Deidre Dominique Rae had dropped from the sky and absolutely destroyed the Parentals motorcycle. Kian had thought it rather ironic. First, there was him and then, as he was reaching adult hood for yet the second time, another of them came tumbling down the earth and into the family.
It was Parentals first 'grandchild' and Kian had been endowed with a new title. 'Uncle'. According to Iamel, it meant he was responsible for feeding the small creature sugar, getting her drunk when she hit adult hood and to overall make sure she had more fun with him then with her father. He didn't mind the duty - or the title - overmuch. It was simply difficult to keep taking a child with him.
The females at the pool liked her well enough. Instead of doing his regular laps when she was with him, he would stand in the shallow end and teach the girl to swim. Her being bald aided her underwater movement and she seemed to like the water. There was no fat on her so she wasn't the most boyant of children.... The females often crowded around him, cooing and making other soft feminine noises. Often, they would touch Kian and ask him questions about the girl. It was unnerving to have so many so close but the alien dealt with it.
Still. Kian didn't mind her. Even when she clung to his arm like she was now and squeaked as his arms swung cheerfully at his side. She could cling like nothing he had seen before, strong little fingers digging into the muscles and flesh of his arm, one rounded cheek pressed close. Even her toes clung to him, leg muscles taunt. DDR was a quiet child. Kian appreciated that. Too often did his younger siblings wake him with their screaming.
"This is the Unit, Dee." It was easier, calling her that. His other hand moved to gently pry her off of him and she complied, obediantly tumbling into his arms. One of Kians arms wrapped around her middle to press her back into his chest as his free hand opened the door to the Units home.
The last time he had been here, it had been with Lissel.

Since... well... since...
Nevermind that.
Enough to say that of late, Autsu had been training harder than ever, putting in hours every day at the unit, dancing at knife point with Avrin, pushing himself to be better, to not only have his body, but to own it, to own its every movement. There was a grace to him now, what would be called confidence if that confidence hadn't been so recently cut away. He walked with the air of one hunted, haunted, but not as if he were afraid. More like he was waiting to kick the s**t out of whatever he thought was after him.
At the moment, he wore only a pair of jeans, and his black skin and short blue hair was soaked with sweat. There was a shallow red slash across his chest, which dripped blood fitfully. He came in from the back, clearly headed toward the kitchen. Clear cool water... that was what he needed.
And then... Kian. The boy/man literally stopped in his tracks and stared across at his friend. And an infant?
Emotions struggled across his face, until, at last, he found joy.
"Comrade! I am glad to see you." He was, at the moment, feeling good for the most part. Exhaustion relaxed him.

Kian looked up from the child when he heard the door from the back opening and shutting once more. His third eye was mainly trained to the front while his two main eyes were on Dee. All three moved to Autsu when he saw him.
As Autsu did, Kian faltered in whatever it was he was going to do. He wasn't sure what it was, at the moment. it had probably been something important, like look around the home once more. You could never be too careful.
But there was Tsu. The other teen was standing in front of him and... Bleeding? Eyebrows rose at the sight of the slash but, used to violence and seeing that Autsu was hardly worried, a small smile instead pulled at the edges of his mouth.
"Tsu." Kian greeted, shifting Dee from one arm to the other. She was staring at Autsu with those wide eyes, twisting into Kians frame in an attempt to hide from the odd looking, conflicted older man. He was strange. "I am glad to see you as well. It has been a while. You altered your hair."

"And you obtained a child." It was phrased as a statement, but none the less, there was a space there, an invitation for Kian to give him some information about the unusual girl. He knew his friend had many siblings but he'd never seen him carry them with him before.
Considering the other a moment more, he managed to regain his former pace, his former path. "I am bleeding on the floor," he explained, as he passed through the open doorway into the other room.
He needed a moment, a chance to deal with this... change in the pattern of his day.
As he poured himself a glass of water and held a washrag to his chest, he called back over his shoulder toward his friend, "Would you like anything comrade? For yourself, or the infant."
So, Kian was here. Of course he was. This was his place too. It had not been too long since they'd last seen each other. But it'd been long enough. Things had changed. And he had no way to tell his ally of those changes. Somehow, this dishonesty seemed more of a betrayal than the mere secret of his attraction.

"Her name is Deidre Dominique Rae. I call her Dee. Sibling calls her DDR, after a video game apparently." Broad shoulders rose and fell into a shrug as he twisted, followed Autsu into the kitchen. "She is one of us, Tsu. She fell in a pod, with a picture inside, and demolished my Parentals motorcycle."
Another wry smile, the briefest of pullings of his lips, as Kian remembered his fathers expression. "But she is one of us, none the same. What did you do to yourself, comrade?"
DDR was shifted to his hip, as a baby shouldn't be put on the counter as he almost did, and Kian reached out to pull the washrag briefly from Autsus chest to eye the cut critically. Shallow but done in such a manner to where he was still dripping blood despite the pressure.
The alien girl chewed at one of her thin lips, still curled as she stared at Autsu. Her fingers, only four digits on each hand, flexed and mussed with her own little skirt and top. She remained silent. Always, she remained silent.
"There is alcohol we should put on that, 'Tsu. Infection can cripple."

