She was growing, that much Eponine could tell. Where she had trouble peering over the tall grasses of the fields, she now could see above them. Where the leaves of trees used to taunt her from their limbs high above, she now could reach with just a stretch of her neck. The flowers seemed smaller, though they still held their brilliance, and her reflection in nearby pools and lakes looked. . . strange. Different. Her pale mane and tail were growing fast, already her bangs were beginning to flop easier in to her eyes.
But life was all about change and growth, wasn't it?
Though the dawn of realization about growth was starting to touch the filly, she still didn't see herself as anything but her parents little girl. No matter how tall she grew, no matter how much stronger her brothers became, they would always be young in her heart.
It wasn't that she didn't want to grow up. . . . she just didn't understand the difference between an adult and a foal. No matter what age she could still play her games, still tug on tails, and still dream her life away. No matter where her parents went or how far away her brothers wandered they would always be a family. . . a perfect family.
"Daddy?" Eponing called out, stepping out of the woods and in to the open meadow. She knew her family wasn't far, their scent hung heavy in the air, especially the one she was searching for! But the question was - - where was he? Twilight couldn't have disappeared forever. . . .
Hmmm. Maybe this was some game of Hide-and-Seek?
Ears twitching, the girl continued her search, pausing now and then to search behind a tree or bush in hopes of discovering the teal coated male. Oh where, oh where could he be? She had something for him and wanted to give it to him before it wilted!
Oh yes, the growing filly had learned her lesson time and time again. A flower could only stay out of the ground for so long before it betrayed its glamour.

Time was flying, and Twilight was trying to grasp and keep these moments at a standstill for all of time. It seemed like yesterday that Cosette had given birth, that they had become parents and watched their little foals view the world through untainted eyes. Now, he could barely beleive his foals were nearly adults. Their bodies had shot up in a growth spurt, while their features were becoming more and more visible.
His babies were growing up, and soon, like he had....they wouldn't need their mother or father anymore.
And that stung.
Was that how his father had felt? Zevach and Marius always bickered and fought when even in a ten foot radius of one another....Eponine seemed more concerned of getting her brother's battle lust aimed towards a fun and harmless game. (Despite no matter how many times Zevach had turned tag into a full contact event) and that caused Twilight to sigh. Perhaps them growing up would be a good thing if they inherited some sense.
Well, there was one who he'd rather not gave grown up, and that was his baby girl; Eponine.
Oh how he loved her so, such a carefree little spirit. It seemed like she'd taken the kindness from her mother and his own lust for the unknown and had become the perfect little bundle of dreams and joy. Well....she did have that strange speaking pattern, but he was sure it would go away when the jitters of childhood gave way to adulthood.
Perking his ears up as his head rose from the tree he'd been lazing under, it was days like this where it was easy to keep the thoughts that plauged his mind away. It was getting harder and harder to stay home on most days, sleeping came short and consumed with nightmares. In all honesty, Twilight wasn't sure how much more he could take before he'd never sleep again; let alone keep it all under wraps from his family. His foals looked up to him, Cosette sharing the weight of their family. He couldn't slack off in his fatherly role...what kind of stallion would he be!
Smiling a bit mischeviously, he heaved his body off the ground and trotted as quietly as he could around the trees as he crept up on his daughter. Leanding out his neck he snagged a few of her tail hairs in his teeth and gave a little tug before chuckling. "Good afternoon, Eponine.....what is it darling?" He could only smile brightly as he watched his only daughter.
Yet he decided to wait before asking about the flower she currently held between her teeth.

