Thomas stood over the front desk of the magic laboratory, rubbing at his eyes with a heavy, drawn out sigh. Five private lessons to run. It was part of the job requirement and he couldn’t rightly say he was incapable of doing them. He was obviously tired, fresh out of the hospital. He had a few things set up to use as props for the lesson. A small set of weights, a large ‘hamster wheel’, and a pile of rocks.

A quiet student… one that seemed relatively unpainted about himself, about the students around him, or really…about anything. It wasn’t easy to teach a student with those kind of motives. Detached…it could turn dangerous as well. Either way, this was his job. Perhaps the class would make a small difference and keep the boy in line.

Ter slithered along into the classroom, looking around as he did so as if he'd expected almost for there to be someone else standing at the head of the class. His eyes widened a bit and then he gave a fanged smile, "Hey, so you made it?" He said, moving along to where he figured he was supposed to take a seat.

This meant then that he must be getting his grade for the last class session. He wasn't sure how enthusiastic he was about this magic stuff, funner to get to learn the whole swords thing. When it came down to it though he figured that this was something he had to do and couldnted get out of. He'd tried and his father had all but walked with his to the classroom. Ter had given in a hall away not wanting his 'Daddy' to be walking him into the room.

Baroness gave a lazy yawn, looking at the weird props before she laid down at Ter's feet her tail lashing. She was here to make sure that her boy paid attention! After all he had to study hard, pratice hard! She had to make sure he was on top of his game so that he beat Chath in their next sparring match so she would win the bet she made with Keir.

“Indeed.” Was the teacher’s short answer. He didn’t want to go into it. The whole affair was messy and embarrassing beyond words.

“Get yourself situated… I have quite a bit more to cover than normal so we’ll have to make due.” He motioned to the desk provided, “First of all, let me explain your magic type. You were selected as a student of the body magic. This means that your primary strength in enchantment is enhancing what’s already there. Physical strength, speed, dexterity, and endurance. All of which are influenced by chemicals that our bodies naturally produce. The majority of this class is to learn how to force your body into creating more of these chemicals and focusing them into the correct areas to enhance what it is you’re seeking to enhance. Do you follow?”

"Thats good, my brother would have mourned." He said in a bored tone, why Ligeia liked the guy so much he would never know...

Ter sat down in the provided down, coils shifting and moving to gather themselves as much under the desk as they could and the rest out of the way. He found himself listening to the teacher's voice given there wasn't really anything distracting in the classroom to let his mind wander too... but he was soon glad he did. He even perked up a bit, woah... hold on.

"Enhancing all that? Magic can really do that?" He sounded... shocked. And here he'd figured all it was good for was doing tricks like Ligeia did but to hear that it could be used to make him better at fighting. Now he felt a bit more like giving the class as much effort as he did his battle classes.

"Indeed." Thomas stepped away from the desk once more. "Every form of magic is fueled by the power of the spellcaster's will. The more you want something, the more possible it is for you to obtain it. Many people lack the drive. The notion of testing the limits of your own will is an ideal that is normally dismissed, hence why few actually manage magic."

He moved to the desk, reaching down to hang onto one of the bottom legs. It was a solid wood desk, easily weighing quite a bit. There was a faint glow and a ripple that moved from his shoulder down into his hand. The desk was lifted up to one side, half of it moving completely off the ground. "Magic... is no idle thing. The tricks and displays you see are trick magic."

"Wouldn't that make it a bit dangerous?" He asked curiously. Surely there were people out there willing to take advantage of being able to will magic to do whatever they wanted. He gave a bit of a grin at the thought, he bet that would blow up in a persons face if they weren't careful.

He came out of his thoughts when his teacher, the same one that had fallen over last class, was suddenly lifting his desk up. The guy surely was confusing at times wasn't he? One moment Ter didn't like him in the least for some of the things he said and the next he did something that was impressive.

"So... if I want hard enough the magic would give me what I want then?" He kinda like the sound of that. That he could do things more useful then silly tricks like his brother did, no freezing things for him it was all about strength and speed, things that actually mattered.