"Avrin and I were sparring. He is... much better than I." A sigh there, perhaps of frustration. He so wanted to get the better of the other man, but as yet, he was only finding new versions of defeat. "It is only a cut, but if you think there is a need for treatment..." He inclined his head, indicating his willingness to incline.
Having Kian's fingers so near his chest brought goosebumps to his flesh. He could only hope the boy wouldn't notice. Perhaps he could somehow blame the cut.
Lifting his eyes, he trained his attention on the girl. Now, labeled as one of them, she was of greater interest. It was not that Autsu disliked those who were not criminals, he simply felt no obligation to them. As a criminal, Dee claimed a part of him, demanded a level of his protection. "It is good for her, and us. Now we need not hunt her, and she will be among those who understand."
A moment, "Hello, ally. Though I do not think you speak the language yet. I did not."
He did not, of course, talk to her as a child. He knew clearly enough that a grown mind likely labored behind her gaze.

"Watch the girl. She does not move, much." Kian set the infant on the counter where, miraculously, she managed to balance herself to keep standing. Three fingers were shoved in her mouth to muffle a small squeak as Kian slipped away from Autsu, headed to the rest room.
Hello? She knew that word. Hi. Hello. Yo. All were said when one member of a family was greeting the other. At least... What she had heard. Dee was smarter then her older, alien sibling. She listened, instead of screamed. She watched, instead of throwing a tantrum of her own state.
DDR was used to being trapped in situations she had no control over. This was no different... Except now she was an infant. The fingers drew back from her wide mouth slowly, flexing her fingers in a greeting to him.
Dee was smart enough to keep her fingers away from the teeth. So instead, she greeted.
That was when Kian re-entered, a new cloth in his hand and a small bottle of ... something. He knew what it was, what it did, but the name escaped him and the word was too long for him to bother. "See?" He said distantly, putting it down long enough to peel the cloth from his allys chest. "She does not move much, although I do not like leaving her alone."
The bottle was uncapped and a small amount of liquid was poured onto the cloth. Kians hand rose to press against his chest, his two main eyes looking up at his friend. "This will hurt, Tsu. But it will keep you from getting more hurt." With that, the liquid-saturated cloth was patted onto the others wound. It would cause a sharp, stinging sensation, as alcohol so often did.
"I have missed speaking with you, comrade. Things get boring."

A response. That surprised Autsu. He had not been so clever as to quickly understand his father's words. And perhaps it had not helped that his was a family prone to much silence. It showed cleverness in this one, and that was a good sign. Still, her stillness was almost strange. He remembered his own second infanthood. He had bee filled with anger, raging in any way he could. This silence, maybe it too was a sign of intelligence.
Kian's return pulled his attention away from the young girl, back to matters of more immediate concern. He did not pull away when Kian tended to the wound, though he did let his breath escape in a brief hiss at the stinging. Unpleasant, but needed for healing. Similar to many things. And yet, he'd discovered, not all pain healed. Sometimes, it just hurt.
"It seems you have not been without excitement." The shirtless teen responded, with a sideways glance toward Dee. "She is a bright one. You brought her here to see the Unit, then?"
Pulling back from his friend, in what he hoped was a natural movement, he took a step back toward the living room. "We are done in here, yes?"

"Excitement..." Kian hesitated, capping the bottle and throwing throwing the cloth into the sink. He would take care of that later and instead of touching Autsu again, the alien scooped up the girl. SHe curled against him,s taring still at Autsu.
My, he was a strange one.
"I suppose it could be called that. Preoccupation. She is not so exciting. Interesting, yes." A brief nod and Kian slipped past his friend, padding slowly into the living room. "I thought Lissel might be here, might enjoy the company of a little thing. But.."
Another hesitation. Kian didn't usually fumble with his words like this. He was supposed to be articulate. A leader.
"Comrade, you did not tell me she vibrates with emotions." It could have been an accusation, had it been said in anything other then Kians normal monotone. Kian didn't turn to look at Autsus face as he spoke, settling down on the arm of a couch. It kept his tail comfortable, yet it was a seat. "It came as a shock. And what of you, Tsu? You look like hell."

