Thomas stood over the front desk of the magic laboratory, rubbing at his eyes with a heavy, drawn out sigh. Five private lessons to run. It was part of the job requirement and he couldn’t rightly say he was incapable of doing them. He was obviously tired, fresh out of the hospital. He had a few things set up to use as props for the lesson. A small set of weights, a large ‘hamster wheel’, and a pile of rocks.

He turned himself towards the doorway, watching for Zyan. The little mantis girl… This should be interesting. She had a bit of an attitude.

Zyanya came into the room with a saunter to match that attitude that Thomas had expected. She was still furious at Ter, so her normally seductive and flirty manner was replaced with a slow and simmering rage. The sheer fact she was required to come back to this class was nerve wracking.

Thomas could read her mind, it had been too embarrassing to bear. The fact she had laid his head on her lap to help stabilize him while he was unconscious...she wondered if he knew that part, but certainly after he read her mind he would know. Her face flushed crimson at the thought. But as she stepped into the room she felt her embarrassment give way to a cold fear the crept into her body.

That white hair...startling eyes. Yes he was a man to be reckoned with, she couldn't help but adore at the same time as fear him. Steeling herself she tried to refocus her mind. She was here to learn magic from this man, not be interrogated and mind probed. She had to remain focused!

"Out of the hospital already?" she asked not bothering to greet him as she knew he could figure out her false intentions with one mind probe. The only reason she bothered to be nice was to get a better grade. If he knew all her 'niceness' was false then there wasn't any point.

Hinder ad followed his girl despite her being rather moody. He Didn't want to be left out, and after finding out about what the teacher could do he wanted to see it for himself.

Thomas glanced over towards the doorway as she entered, locking eyes with her right away. She'd feel something activate in the back of her mind. It wasn't nearly as extreme as the first time he'd established a link between them. Now it was simple as re-activating it. Kind of like flipping on a lightswitch once the wiring was already installed. She'd know that he could see into her thoughts once more. Nothing was hidden, everything exposed- so it was best to stay focused.

"Indeed." Was his short response to her question concerning his time in the hospital.

"Are you ready for your lesson? I do hope you have been reviewing what you learned." Though..he had a bit mroe to cover seeing as much of the lesson was lost to his... accident.

Zyanya's eyes narrowed as she felt the 'link' reopen. Crossing her arms over her chest she gave the man a scrutinizing look.

"You passed out in class before you were able to give me much detail about my type of magic other than what you showed us." she concluded meaning she had thought on the subject but other than that she hand't any material to really go off of. Her brother used a different type of magic...so he had been useless.

"All I know is I want to be faster, my accuracy is near perfect but i lack the killing speed needed to make it effective." she said looking the teacher over.

Thomas ignored the first statement. It wasn’t his fault he passed out and he’d really rather not have it brought up anymore. Though he could imagine it was becoming somewhat of a hot topic with the students involved and their guardians.

“Yes, I’m afraid I did not get the opportunity to instruct you on the aspects of each branch of magic. You’re of the body so you need not waste time learning about the other two unless you wish to continue your education with me later.”

He motioned for her to take a seat. “The magic of the body is enhancing what’s already naturally there, so becoming quicker is very well in the realm of what you are capable of. It takes a great deal of focus to actually accomplish even a slight increase to an aspect of your physical being. For instance, if you want to lift this desk you must focus on what’s required to do so. Strength of your arms, of course, then of your back, then of your legs. One slowly moving to the other. You must concentrate on channeling your energy to the areas of your body that are needed to accomplish the task. So if you grab the desk and lift, first channel to your arms, then quickly down your shoulder into your back and legs. Lifting a desk is a bit of an extreme example. For running you simply need to increase the rate in which your legs can move, focus on your joints. In your knees, ankles, and hips.”

He paused. “Are you following well enough?”

Taking the seat mainly cause she was tired of standing she listened to him her eyes locked on him. She couldn't help it, despite her fear of him the sheer fact he was so handsome and dangerous made it hard for her to look away. She shifted uncomfortably remembering why she was afraid of him in the first place and was once more annoyed with herself.

"SO in essence I just have to focus on making certain aspects of my body move faster to make the magic work?" she questioned wanting to make sure she understood what he meant. "Wouldn't you be putting your body under a lot of stress doing that? couldn't you strain something?" she asked for though she had the bad girl image, and was flaky when it came to relationships and friends she was still an intelligent girl when it came down to it.

"Indeed. That is why this magic, like any other type of magic, is not designed for constant use. If it were then there would be people zipping around, lifting buildings, and other such nonsense. Magic is not a toy, it is a tool to be used for only good. Before performing any form of magic you must consider the good and evil of what may follow through your actions." He pointed to her, his eyes narrowing, "This is the very first and most important law of magic...."

"To any regard, your mastery of this form of magic largely depends on two factors. The strength of your will and how much your body can take. You are more delicate, I do not imagine your strength is in lifting or pulling much...but running. I can see where that might come to your advantage."

