"What do you think of this, Vin?"
"...no."
"And this?"
"...no."
"Then what do you want?"
"...this one is not suitable for the clothing of Breeders."
Xaga bit back a scream of frustration and threw her hands in the air, neatly launching a rather cute white dress off the hanger and onto another patron's head. She immediately put her head down, hanging everything she had just showed Vin back up and neatly exiting the little shop.
She had taken Vin out in the hopes of buying more clothes than just the few turtlenecks and slacks that the child wore, but Vin was having nothing of it. Ve simply refused to wear clothing that came from a gender-specific store.
"There are no shops that don't separate by gender, you know," Xaga growled at Vin, but the child simply lowered vis eyes.
"This one apologizes, but this one is not suitable for the clothing."
"All the clothes you WEAR come from gender-specific stores!"
"Then this one will go without."
This time, Xaga did scream her irritation, burying her hands in her hair and pulling on it as if hurting her scalp would make the annoying problem go away.
It was only noon, and it was going to be a painfully long day.

After quite a bit of 'discussion' Sarria had finally gotten Viktor's permission to get something she wanted badly. A pet. Something to keep her company while Viktor was off ignoring her for other things. It was decided that this was the day they would devote to wandering around stores. Viktor needed a few things as well, so there they were, walking around to various stores in between pet stores.
At around the time the fellow Terra and its parent were exiting the store, Viktor and Sarria were passing by. Sarria was watching the ground, counting how many steps she was taking and Viktor had the usual look of disgust on his face that somehow managed to look lifeless and stonelike. His eyes were hidden by his sunglasses, and were fixed on Xaga as she had screamed.
Shifting one of the bags in his hands, he put a hand on Sarria and gently pushed her away fromt he 'crazy' woman while looking over at Xaga with his entire head now, "Come now, darling. We must not associate with the..."
She cut him off as she squinted at Vin. Having no idea who this...thing was, she still felt some kind of tug, "I think she's one of me!"
"What?"
"Like me!" Pointing at herself, Sarria managed to slip away from Viktor and headed toward the other two, suddenly remembering Viktor didn't like it when she was so happy and cheerful.
Slowing down considerably as she approached, trying to act calm as she waved, "Hello. Are you like me?" She asked, figuring the other would know what she meant if it was like her.
Viktor only rolled his eyes and followed. He couldn't keep her from others of her kind forever.

Xaga looked up just in time to realize that she had made a complete fool of herself in the presence of someone. She glanced quickly over at Viktor, decided that she didn't care as long as the person she had made a bad impression on wasn't a beautiful woman, and was about to walk away when Vin paused.
"The young Breeder is from the same place this one's," Vin remarked just before Sarria bounced over and addressed ver. Ve looked immediately down at vis feet and pretended ve was invisible.
"..."
Ve bit vis lip as Sarria asked if Vin was like her, trying hard to keep from showing any emotion. It wasn't vis place to get upset, especially not at a Breeder.
"This one was born in the same place," ve remarked softly, "but this one is not like you in any other way."
Xaga glanced up as Viktor approached and gave him a sheepish smile, realizing that her taped chest probably didn't detract from the horrible impression of madness that she had already given him. "Before you judge, you try and shop for a child that refuses to buy clothes from anywhere that people with genders shop," she said lightly. "My name is Xaga, the kid is Vin, and I imagine you're someone associated with Terra Incorporated."

Sarria's smile, which was already small enough became non-existant as she eyed him...or her cautiously. Taking a step or two back until she was beside Viktor she squinted her odd eyes at Vin, "Are you okay?" She asked quietly, trying to match the volume of the other Terra.
She looked up at Xaga as she heard the other Terra's name, "So you're name is Vin, huh?" Feeling more comfortable, she took a step forward again, to get closer to Vin, and bending over to try and look into vis eyes by leaning over so she was half upside down, if that makes any sense...
Vikor seemed almost pleased with how Vin was so 'diciplined.' If only Sarria had been like that he'd have less work to do to correct her. Raising the corner of his lips in what started out looking like a smile until it became the sneer it was meant to be, he examined the odd pair. Not finding the woman's little comment funny in any way he looked unamused as he introduced himself, deciding to act at least somewhat human.
"That is Sarria, and I am Dr. Rakov." His tone was unfriendly as he turned his attention to Sarria, watching her try to interact with Vin, if you could call it that. "Why? Is it some sort of...freak?"

