly. Must be a family trait, since everyone in my family has straight hair." With a quiet chuckle, he wondered why he was being so random in their discussion. At least it felt nice to open up, and not be judged for any noises he made.

At Dante's description of his sister's wings, Amary found herself visualizing a mare almost entirely encased in feathers and wings; backwings, headwings, legwings, tail wings, wings and wings and wings! That was probably a LITTLE more elaborate than the truth, but if Dante had headwings, it made sense that maybe his sister had unique wing placement, too. Though at least she was able to fly, from the sound of it, which was good. "Well, while you're working on that make sure to emphasize the importance of a LOT of practice, Dante; you can really hurt or even KILL yourself if you try to accomplish too much. It'd be best if she had someone who knew how to fly around to help her, but even having a groundborn spotter can be a lot of help." Speaking from experience, there. "'Cause really, having wings but not flying has to be a drag!"

Shaking her head at the very idea, the brightly colored mare gave the stallion a wide-eyed look at his confession about his hair, then looked at the mane, back at his face, back at his mane, and back at his face again before finally managing a "REALLY? You honestly never do anything with it, and it still looks that good? Oh, you are such a horrible, horrible stallion!" She meant in in jest, but just to make sure that there were no confusion issues she was quick to add on, "That is to say, it really makes me jealous that your hair can look so good when you never do anything with it. I mean, it's honestly GORGEOUS!"

She was already pretty close to the stallion, but as she spoke she took another step closer and carefully extended a wing, combing her edge feathers lightly through the stallion's long hair. "I suppose it's a natural blessing, but still!" Sighing wistfully, she pulled back the wing, then gave Dante a grin at his inquiry about her hair. "Depends on the Soquili, but I've always been taught that looking well is important. And yes, my curls are genetic; my parents both have curls in one form or another; I think that look suits me, what do you think?"

He had a nice smile, Dante; he was a bit close with it, but when he DID show it, it was quite charming. "And you know, you should smile more. And laugh, for that matter; being happy-looking suits YOU." If she did say so herself!
PostPosted: Sat Sep 29, 2007 9:56 am

Dante cringed, since he most certainly didn't want his sister to get hurt! And, seeing that she was the only one who had wings, he decided it was best to avoid that scenario. "My brother and I don't have wings, and neither does my mother. So I suppose it would be best to allow her to just walk on land." With a light shrug, he walked a few steps away from Amary only because his legs were starting to feel stiff. With a stretch here and there, he chuckled to himself before shaking his legs.

After quickly moving his body around, he circled back to face the female. Before he could even look at her, she was admiring his hair AGAIN. "I am sorry if that makes me horrible, but I don't really care about appearance and that sort of thing." With a head tilt, he then said with a kind grin, "Wait so, since you have nice hair, does that make you 'horrible' as well?" Still a bit awkward in his jokes, he wondered if that even made sense. "I think curls fit you because you are so bouncy in personality. I am plain, so plain her suites me, right?" That kind of made sense.. right?

"Well you are very successful in keeping your appearance up, if you are in to that sort of thing." There wasn't an once of dirt on her, and he kinda wondered how that was possible..

He was then surprised at her next words...Happy? Did he really look happier by just that? "How can you tell what suits someone better? I mean.. all I did was move my face a little bit, how could that honestly transform everything?" Sort of a strange question, but smiling didn't hide any of his real problems. But, at least it put a face mask on, and maybe that was for the better?

Though she understood the wisdom in staying grounded when there was noone to teach her how to fly, Amary nevertheless felt a pang of pity for Dante's sister. To have wings and yet be unable to fly would be a major cross to bear...though at least the mare had a devoted and caring brother. That would make up for at least SOME of the deficiencies, she'd think.

And he seemed a good sort, if a bit stiff and awkward in his socializations. Then again, he own beloved brother couldn't even talk to their father without getting nervous, so the stiffness was familiar and, if anything, spurred her even more to set him at ease.

Consequently, she was more than willing to grin at his jest, sticking her tongue out at him and shaking her head. "No, silly! Or at least, I'm not horrible to YOU, since you don't care about hair...unless you only don't care about your own hair but secretly yearn to have luxurious red-violet curls. If so, I have to be frank, Dante...they just would NOT suit you. Red-violet isn't your color so much as white is." As she spoke, the mare stepped up to Dante and patted his cheek, her expression a serious mask like one would expect to see on a bearer of bad news. However, she was merely being silly and before long had dissolved into giggles once again. Too fun!

She had to admit he was getting better at the complimenting; still a bit too self-negative for her tastes, but this was progress. And she could at least be informative, if she did say so herself. "And you are NOT plain, Dante; your blue-gray color is really rather beautiful, and like I said I would LOVE to have hair like yours. Pale colors are so pretty, they're like early spring. And I've always been partial to red and black; personal preferences." With a giggle, Amary moved on past that subject; it would be too much family talk to explain how well her father carried off the colors, and there was a time and place for family talk. Right now was a time for...other conversation?