"Not what you want." Thomas said sharply, dropping the desk with a loud 'thud'. Loud enough to perhaps amplify his point. "Boy, do not think for a moment that magic is made to make you great. You're great through -why- you do what you do, not how you do them."

He lifted up his arm, and slowly let the construct spell fade for a moment. Ter would see that the teacher was actually missing much of his lower arm on one side. "This...is what happens when you take advantage of a gift, boy. Carelessness will only cost you. Understand that."

Ter flicked out his tongue when the teacher dropped the desk, "Your the one that said the more you want it the easier it is to obtain it." He was getting a bit confused... So you had to want for for it to work but it didn't give you want you wanted...? This class was making him think a lot harder then he normally would and that was rather... his line of thought ended abruptly as he watched the teacher's arm disappear.

"Well... damn..." He muttered, that was mildly disturbing and somehow cool all rolled into one he thought to himself.

Carelessness will cost him? "Yeah, but I could lose an arm just as easily learning to wield a blade in melee classes right? Doesn't mean I don't want to learn that." And getting into fights without thinking got a person beat up... and there were a half dozen other things he could think of that didn't go so well when he didn't look before he leapt but he had been lucky so far.

"So how'd you lose the arm?" He asked, curious about what the teacher had been reaching for.

Thomas' expression remain unchanged. Hard, focused, almost dark. "That...is none of your buisness."

Few knew exactly how or why he'd lost his arm, even fewer knew that it wasn't only his arm he'd left behind from his own person either. It served as a decent enough example and a powerful scare tactic against carelessness.

"The more you want your abilities to work...the more you concentrate the power of your own will into performing a task, the easier it will be. However... wanting yourself to accomplish an ability and using your ability to get what you want are two very different things...do you understand?"

Ter gave a shrug, "Eh, probably not." He agreed, didn't mean that he wasn't a bit curious. The teacher's expression clearly read that he wasn't going to say what had happened to it so Ter figured pushing the issue was a waste of both their time.

The end of Ter's coil flicked back and forth, tongue flicked out to run over his two lips piercings and he thought on it for a moment, "Yeah... I think I get it." He said after a moment, "This is one of those using your powers for good not evil things isn't it?"

A bit boring at first glance but he supposed he could try it.

“Indeed…”, Thom’s eyes narrowed a bit, “I should have you know that I have taken it upon myself to put a stop to any of my students that uses what I teach for evil… I will not repeat myself.”

He cleared his throat, a pretty clear sign that he was moving on. “Now… close your eyes and begin to focus… since you’re lacking legs we’ll have you test your strength first. I want you to be able to lift your desk over your head. It’s solid oak so it’s nothing light I’ll have you remember. First you need to find your pulse, trace that to your heart and feel the flow between your heart and the limbs that you’ll be needing to accomplish this. When you’ve recognized this flow let me now and we’ll continue.”

Ter starred at the teacher for a moment, yellow eyes rather wide. Hey... wait a second... was the teacher threatening him? He shook his head before he looked at the desk. Lifting up the desk, huh? That could be interesting he decided before he set to trying to find and follow his pulse...

It took him a moment to figure out exactly what he was looking for and then when he was sure he found it he gave a nod, "Ok." He didn't say anything more as he didn't want to loose track of the flow.

"Focus on that...make it your world your everything. All there is in your awareness is that feeling. Tighten on it, focus on it more and direct it. To lift the desk focus on the process of lifting it. First in your hands, then down to your shoulders and elbows, into your back and into your tail. Concentrate on flowing that energy between these points as they come." Thomas instructed sharply, closing out the boy's senses down to hearing. He'd only hear Thomas' voice, only feel the flow, smell.

Make it his entire world Ter thought to himself as he concentrated, working on focusing on the feeling as it moved through him, following it from point to point to point as the teacher instructed. He then shifted his coils so that he could get a better brace before he tried to lift the desk as he was told too.

"Good good... remain calm." Thomas instructed calmly, "Only focus lightly on your task. You must first make the control of that flow second nature..."
