OMG OMG OMG JUST FINISHED IT. I'm Canadian, so I got that luxury of seeing it 3 hours before everyone else. xDD
So, I wrote down notes at commercial breaks, and I'll try to make some sense of them...
Again, I warn you, THERE IS SPOILERS. This is a discussion of it.
Firstly, I haven't screamed so loudly and shrilly like I did when I saw the title since... I can't remember when.
THE DUKE AND PIPSQUEAK ARE BAAAACK! Woo! I was so happy, I recognized Pipsqueak immediately. I was like, "FREEDOM FIGHTERS, GOOOO!" I really really really REALLY FREAKIN REALLY hope that Smellerbee and Longshot got out of Lake Laogai alright.
Is it just me, or was Toph overly affectionate?
New saddle for Appa! Woo! But it's a boat. o__O;
*deep breath* MAIKO MAIKO MAIKO MAIKO AIEEEEE!!!! I screamed again when I saw that. I mean, I saw the comic, I knew that they were an 'item', but to have it affirmed... ^___^
Hakoda VS Katara. Okay. I compleeeeetely emphasize with Katara on this one, but before she started talking about Aang flying away, I was like, "...Period, much?!" But, yeah. Poor Katara and poor Hakoda. Father-daughter stuff really gets me.
Rag-tag team of friends from around the Earth Kingdom! WOO! I predict pretty-boy Haru will make a reappearance, unfortunately, and we all know Teo's coming back. Meng! I want Meng! AND FOAMY! D< (Though, how he could be used in battle is a mystery to me...) AND THE CABBAGE MAN!!! Though, does he count as a 'friend'? He kinda hates the Gaang.
Hahhh, Earth King. That was cute.
OZAI'S FACE OZAI'S FACE OZAI'S FACE OH MY GOOOOOOD. Though, it was rather... anticlimactic. I was expecting some big plot-twisting scar or something, or he'd have blue eyes, or something crazy like that. But, nope, just normal. I get the symbolism behind it though. He's no longer the big bad Ozai to Zuko, he's his father.
Aang is Zuko, aaaaaaaaaaah!!! No, seriously, what the ********. "I need to restore my honour"?! THAT'S A ZUKO LINE.
Toph metal bending during the battle... Haaaaa... Toph kicks so much a**... I forgot. ^^
That hooky thing is quite clever. Is it strange that whenever I see a clever tool being used by the Fire Nation I immediately think, "Oh, they got that from Teo's dad"?
The serpent strikes again! xD I burst out laughing when it popped up. "Why does the universe always disagree with me?" "You make it too easy!" Hehehe...
TURTLEDUCKS! xD I love turtleducks. Plus, it's a nice little nod to 'back in the day'.
I'm not entirely sure if Azula knows that Mai and Zuko are together. She seemed to hint at it, but I'm not sure if it was accidental hinting. I THINK she knows... o___O;
GASSSSSP. He knows about the Oasis water... DUN NUN NUUUUUN...
Aaaaah, Azula is an evil genius... I LOVE IT. When I first heard that she gave the credit to Zuko for Aang's death, I was like, "...Is she actually being nice?" My first thought was, "She's trying to buddy up with him, get him to trust her..." And then when he went and woke her up and she explained it, I was like, "Ahhh... I see... WOW, you are a cold hard b***h and it's AMAZING."
WUTDAFUX YUE?! O___O I was like, "...Buuuuuh?!" It was a bit random... I'm wondering if she'll make any other appearances.
Aww, the glider is gone. ): I'll miss that thing. I noticed in the trailer that Aang got a blue one, so I knew the orange one had to go SOMEWHERE, but it was just like... so soon.
SO. Those are my thoughts.
Generally, I liked this episode. I didn't LOVE it, but it was pretty good. There was some nice character development. The only thing I felt was lacking was some humour. There was the thing with the serpent, and the 'entire world thinks you're dead' thing Sokka did at the end of the first act, and the Earth King exploring the world, but other then that it was rather... unfunny and dramatic.
I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK. xDDDD The next episode is supposed to be called The Headband, and the summary is something like 'The Gaang go to a Fire Nation School to learn how to blend in'. Something like that, I'm paraphrasing it a lot.
Woo! It is finally here!
So, discuss. Please. ^^

Yeah, I live on the East coast in the US so I got to see it also. I thought it was kinda sad...Avatar Roku and all. According to Aang, he DID die, I wonder if his Avatar spirit's okay. He wouldn't have been able to speak with Roku if it wasn't though, right? *Sigh* Zuko was my favorite character, but I've lost a lot of respect for him. Did you see the preview? "If the Avatar is alive, end him." That stupid SOB....Anyways, can't wait for next week. Oh, and was it just me, or did Aang have brown eyes?

