being a jazz bassist who mostly plays acoustic jazz duo with guitarist, should i buy this bass? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Godin-A4-SemiAcoustic-Fretless-Bass?sku=512606 i play some electric i guess so i feel this bass would be great for both worlds. if anyone has played/owned this, does it have a good jazz sound? is it decently loud acoustically/?
if no, what acoustic/semi acoustic basses are better for jazz?

for that price get a music man sting ray. They are pritty good from jazz so I hear, you can get a little combo amp probably from fender or some thing, which is not usually a brand I recomend, but for jazz I think it would work. That's what I would do, or you could get one of those awsomely kick a** standup basses.

man,you can just get a bass with non-magnetic pick ups.It makes it sound like your playing an acoustic but you can make it louder, man.Or as a saw on a video on youtube.

Drac Nolam man,you can just get a bass with non-magnetic pick ups.It makes it sound like your playing an acoustic but you can make it louder, man.Or as a saw on a video on youtube. its not the sound of the acoustic that i adore, even though i do like it better, its the feel, the sensation and thought of an acoustic, a big hollow chest sitting inmy lap, resonating to a glorious tune.

I don't know any thing about accustic basses, I just recently learned they exist.

Maybe a semi hallow, but then yeah I understand the love for accustics too, though all guitars solid and accusutic resonate. though solid bodies a hell of a lot less.

In my opinion, hollow & semi hollow basses dont sound very good. For jazz I'd definatly recommend a Fender Jazz bass. I own one & it has an amazing tone.