Thankfully she was still as oblivious as ever. Twilight could have came crashing through the underbrush as loud as he pleased he still would have wound up startling the girl! It wasn't that she was dimwitted or slow - she just often had her head in the clouds and overlooked fine and subtle details around her.
At the tug upon her tail, Eponine gave a small start, partially turning to see who it was behind her! As if she should be so surprised. Eyes gone wide quickly warmed and melted in to the delight she always felt when seeing her parents. Ever since her first moments out of the basket, her parents meant nothing but love and kindness to Eponine. They had always been there for her and her siblings, no matter how far they wandered. There was nothing they wouldn't do for them, and nothing Eponine (and she hoped her brothers as well!) wouldn't do in return. No matter how old she grew she never wanted to give up her ranks as their special girl.
No, her family was her world and her parents were on top of the list. Giggling, flower still held firmly in her teeth, she reached over to nuzzle her father's nose affectionately with her own. "I have a pr-pr-present for you," she spoke, eyes aglow with good humor.
Reaching forward, she allowed Twilight to see the gift. Typical Eponine - it was rare she didn't return home from some adventure with some trinket or gift - from the dream catcher that hung around her neck, to the beads in her tail, to the flowers and fruits and feathers that she often collected and gave away to her family. She adored giving gifts, even if it were something as simple as a flower.
This flower was blue, darker than Eponine's hide but a wee bit paler than Cosettes. The petals stretched out from the center in a strange array, while darker violets and blues curled up from the center. It was the first time the girl had ever witnessed such a flower and she couldn't pass up such a sight. A few donned her own mane, tangled within as best she could settle them, but the perfect blue plant within her mouth was meant only for her father.
Sure he had studied it, she reached over and tucked it neatly within his own mess of mane, stepping back to study her handiwork. Ahh. . .yes. . . very nice. Her pale eyes lit and danced as she nodded her approval. Giggling, she leaned forward and nuzzled him again. "There. It adds the p-p-perfect t-t-touch."
Not that Twilight, or anyone in her family, needed any further additions!

Returning the affectionate gesture, he knew that warm little smile could melt his heart every single time. It was strange, as the still rather young stallion adapted so quickly into being a father; yet the circumstances gave him little to no choice in the matter. Not that he would ever change that, no...just as how it became so easy to love cosette, he'd extended that love to their children...their lineage.
"A present for me? Eponine, you really didn't need to..."
That smile of hers was contagious.
Shaking his head slightly as he kept still so that it would be easy for his stuttering princess to fix it to his hair. It really was a pretty flower, which matched his leggings almost to the exact shade; albeit a wee bit darker....yet he wasn't picky in the slightest. Lifting his head as he could spot the blue admist the white of his hair, and with a grin he struck a most regal and defined pose. If only the wind would have blown his hair a bit to add the perfect touch.
"Do I look absolutely handsome?" He mused, and chuckled when she confirmed his suspiscions. "Thank you Eponine, its a wonderful gift my dear." He smiled, wrapping his neck around hers in a equine hug, before fixing a few of the flowers he could only assume she'd attempted to put in herself. "Such a lovely little beauty you are...." His warm smile accompanied his proud gaze perfectly, before nudging her shoulder with his nose.
"Might your father escort you to a secret place? A little adventure before we need to ge back to your mother and brothers? Twilight could barely fathom to just what kind of trouble those two were getting into if they were together!
It really was a beautiful place, one which he'd been to before when exploring the lowlands before meeting her mother. A small clearing in the heart of the woods with the most amazing lillies one had ever seen! Hidden away from the world it seemed, an eden of the exotic flowers. He was positive that Eponine would love such a place, since he held it so very near to his own heart.
"Shall we go, M'lady?" He grinned, ducking his head down in a bow as if to take the gentlemanly route and allow ladies first.