Vin blinked and tried to back away from the questions of the young girl, only to be stopped by Xaga's hand between vis shoulder blades. Ve grimaced and looked up at Xaga, who was staring fixedly at Viktor as if she had never seen something quite like him before. "Yes..." ve said softly. "This one can be called Vin." Ve blinked as Sarria tried to make eye contact, and eventually looked up, because looking down was no longer an option. "Please, do not twist like that. It makes this one dizzy," ve said softly.
That surprized Xaga. Vin had not yet offered a single personal opinion to her, and apparently Sarria was able to bring something in the child out that Xaga had so far failed at doing. She smiled briefly at the little girl before fixing a very cold smile upon Viktor. "No more of a freak than your own child, Doctor Rakov," she said softly, almost a challenge. Honestly, though. There was something peculiar about the small child that intrigued but almost frightened Xaga. The girl was...slightly supernatural, perhaps?
She didn't bother to say 'no more of a freak than me.' Certainly, Viktor could have had a field day if she had. She didn't look the part of a responsible adult, what with her spiked violet hair, peculiar figure (self-altered), and her ability to ignore typical inhibitions and scream in public.
Vin, meanwhile, had shifted vis gaze from the peculiar other Terra to Viktor. There was something about the man that ve instinctively disliked, but also something that drew ver in. Viktor exuded an aura of self-confident power, to the point of arrogance, that made Vin want to fall at his feet and pledge service. Ve liked Viktor's attitude. Here, finally, was someone who understood that Vin was not one of them and didn't exist to be an equal.
Someday, someone would have to teach ver not to think like that.

"Oh, sorry." Sarria half-laughed as she straightened up and let out a rather friendly smile after peeking over at Viktor to make sure he wouldn't catch it, "That's a pretty..." she trailed off, taking only a few seconds to add, "cool name." Unsure if ve was a he or a she, she didn't want to go insulting him if he was a boy by having a 'pretty' name.
"Oh, look at the color of...Vin's eyes!" She pointed toward ver and tugged on Viktor's jacket, "I really like them." She told ver and gave a single nod of her head before asking, "So you're looking for some clothes, huh? What kind of clothes do you like? Or want?"
As his jacket was tugged, Viktor moved his gaze from Xaga to glance at Vin's eyes, which, were indeed pretty...handsome! Without responding other than a nod, he looked back at Xaga.
Very, very slowly an almost sinister grin formed on Viktor's lips at what she said, "Of course." With his free hand he removed his sunglasses, and his cold grey eyes were aimed at Sarria and Vin until they snapped back to Xaga, without trying to be subtle he eyed her carefully before speaking again, "What is it? Boy, girl, ...both...neither?" With each word his tone became darker.

Vin blinked when Sarria complemented vis name, taking a moment to sort out the confusion of such a thing. Sarria had not been prompted to give Vin praise, and ve felt awkward in the face of it. "Thank you," ve murmured.
And then, stranger even than that, Sarria complemented Vin's eyes, not to Vin but to the serious-looking adult male who was, as far as Vin could tell, Sarria's Xaga-figure, although he was much more of what Vin would have prefered in a guardian. Perhaps they had emerged at the wrong time, or there had been a mix-up with the transmitters. Vin was probably meant for this commanding man, Sarria for someone more like Xaga, if not the peculiar woman herself.
Vin managed to miss Viktor's appraising gaze, although the same could not be said for Xaga. She paled slightly as Viktor looked her up and down, not from any shame (why, after all, would she care what a stranger--male, at that--thought about her?) but in response to his cold expression and tone.
"Ve is androgynous. And came equipped with gender-neutral vocabulary," she said softly, refusing to give way under Viktor's sneer. "I, sir, am female," she added, frowning deeply at the man. She had no idea where this conversation was going, but she was getting the impression that she might have to hurt someone or risk getting hurt herself.