Like Kian, Autsu chose to perch instead of sitting on the couch in the normal manner. For his part, he sat on the back, his wings half open, his feet on the couch cushions. "I am sorry comrade. It did not seem fair to expose her... difficulties. I did not realize it would upset you."
He had not been particularly disturbed by her strangeness. It was not hate she emitted, or any other darkness. She had felt calming to him, comforting.
As too his looks... well...
He ran his fingers roughly through his short hair, tugging at the ends. Did he look so bad as that? He had not payed much attention to his appearance of late, more interested in building strength than keeping groomed. And he had not been sleeping over well, though it was not sleep that bothered him, only the moments that lead up to it. The silence left too much time for him to think.
Narin had said to wait... wait... and now he was left wondering, 'how long?' If his lover was truly coming for him, as he said he was... then how could he do anything but wait on edge, for that moment when he arrived? And what would he do when he did?
"It has been... I have been preoccupied." How on earth could he explain? He couldn't. "And training. I am getting better, though I'm still not as strong as I could be."

"It didn't upset me. Not in the way you are thinking of it. Apparently, I have more emotions then I thought I did. And now they have names." He almost sounded amused, snorting quietly and giving a brief shake of his head. "Do not apologize. It had to happen sooner or later."
Kian simply.. watched the other. Autsu was interesting to watch when he was pondering. The other did many things he was unaware of and it spoke volumes more then the solider thought it ever would.
"You were able to ground me, remember? Besides, I was not speaking of your hair. It looks very nice. You have a nice face. It should not be covered. But your eyes. I have dark skin as well, friend. I know what the signs of tiredness are, even on you. You have not been sleping." Not a question. It was merely filling the silence Autsu had created.
Kian leaned back a bit, letting Dee explore the area. Her idea of exploring was to rub her fingers on his pants, squirming slightly and looking around the room with those large cat eyes. She liked to touch things and pet at them. That, he was sure, she would explore more when she reached the age where she could actually walk.
"Are the nightmares back, Autsu?" His question was mild now, one eye moving to the small girl on his leg. "You cannot reach your full potential if you are not sleeping enough. Are you eating enough? Otherwise, your body will start to shut down and then I am afraid I would have to punch you for doing that to yourself, my friend."

Autsu lifted his pale blue eyebrows at Kian's gentle scolding. Was this what he was staying here for? To be nannied by his allies? Certainly, no one at home had acted in concern for him, not really. But then, he was a soldier, and they had known better.
Did that mean he didn't like it?
What did it mean that he had to ask himself what he liked?
God, he was tired.
"I have not wished to sleep much, lately. It is not dreams only..." His wings rustled as he tried to find words he was comfortable with using. "That I do not seem to be able to tire myself out enough."
This was true. He was trying to make himself so tired that he simply passed out, without all the uncomfortable drifting of thoughts that came before true sleep. Many of those thoughts were about Kian. Did his friend knew what a problem represented?
Probably not. Autsu was barely able to conceptualize it himself.
"You should come and sing me to sleep, if you are so concerned." A slight smile, the expression of someone playing with fire.

Kian paused. Those last words were something the others had not been, could not have been. The look on his allies face meant he wasn't wrong in his assumption that it meant something other then what it meant.
Right?
Humans called it reading in between the lines. To stop taking things so literal. To...
"Prehaps I will." He agreed then, straight faced, eyebrows quirking towards his hairline. "But as a warning, Tsu, I sleep in the nude. I doubt your garments would fit me, now."
Playing with fire, indeed.
As for Dee? She was on the couch, petting at the cushions with wide-eyed wonder. This was new. A lovely fabric! And yet... They were sitting on it. How sad.

The word Autsu wanted here was <********>. But that word, untaught to him, and therefore unavailable, did not come to the fore of his mind. So he thought in his first language, a string of curses at the image conjured here.
Play with fire, and burn. Gods could be burn. Kian hadn't always been good at this game. Not intentionally. What had changed?
Absently, he reached down to brush his fingers over Dee's bald scalp, the motion intended to be affectionate, but also to fill the space where no words would come.
"You heathen." Well, why not, if this was the game they had decided to play with each other. "My father keeps the house cold, comrade. You will regret your lack of sleepware."
There was, of course, an expected next step here. And it was Kian's turn to walk. Would he go there? Did Autsu want to know the answer to that?

"I am not so sure." His voice was musing, all three eyes being cast down to the infant. She had paused when those fingers brushed against her head and tilted that skull back to peer at Autsu.
Instead of screaming, as Kian would have, her lips peeled apart in a rather pleasent smile. It would have been cute, if it werent for the fact her mouth was a little too wide for her face and her teeth weren't razor sharp.
Then she looked back at the cushions and kept on petting. The colors were stunning to her. She would have to make sure to get some clothes, like that. The adults conversation made no sense to her. There was tension there... But it wasn't violent. If there was no violence, it was of no concern to her.
Kian twisted so he was no longer straddling the arm of the couch and instead, facing Autsu, his head cocking to the side. "I am not so sure, comrade." The repeated words were said with a little smile, fleeting. Yet, it had been there.
"Last I remember, you were really quite warm."