The mare giggled, positively delighted by her father's regal stance! She took a step back, admiring his posture and her touch of handiwork in his hair. "Of c-c-course you're handsome, D-d-daddy, b-but it doesn't t-t-take flowers in your mane to-to-to be that!" Eponine's adoration for Cosette and Twilight was obvious. She wasn't too adult or mature to spend time with them and it never occurred to her to live a life without them! They were her herd and the most dear ones in her life, aside from her brothers. If she had her wish they'd stay together for always.
The girl glowed underneath such praise from her father. Given that her family was so important, she never wanted to let them down or upset them. Therefor, with every compliment and every ounce of praise she received she cherished and tucked away. It meant she was doing right and doing well in their eyes, and that meant the world to the young girl.
Eponine's eyes lit up further as Twilight suggested he take her to a secret place. The pale coated mare absolutely adored secrets and hidden beauties of the world, so the fact this was one of her Father's special spots made it all the more wonderful. "Oooh - a secret?" Her interest had been piqued and she reached over to nuzzle his neck. "I would b-b-be honored!" She giggled, excited by this new adventure, ducking down in a bit of a flourished bow herself.
She stepped past Twilight as delicately as she could, head raised proudly, nose stuck up in the air. But her personality didn't allow for such vanity or airs, and as she passed she made sure to playfully whack her father with her tail. "L-L-Let us be off, my f-f-fine sir!"
Oh how Eponine couldn't wait to see where her father would take them! She loved going on trips, seeing new sights, doing new things. The cogs of her mind worked as she tried to imagine exactly what this secret place might entail - would there be other soquili there or would it be quiet and serene? Would it be by water or the mountains or out in the open like the meadows and fields? The ideas were seemingly endless which only added to the young girl's excitement.
It was moment's like these she cherished most.

"Now, this secret is between you and me, Eppie." Twilight grinned, taking on the nickname Zevach had first given his sister when they were hatched from their basket. True, it was cute....yet both Cosette and he knew that she'd need a proper name for when she grew out of being a child. By the looks of it, it would be in no time at all! "Perhaps we'll take your mother here, but your brothers might rough the place up. Understand? Now, lets go."
Twilight winked, taking a few strides forwards back towards the woods to which he'd been half in moments before his daughters arrival.
It was surreal, still in a sense that he was walking beside his child, sneaking a glance over to see her merrily trot beside him. So full of life....to think that he'd been a part of creating such an angelic creature like Eponine. It scared him in a sense, being so young and having these foals rely on you when you barely felt grown up yourself....yet he'd risen to the occasion and would do it again if needed be.
He loved his kids, for all their quirks.
Smiling mostly to himself, the only thing he ever wanted for his foals were that they were happy in life....to find their own purpose and to never give up on anything they set their mind to. It would definately help his morals that they stayed on the path of rightousness, then again; as a sullen look crossed his face momentarily.....he couldn't blame them or he himself would be a hypocrite. The stallion could only pray that they'd realized where their father had gone wrong and learned from it.
He'd tell them someday what happened. Yet for now, they deserved a carefree childhood.
As the pair wound around the trees, Twilight got a wonderful idea. Trotting up behind her he walked completely over her, matching her steps as he looked down with a warm smile. Leanding his head down and blowing at her ear, he chuckled and flicked his tail to purposely hit her in the back of her leg.
"Come on, lets gallop!" He chided, before with a bit of a kickstart jumped over the cerulean and ivory filly; of course not going fast enough so she would have difficulties catching and keeping up, bit enough that she'd need to hurry if she didn't want to be left behind.
"I bet your father can still beat you there!" He called back, today would be a fun game day; he'd make sure of it.

