And NO, I did not snipe the above image from Grant Wood, the sneaky sonofabitch built a time machine and went to the future to steal it from ME and then took it back to his time and stole the fame! "Hush little monsters, don't say a word, and Moma might kill you a mockingbird, For if that mocking bird doesn't shut up, He'll soon find himself beat-en and cut up."
Diabetia hummed to herself as she watched the annoying bird take a hint from her tune and scram. It was a good thing too, because she had had enough of its obnoxious chirping for one afternoon.
At her feet lay three quiet baskets, not a peep or motion coming from a one of them. No doubt the little creatures lurking within had overheard their Mother and thought it wise to stop any whining or wiggling before they even began.
This parenting thing isn't very hard to do at all, she mused to herself, stretching out her back and legs. She had birthed them early that same morning, and her body was definitely still showing signs of the discomforts of pregnancy. But she had gone through it once, and knew what was to be expected. Not that it really mattered... she was tough. She could handle anything!

Wincing, the large mutant made his way deeper into the forest, returning to the spot where he had left Diabetia earlier that morning. What was that horrible noise? It seemed to be coming from her direction... was she giving birth already?
Shaking his head, he was pleased when the music-y horror had finally stopped, and his slow form finally reached her temporary living area. And there stood Diabetia, standing as prissy as she normally would, only she had three baskets lying at her feet. The baskets she had demanded him to retrieve, for she wanted to start the foals off in the same environment as he had with the original three offspring, but in the end had to waddle off and find herself, seeing as Plague didn't do a thing for anyone but himself.
Approaching the four, he shook his head, his tangled and matted mane shedding long black hair along the way. "I take it you've found your lunch then, Sweetness? For I don't know of anything else that could squeal so horribly unless they were in the process of being devoured."

Her head rose at the sound of his voice, and she shot him a glare. Ignoring his comment (for if she told him what she truly had been doing, the mockery would only get worse), she leaned down, motioning towards the trio of baskets.
"Your new rivals, Plague."

His eyes narrowed at her comment, but he quickly shrugged it off, as he did much of what she had ever said to him.
"Why Sweetness, they're still... uneaten?" he questioned, feigning mock surprise, "I'm so proud of you! And here I thought you'd have gone and devoured the little bastards by now... I take it you're saving them for a snack later on in the evening?"

She snorted and leaned down to nuzzle against one of the baskets.
Keeping her voice low, but yet still audible enough for the approaching mutant to hear, she whispered, "Do you hear that voice, darlings? That's the voice of the stallion that one of you will kill when you grow up... yes, one of you will murder him and make your Moma a very proud mare indeed!"
Her eyes never having left the stallion, she gave him a wide grin.

He scowled and stopped in his walk as he arrived at the four of them.
"And tell me again what's preventing me from stomping out all three of them... and then you?"
His eyes narrowed further, and he gave another snort. Over the weeks her pregnancy had been developing, so had his body, and he had grown far more stronger from the weakened state his son had left him in after their fight.

"Oh come now, Plague!" She smirked, rising back up to stand face to face at him. "You're not afraid of three little foals, are you? The big bad mutant scared of three defenseless little babes..... what a sight you are."
Still grinning, she stepped over the baskets and drew closer to him. Within inches of his face now, she turned and motioned back towards the baskets.
"Aren't you even the least bit curious as to what genders they are? Some Father you are!" she snickered.

"Why should it matter, if they're only going to be killed off within a few days anyhow? Being you as their mother, I've no doubt you'll quickly forget you even have them and leave them lying around somewhere for some other scavenger to find and devour."
It still amused him that she insisted on playing this "Mother" game of hers... when would she ever learn that her place was following after him? After all, the only thing she could do well was look pretty. But he would let her continue playing on in this little charade of hers. She'd learn soon enough she wasn't capable of handling the task she had set out to accomplish.

"Well we'll see about that," she replied haughtily, her wings twitching as she grew further annoyed with his attitude. Of course he was worried about the foals.. the fool was scared to death they'd turn into the bastards he already had created! Creatures that he had created and had taken him down. Let him be scared.. she'd give him something to be scared over.
"For your information, you now have two fillies and one colt to add to the legion against you." She paused, then mused to herself, "Legion... I like that."
Shaking her head, she dismissed the thought. Names would come later; the important thing now was to rub the fact into Plague that she was about to show him up... to surpass him in a task that even he had failed in.

"Legion?" he asked, not holding back the laughter building up within him. "You may as well name the other two Princess and Pinky, while you're at it!"
Still laughing, he passed her and he himself leaned down towards the baskets. "Listen well, for I'm only going to tell you once. When you get old enough to walk on all four legs, I suggest you run. For no good will come if you stay behind with this fluff of a mare, and you'll only follow in her footsteps and fall short, just as she does."
Smirking, he rose and turned back to the candy kalona, his hollow eyes gleaming with humor. "Good luck with your... training, Sweetness. I'll be interested to see what disasters you make of this breeding."
Ruffling his own feathers, he let off a few low chuckles as he made his way back out of the clearing and into the forest. There was no point in him staying with them, especially with the little bastards around. He had already raised three before, and was not about to do it again anytime soon.

It was her turn to scowl, and she silently continued her glaring as she watched him laugh and wander off to do his own bidding. The b*****d. Well, she would show him. All four of them would show him.
Smiling, she allowed that thought to settle in her mind, and she moved back to crouch down and lay beside her baskets. Now if the little buggers would just hurry and grow up, she could start her own little Dia army. Yes... she would teach them what she knew, and they'd become stronger. Yet, unlike the first three, they'd learn to respect and would never betray Mother dearest.
Content for the moment, she rested her head on the soft grass beneath her and closed her eyes. What wonderful surprises they had in store for them....