OMG OMG OMG
That pretty much covers 301. I watched and I LOVED IT. Maiko is totally there. Kataang= Yes. She wants aang its obvious >W< I LOVE her dad hes so cool and calm. I didn't expect the firelord to be as calm looking as he looks. Azula is STILL an evil kniving jerk >.> Appa is still cute. I almost thought that aang would get stuck in an iceberg again because of what happened last time when he ran away in a storm. Metal bending= THE ******** s**t OF THE EPISODE. that and the serpent >W< I LOVED when the serpent comes up and Sokkas all like "Yep, it got worse why does the universe dissaggree with me? *serpent stalls fire ship* "Thank you universe <3" Appas new saddle is AWESOME. I think that city in the mountain in the preveiw of the third is a secret airbending nation ninja I LOVE TEH TURTLEDUCKIES X3 <3 AZULA HAS LONG HAIR o.O And zuko loooked SOO HOTT in his uniform >3

I know it sounds juvenile, but it was pretty disappointing in my opinion.
(Seira's watching Nick right now. What the ******** is this? It's called "AVATAR: THE LEGEND SO FAR." I don't remember this. O.o)

Ozai's face surprised me, too. I didn't think he would have weird eyes or anything like that, but a scar wouldn't have been surprising.
Toph's bending was amazing. The metal bending was great to see.
The turtleducks were so cute!
When Azula told Zuko about her plot, I wasn't surprised. She was always evil, and, to be honest, I don't think that she will change. It wouldn't suit her to be good, at least all the way good.
I agree with you. It was a great episode, but there was no humor, besides the Earth King and Bosco, and that part was more adorable than funny to me.. I'm sure the next episode will be funny since Aang is in school.

The episode was all right. I expected it to be better, though. D:
I watched the little short after, it was so cute! ^O^ I loved it when Katara said "Tiny Zuko, you look to CUTE!"

[I'm reposting this here since ppl are talking about it more in this forum]
I JUST finished watching it a few minutes ago, and all I can say is that it was very interesting. Aang has hair, the good-guys have captured a Fire Nation ship, the FN has captured Ba Sing Se, Zuko is back in the FN, and now we've seen Fire Lord Ozai's face. It felt a bit like they were trying to cram too much in a short time, but once the show gets settled in, it will slow down a bit, just like the previous seasons. Yeah, a lot of info to absorb in 25 minutes!
Man, Azula is so evil! I know, it was obvious when she was first introduced, but the way she talked to Zuko. . .I just got chills, metaphorically speaking, that is. She's so snaky, too.
I thought that Ozai's introduction would be a bit more dramatic than it was, but something about his eyes and features made me think of Katara and Sokka's father for some reason.
You know how you guys are uncomfortable with the Mai/Zuko pairing? Well, if you think back to "Zuko Alone", in the flashback, Mai was blushing upon seeing Zuko, and Azula and whats-her-name could tell she had a crush on him, so that's why they did that practical joke. Anyway, I can see how that pairing would make sense, since she has liked him for a long time and finally is with him, yet there is no telling what Zuko's thoughts are on it. He didn't react at all to her kissing him.
What else? Well, I liked that they showed Yue. Her entrance and appearance is very much like in Chinese/Japanese mythology when a deity approaches a hero, so I thought that was cool. And I liked what Roku said to Aang in that scene, too.
And, omg, I loved the little chibi short at the end! It was so funny and cute! Even my mom laughed at it! And chibi Iroh was so adorable! heart And I loved the end: Iroh: "But fire's still the best!" *runs off into the distance with Zuko* rofl
Also, my mom had known that Mark Hamill did Ozai's voice, so when she heard it, she was like: "Is that Mark Hamill's voice?" When she heard it again, she said it was.
And I loved it when Sokka said: "The Universe just loves proving me wrong!" and Toph says: "You make it too easy!" That was great. . .
So, overall, I liked the episode. I can't tell you how excited I was when it was just minutes away from airing! I could feel my heart beating in my chest! (That's what happens when I'm anticipating something.) I also can't wait till the next episode -- It looks hilarious! "Blah blah blah blah blah" blaugh

I think that I have to agree with Seira on this, I was slightly disappointed. It was just a lot of stuff they had to cram into such a small amount of time. However they also used up time with completely whacked out things like Yue and Roku popping up out of no where! Because of that it made things feel rushed- or at least it was to me. Plus, compared to the wait we had to go through, it was just too short! When the credits started to play all I could do was stare blankly at the screen. “That was it?” a friend of mine asked. It was the same question I had. We waited nearly ten months for a half hour of pleasure, and then we’re back to waiting. Like I said, I was disappointed.
That’s not saying that I didn’t like “The Awakening”. I loved Zuko going back and feeding the turtleducks, he hasn’t been back to the Fire Nation very long, yet he goes down to the pond to do something that both him and his mother used to do together. The sentiment was sweet. Then the fighting; though the story board artists might complain about having to create multiple fight scenes, they very rarely disappoint. Toph’s and Katara’s bending when they were fighting the Fire Nation ship was amazing, I remember turning to my friend and asking in astonishment, “When did they have time to learn this?”, and Mae Whitman’s acting when Katara has her very impromptu confrontation with her father was superb, the emotion she was able to pull into Katara was nearly enough to block the fact that the scene was so incredibly random. And of course, who didn’t love Azula in her sleep wear chic?
So now we’re back to waiting, and quite frankly I can’t! Zuko going out and hiring the hit man, not to mention who the guy is, to take down Aang nearly blew me away. I mean, seriously, the guy shoots lightening, fire, whatever it is, out of a tattoo on his forehead- that’s just not right (granted it’s not really any different from regular fire bending, but still…). Plus Zuko’s confrontation with Iroh and the gang going to school! Which leads to my new favorite quote: “I’ve already got a picture of Ozai! And here’s one I made out of noodles!” Oh how proud Ozai would be to know that the children of the Fire Nation are spending their arts and crafts time making pictures of his likeness out of noodles, it’s what every Fire Lord strives for I’m sure.