The little filly's eyes went wide as her father mentioned a secret. Ooooh! She'd keep it safe from her rough'n'tumble brothers - this could be something just she and Twilight would know. Giggling softly, the little ice touched nodded firmly as she followed her father in to the woods. "J-j-just our secret," she agreed, aqua eyes full of mirth. "It'll b-b-be safe with me!" That much her father could be sure.
Zevach and Marius would never, ever know about this place. Not until they learned how to be gentle.
Part of the little filly wondered where exactly they were going. What might they discover? Would there be flowers and water? Or would it be in a cave with crystals? What about an open field with the greenest and lushest grass a soquili could imagine? The girls imagination began to overwhelm her as they trotted.
Twilight could take her anywhere, but no matter what, she had faith that this 'secret' place would be amazing. Even if it were no more special than the woods they walked together in now, Eponine would believe it to be the greatest slice of land. She adored her family and absolutely loved her parents - they could do no wrong. Thus, her father sparing a few moments made her heart soar. Ever since she started growing it seemed as if her family had begun to drift. . . . They were close, but Eponine found herself drifting away longer and longer from home. Was that how things were supposed to happen?
Idle thoughts were interrupted as a shadow passed over her small form and something blew in her ear. A squeal suddenly erupted for the filly as she ducked her head and pawed at the side of her face, giggling and squirming a little bit underneath her father. That tickled!! Turning her head up, she nipped gently at her father in slight reprimand, her ear still twitching to get true sensation back. Before she had a chance to verbalize her objections, he encouraged her to gallop and for this to become a bit of a race.
Stopping in her tracks as he leaped over her, the girl swished her fluffy tail and pawed at the ground. If it was a race he wanted than it was a race he'd get! "Oh ho! I th-th-think not!" She repeated, puffing out her chest in pride. Smile blossoming amongst her features, the little blue and white filly bolted after her feather. She'd show him who was fast! . . . even if she didn't really know where they were going.

This was life.
To be happy and fufilled with his foals, living each day in the happiness he felt and could only get in such a way that his family provided for him. To not live in the dark clutches of his mentality of darkness...of course he wasn't able to fully get rid of it yet for the meantime it would have to seem that Twilight would need to concentrate on the good and keep the bad for when he need not worry of the worried eyes which watched him. Last thing he would ever want would be to get one of his children involved in seeing him in his weakened and delirious state.
The shame he already was living through would be tripled for sure.
Through the forest and around the trees they wove; across the moist grass and through a stream or two. Slowly but surely the forest was getting thicker and thicker, as Twilight was forced to slow down his pace least he shouldered a tree or bush. Pausing for a moment and looking behind him to his daughter; the stallion smiled warmly with an affectionate look in his eyes. Sure; Eponine may have not had the looks that her brothers had to make them look like their parents; but he figured that she had all of the colours - and that made her even more special to be different.
"Come on, Eppie. Its right on ahead my lovely...." Nudging the filly infront of him; he motioned to a small cave up ahead with a grin stretched on his lips. The little race quickly forgotten, he followed his daughter into the cave...he could remember this cave since the days of his youth when he used to evade the watchful eye of his father.
"Eponine....have you ever seen fireflies before?" The stallion paused inside the cave once the darkness had set in around them. Looking curiously to her; he tilted his head and waited for an answer.

((Wow - it's only taken me months to dig this RP up. So sorry. T__T ))
Eponing paused as she entered the cave, a little unsure about what might be in the darkness. Her little white tail swished back and forth, but with her father close she knew there was absolutely nothing to fear. Blue eyes brightening, she finally took a few steps in to the darkness, looking around in wonder as if the big secret might very well be made up of shadow. Her little hooves took her closer to her father's side, and she made sure to brush against his legs in attempt to find comfort. She wouldn't admit to being afraid of the dark, but this was a cave she'd never been to before, and it was awfully dark and hard to see.
Thankfully though, her eyes slowly adjusted to the change of light. She could pick out her father's form as well as a few larger rocks; but the deeper they'd walk, the more difficult it would be to see. If they were lucky, they wouldn't have to go too deep.
Ears twiching, the little filly gave a shake of her head. "F-f-fireflys?" She frowned and gave a little snort, pawing at the ground. Unfortunately for her, she forgot she was now standing within a stony cave, and the loud click of her hoof echoed down the cavern made her jump. Still, giggles followed her momentary scare, and she bumped Twilights leg with her nose playfully. "I don't th-th-think so. . . Sh-sh-should I have?" She almost cringed, unsure whether or not her father might be disappointed at the answer.
Fireflies. . . . She wracked her memory and came up short. No - she definitely would have remembered seeing any sort of fly that was on fire! And as far as she could tell, she'd seen nothing of the sort.
((And it's short too. I fail. Even more. ))