"Well, you might have just moved your face, but a smile can really light up your expression and even your person, Dante. I mean, you can send a powerful message, just with how you look at someone. Like, if I look at you like this." Holding her head high, the mare gave Dante a bright, cheery grin, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "That sends a much cheerier message than this, don't you think?" With that, the mare drooped head, wing, and body, her eyes downcast and a tremulous expression of abject misery on her face. "Or this?" Then she was looking up, her eyes blazing and a furious scowl on her face. "And then there's this..." Tilting her head slightly to the side, Amary allowed her forelock to fall over one eye and gave Dante a meltingly sensual smile, fluttering the eyelashes of her visible eye coyly. "Different look, different message, don't you agree?"
PostPosted: Sun Sep 30, 2007 7:54 am

He noticed that the hair subject started to diminish, and he was quickly pulled into her other discussion about the power of smiling. But Amary wasn't only discussing smiling, she also went into some other facial expressions that Dante would never use himself. "You seem to have a variety of moves, have you practiced a lot? Or is that natural for you?" With a light grin, he wondered why this was so hard for him to do on daily basis. But, he didn't see anything wrong with not showing a lot of what he felt. It was easier to NOT show anything, since it was too hard when he dug into his emotions.

But despite all of that, his focus at the moment was the mare, not himself. She was going out of her way to show him something, and he was idly ignoring some of her main points. He needed to stop listening to his mind's nonsense and focus on everything Amary was telling him. If he didn't try, he would regret not knowing if her advice could actually work on him. Maybe he feared this kind of change, or maybe he was literally too lazy? Ah well, there was always a time to start.

"I am sure if I practice that sort of thing it would become more natural for me." Well.. all except that mare's last facial expression. He wasn't sure what that was all about. He could barely see her face, but apparently that was what Amary wanted. "But is changing myself so simply really going to be worth it? What if I am happy the way things are." That was about the most untrue statement Dante had ever made, but he decided to boast it anyways. He really was a fool, since he was spewing such nonsense out of his mouth.

Nope, Amary wasn't regretting this experience at all. It was a bit of a deviation from her usual routine, to be sure, but Dante was proving to be such an involved conversation partner that it couldn't help but make her preen a bit. She was used to being complimented, but being complimented for what she was saying was in many ways a novelty. She was the sort of mare that stallions didn't take seriously, after all; a light, fluffy bit of fun and nothing more. She was good with that, as a rule, but that didn't mean she didn't like to feel smart from time to time, or at LEAST knowledgable.

Resuming her usual grin, Amary returned Dante's grin with a giggle. "Depends on the face. I'm not really good at being angry, cause anger is only misdirected passion and I'm too keyed on passion to misdirect it," giving Dante a conspiratorial wink, she continued on. "And being sad means you're wasting time you could be happy, and I prefer happy to sad, so THAT's not really something I do a lot, either. But they're all natural, even if the angry and sad faces ARE mimics." But at least she had good Soquilis around to mimic; her dome would be much less dramatic if she only had two facial expressions to share!

Though that wasn't everything. At Dante's query about the worth of change, her pretty muzzle curled down into a tiny little frown as she tried to get what he meant by that. After all, he could be whatever he wanted to be, cause he was him and had to live that way. But he might be confused, so she'd try and help him out some more.

"See, you should be how YOU want to be, Dante, but you also gotta think of what sort of image you're presenting. See, if you don't smile, you can make other Soquilis nervous so they won't want to be near you, and that might make YOU lonely and feel bad. And it's not fun to be lonely, is it?" As she spoke, Amary reached out and gently stroked Dante's cheek with the tip of one wing, the gesture meant to mean many things to those that actually understood such subtleties. Amary was enjoying this conversation to no end, but as she saw things there was so much more to mare/stallion interactions than just talking, and she wanted to see whether or not such things were possible. After all, Dante was out of the ordinary...

But she could play it cautious; in the meantime, they were having fun talking, and that was important too. So she just kept her wing as it was, lightly stroking, for as long as Dante stayed constant. "Then again, it could be that you like being alone, or you only want to talk to people that aren't nervous about approaching you even WITH a straight or even angry face. If that's the case, then I guess it makes sense for you to be grim. Or is it just serious?" Frowning, Amary considered the idea for a moment, then laughed up at the stallion. "Well, whichever it is, I guess what matters is what you want. So if you don't want to smile, then don't smile. But on a personal note...I, at least, like you a whole lot better when you smile." With that, the mare took another step forward, then gave the large stallion a nuzzle.