"You're welcome. I really like them." Sarria folded her arms as she blinked a few times at Vin. Looking up at Xaga she asked, "Is Vin usually this quiet?"
"Because that's okay." She returned her attention to Vin shortly after and made her smile larger before taking it back down to it's normal size. It had started to hurt.
Viktor raised an eyebrow when Xaga had told him what she was as well, "I see." He responded flatly before tearing his eyes away from her to glare at Vin and give a small shake of his head.
Around that time, Sarria had continued on, "Because he doesn't talk a lot either." and pointed at Viktor. She then looked back up at Xaga and gave a small smile that faded away, when she noticed Viktor could see it if he looked over at her, and got a more serious look on her face.

"Vin doesn't like talking, much," Xaga answered Sarria, flashing her a brief smile before returning her gaze to Viktor. She narrowed her eyes to a glare, hoping the fact that her eyes were fire-yellow would impress or deter the man's disturbing gaze and cynicism but not expecting it.
Vin's eye twitched when ve sensed Victor looking at ver. Very carefully, ve raised vis gaze to Viktor's eyes, making eye contact for the barest second before glancing quickly away. Ve was in total awe of the man, and if Viktor had asked it, would have done anything for him.
Viktor's aura of power threatened to engulf ver as ve looked at him. When Viktor shook his head, Vin tore vis gaze away and looked over at Xaga, who had shifted her glare from Viktor to Sarria, and then softened it completely in the presence of the girl.
"I see," she said softly, and she frowned just a little bit as Sarria's smile faded. She glanced at Viktor and back to Sarria again. "So," she said, suddenly returning to her typical cheer, "what brings you out here?"

"Oh?" Sarria moved closer to Viktor and looked up at him a moment before going back to watching Vin curiously. "Why don't you like to talk?" She asked, missing Xaga's question, or she would have answered. "Are you shy? Oh, do you want to see something?"
Viktor had still been glaring at Vin and waiting for Sarria to answer Xaga, because he had no intention of doing so. Shortly, he realized Sarria didn't seem to be answering it and somehow managed to appear even more annoyed than he already did.
When he looked back at Xaga he noticed her glare and only gave her an odd look she like she was insane. As if he hadn't just been glaring at her for no reason...He seemed to wait a few more seconds before he finally answered when Sarria clearly wasn't going to answer.
"She wanted a pet. We were looking at the pet stores..."

Perhaps it was stupid, but Vin would have assumed that since Xaga had just informed the girl that Vin did not like speaking, she would ver alone. Apparently, vis conceptions of the world still needed work. People could NOT take hints. Ve averted vis eyes and tried to make verself even more invisible than ve already felt.
Ve felt rather than saw Viktor's eyes on Sarria, his intense glare, and admired him all the more. He was so suited to Vin, and Xaga to Sarria. There must have been a mistake. Perhaps ve could get Xaga to talk to that Alistair man about re-homing the two children, because they obviously weren't compatible with their current guardians.
But one stolen glance at Xaga revealed that she would do no such thing.
Xaga was watching Viktor with an expression akin to one you'd find on a displeased velociraptor. She was all but snarling her distaste. Knowing no better, Vin assumed this had something to do with Xaga's dislike of the male sex in general, and then further dismissed it as a Breeder thing. Ve returned vis attention to Sarria, while Xaga finally composed herself enough to give an intelligent reply to Viktor.
"Well," she said eventually, "good luck then." She shot a glance at Vin and Sarria, and then looked at Viktor. A perverse whim struck her. "My roommate just moved out; maybe some sort of animal will help fill that void."
Vin certainly didn't. Vin didn't want love, just orders. And ve was aware of this. Tilting vis head, ve regarded Sarria solemnly. "You are looking for an animal?"