Zyanya listened and didn't bother to nod her head to show she understood. If he could read her mind then he already knew. As he pointed at her she wondered if he was trying to imply that she may be evil. She didn't consider herself evil, but she certianly wasn't a goody goody like her brother.

He touched a sore spot when he mentioned the very fact that no...she wasn't very strong physically. her advantage came from speed and her precision. A well placed blow with one of her legs could probably harm a person severely. She had never tried it though. Only with spearing fruit. . .

"So strength of will? How do you manifest that exactly into a magical form? Do you have to say incantations or something?" she asked shifting in her chair uncomfertably.

"First...let's address your concern."

Thomas sighed a bit. Strength was hardly measured by how many muscles someone had or their ability to smash things. "In speed there is great strenth. The faster you move, the more force is behind your blow. The stronger fighter does not always win. It's speed. Speed of hand, speed of mind. Take in your opponent, move away from their attacks, study them as you move-- and when the moment is right you strike. Quickly, precicely..." He eyed her a bit. "In one quick and precise move, you can fell an opponent while they spend all their energy thrashing and failing around. There is no weakness in speed, do not be discouraged."

He continued after a pause, letting that sink in. "There is nothing to speak out loud. The practice of magic is completely driven by the willpower of the weilder. In all actuality, the natural ability to perform magic is within you already. You have to reconize it within yourself, dominate it, and take command. It's a battle of mind, body, and soul. You must reconize it- mind. It will drain you, so you must work with it like you would with any sword. Body. And finally, you must command it, bend it to your will. Soul."

Blinking her face flushed slightly in embarrassment. She never really understood why speed was greater than raw strength, now she did. She felt foolish in doubting her own abilities.

She pondered on how she was to recognize her own magical powers. Look inward?

"recognize, work with it...and command it.." she repeated softly, it sounded like a lot of work. Maybe the magic would come easily to her unlike her brother. She had seen him practice and practice like an idiot just to make a single water ball.

"So...I have..to find the power within myself first. Before the second or third step right? Should I close my eyes? Is there some feeling I am looking for?" she asked now sounding more interested than she had before.

"Close your eyes if you find that’s the best way to block out other distractions.” Thom nodded, “I can give you some help for this time around, once you recognize the ability and the flow of it through you, you can learn to build on that on your own. If you attempt to use your ability without first recognizing it, the results can be disastrous.”

He lifted his hand up a bit, pulling down his sleeve. The hand was suddenly gone. There was severe scarring along much of his arm that now faded into view. “This is what happens if you’re careless… I was lucky it was only a fraction of my being that suffered for my idiocy in my youth. I’d rather not have my students repeat my mistake.”

Eyes widening she leaned forward in interest. He must be a very tough teacher indeed to survive such a scarring event. She was easily impressed and her respect for Thomas increased somewhat. At least now she would actually take his warning to heart.

Nodding she leaned backwards somewhat and closed her eyes as she found that the easiest way to block out the distraction of Thomas himself.

"So..." she started not sure where to go now that her eyes were closed. Sitting up straight she took deep even breaths to try and settle her mind. She learned that from a martial arts movie she watched once. Though she didn't really understand the action, a lot of people tended to do that when trying to settle their thoughts or calm themselves down.

Thomas's eyes narrowed on her as she closed her eyes, "Sit upright. As soon as you feel the flow between your heart and your hands let me know. Concentrate on your pulse, your heartbeat first, feel the blood move through your body, right down to your fingertips."

He'd assist with her focus this time around, working into her subconcious and numbing out the senses of hearing, touch, and sight. There was nothing but the internal now.

When trying Zyan was a idle pupil. She was a smart girl, though she tended to let things take over and blind her as well. Things usually being boys, showing off, and trying to appear tough.

But with her eyes closed, the teacher no longer in her sight, she straighted her already straight back a bit more, sitting still like a stone or tree her breaths even and serene. It was strange, though it took a moment, she could feel her pulse, her own heart beat. She found it un-nerving and calming at the same time.

Now where we her hands? Mentally she could picture them in her mind, her hands were on her lap. But that didn't help with finding the 'flow' as it were between her hands and her heart. She resisted the urge to wiggle her fingers to give herself a hint. She needed to find it on her own...no cheating. Somehow she had a sneaky suspicion cheating in magic would have bad results.

But...unbekownst to her she could feel the connection, because she was focusing so hard she overlooked the obvious and had to backtrack somewhat. She was...much more attune to magic it seemed than her brother.

She nodded her head slightly, as if afraid she may loose the feeling if she spoke. She found it..the odd feeling that connected to her heart and hands.

"Very good. Hold that feeling... let it be the center of your being."

Thomas lifted a hand and pointed over towards some of the collected prompts. A thick wooden board drifted over and hovered right in front of her.

"Now. move as quickly as you can, move your hand in a chopping motion right in front of you..."