Poor Vin, talking to her couldn't help things. She had just been about to give up and was mid-sigh when ve spoke. Her eyes lit up again and she nodded, "Yeah. I think I found one I like. That's what I was going to show you! I think the petstore here has one!"
"What did I tell you about talking so much?" Viktor interrupted Sarria before she could say any more.
"Oh, oh yes. Sorry." She gave a nod as she tried to remember his exact wording.
Once he was sure she wasn't going to have another outburst of cheerfulness/outgoing...ness he narrowed his eyes at Xaga some then slowly moved his gaze to the petstore somewhere not too far off. Taking a step back, he moved behind Sarria and put a hand on her shoulder, "It's over there." He pointed in the direction and Sarria looked as if she was about ready to start running toward it.
"Do you want to come with us then?" She asked both Vin and Xaga.
"I'm sure they don't." Viktor told her as his sneer returned.

Xaga opened her mouth to say something when Viktor interrupted Sarria, but she closed it and glanced down at Vin, blinking. The child had actually turned vis gaze to Viktor and was watching him with mixed adoration and terror. Xaga didn't like that expression. To be perfectly honest, it troubled her deeply. As did Viktor's behaviour toward Sarria. She was his daughter, or at least she was supposed to be akin to his daughter! How dare he treat her like that!
Vin all but jumped up and ran in vis eagerness to comply to the obvious command in Viktor's last comment, but Xaga put a hand on vis shoulder and smiled at Sarria.
"Actually," she said lightly, pleasantly, giving Viktor a glowing smile even though her eyes suggested that she wouldn't mind meeting Viktor again without children, preferably with a chainsaw, "we would love to accompany you. Vin, let's walk along with Viktor and Sarria, shall we?"
Vin blinked. For the first time ever, Xaga was giving ver an explicit command.
Ve almost tripped verself in vis eagerness to sand at Xaga's side, nodding.

"Wonderful..." Viktor growled as he grabbed Sarria's hand and began walking toward the petstore. Sarria walked alongside him trying to keep up, seeing as how he sped up a great deal to 'lose' Xaga and Vin.
"So what kind of pet are you thinking of?" She asked Vin, or Xaga considering Vin may not answer. "I can't wait to show you the one I want!"
Viktor was shaking his head, most likely plotting something evil. Some woman and her daughter had gone to cross in front of their path and Viktor simply...pushed...them out of the way with a finger as if they were so dirty he couldn't use his entire hand.
"HEY!" The woman had began, until he sent a violent glare in their direction, causing her to pick up her daugther and half jog away.
With a scoff, he turned around to see if Xaga and Vin were still there, his eyes falling on Vin and remaining there as he walked, letting Sarria lead the way.

As soon as Viktor turned his head, Xaga fixed the back of his neck with a smug smile, mincing a few steps in an exaggerated air of self-importance, betraying the part of her that never, ever grew up. There was something about the man--something other than the fact that he was male--that was really starting to piss her off. She wasn't sure what it was about him, but Viktor was...creepy.
"I like birds," she said eventually, noticing that little bright-eyed Sarria was talking to her. "Birds and ferrets."
Vin wasn't listening to Sarria. Ve was walking with vis head down, pretending not to hear anything adressed to ver. Ve wasn't worthy of conversation.
Ve did notice, however, when Viktor treated the woman and child who crossed his path with ultimate disdain. It confused Vin. It was the sort of attention ve'd expect to be paid to ver, not to other Breeders. That Viktor would treat Breeders with that sort of attitude was strangely thrilling.
Xaga noticed as well, shooting Viktor a deadly glare when he looked back at her. Then she returned her attention to Sarria. "So have you been out of the compound long?" she asked, mostly to distract herself from trying to strangle Viktor. In her preoccupation, she missed the object of Viktor's attentions.
Vin didn't. Ve didn't dare glance up, but Viktor's gaze burned as ve walked. Ve almost wanted to ask what was wanted of ver, but ve couldn't think of a decorous way to do it in front of Xaga.
