Kenai yawned and sighed, slipping through the grasses of the southlands, boardering somewhere near the mistweaver lands. He wasn't sure where or when but he'd gotten seperated from his female companion and he felt a certain pang of guilt and hurt whenever he thought of it. He tried to keep hope that she was around somewhere and he'd run into her again. Unfortunately he could not force himself to head back to his homelands, not yet.
There was something lovely about being heartbroken and a lone wanderer. Cartainly there was something very poetic and romantic about it... that and the slim possibility of running into his girl again. But that hope was slowly, unknown to his outer mind, dying. He would have to get on with his life and that most likely meant going home...

Having just concluded her conversation with the beautiful Goddess, Mtima, Kamaria was determined to make her way to the mistweaver territory. She had been told only good from her mother and though she knew of the plague, she was in no way prepared for the affects of the drought. Optimistic and eager, the lioness pushed on, weary from walking at such a quick speed.
As she neared the border, she caught site of a large male nearby. Not the type to simply disregard someone, she smiled and approached carefully. She was certain not to creep up on the male as she did not wish to cause any awkward surprises. Making herself clear, Kamaria lowered her head respectfully and introduced herself, "Greetings, I am Kamaria." Though she was tired of wandering, she was pleased to find a simple lion in which she could exchange conversation with. The meeting with the Gods had been thrilling, but Kamaria felt she needed to be careful of all she said in their presense. With another lion in the roguelands, she felt almost at home.

Kenai blinked and his ears flicked as he turned his gaze to the female. He took a moment to look her over, to see if she was a threat or not. He had the brains not to just cast off a lion because they were a female; they could be most formidable foes. But she seemed friendly enough (in the back of his mind he knew you should not let first impressions do the judging) and seemed only to want some company. He bowed his head to her, storing the information of the scaring on her shoulderblades. An unfortunate accident? Or was it from a fiercesom fight?
"Kimaria." He let the name float off his tongue and he just continued to smile and nod. "Ah." He almost had forgotten to give his own name in his study of the creature. "And I am known as Kenai, it's nice to meet you. Are you from these parts?" Most who were in the southlands didn't actually live there... but there were still a few who called these rogue lands their home.

As Kenai looked her over, the female felt herself become somewhat shy. She understood that this was normal to understand and get a better grasp on whom you were speak with, but she still felt her cheeks turn a light pink as Kenai's eyes roamed over her curiously. When his eyes stopped on her scars, she offered a gentle smile, as though not to scare him away. "Proof that these lands can both be dangerous as well as kind," she described her scars. There were three long thin, claw marks that extended across her back and over one of her shoulder blades. Had Kamaria been more aggressive, it would have been a great fight, but the lioness allowed the rogue to make off with her food. He was larger than her in frame and though he was thinner, Kamaria knew he could offer a great amount of damage.
Once she had finished speaking of her scar, she smiled when the male finally introduced himself. It seemed with a name, one had an intimate part of you. In truth, anyone could lie easily about what they were called, but when trust was given, friendship could easily follow. "Ah, Kenai. Interesting name. I do not recognise it.. Does it have a meaning?" When Kamaria was unable to connect the name to a meaning, she seemed deep in thought. The lioness knew of many names and had heard a great deal of stories that tied the names to their true meanings. Like her own name, which meant "like the moon", she felt all names connected spiritually to its owner.

Not often did any others show interest in names, they were given and conversation was pushed onward. "I believe it means 'of the water' but I am not all too sure. It has been a long time since I have..." He trailed off for a moment, a very deep sadness overcoming his features. It only lasted a moment though and he put his smile back in place. "It has been a long time since I have seen my mother." He said slowly. "A long time since she has told me in fact." He shrugged lightly and tried to push the conversation onwards. "And what does a pretty name like Kamaria mean?"

Kamaria observed the strange expression Kenai offered as she questioned his name and she felt the need to explain herself. "When I was a cub," She began, looking off a bit because of what she was about to say, "My mother used to tell me that our names were more than just ideas of our parents. When we were born, our names were already given us and our parents were simply the ones to announce them. Each lion's name represents a large part of them.." And feeling somewhat foolish, she looked back to Kenai and let out a nervous laugh.
The lioness, having turned away for a moment, barely noticed the saddened expression that went over Kenai's face at the mentioning of his mother. She wondered if he noticed the exact same expression cross her own face. A saddened smile appeared on her face as she suddenly felt closer to the male. They had, in fact, both been brought sadness by their mothers. For what reason was unsure at this point.
"Like the Moon," She said with a proud smile. "My mother said she could not name me otherwise."

He thought about it for a moment and then smiled gently at the female. "A wise lioness, your mother. Perhaps my naming is why I am so attracted to water." All his life he shied from the land and would rather be in the water, almost like a fish would. As he got older he learned to ignore the craving though... especially when he'd met his traveling companion and left home. But... well she was gone now. And he had a new quest in mind before he returned.
"A beautiful name." He said slowly, after learning the meaning. As he looked her over, slightly shyly, once more he realized she very much reminded him of the moon when it was full. "Your pelt shines like the moon."
"So what brings you this way?" His head tilted. Slowly he would try and find lions knowledgeable about herbs and plants that lived on these lands... he could bring valuable knowledge back to his home. Poza. The word gently rolled into his mind and he smiled faintly, thinking of it. Since the pride had reestablished with his mother and father they lacked many important rolls.. but yes. He would like to become a Poza... but would he be able to?

Kamaria smiled, hearing that her new friend had made a connection with his behavior and his name. She did not feel it sounded so far fetched to make the tie. Nodding a bit, the lioness glanced around for some body of water nearby. "Speaking of water, it's been quite some time since I have come across some.." She said this almost to herself.
Once she had mentioned her own name, she felt her cheeks become warm as the male complimented her. Her pelt reminded him of the moon? She shined? Her cheeks became brighter as she allowed his words to sink it. It was not often that someone paid her such endearing compliments. Especially one that put her mother's decision of her name so highly. It felt nice to know that her mother had been correct in her naming. "Why.. t-thank you," She said shyly.
Looking around again in search of water, the lioness thought about why she was venturing along the rogue territory. She had already mentioned her mother so it would do no harm to continue speaking of her. Her mother was an amazing lioness. Still looking off, though not out of disrespect, Kamaria continued, "I am searching for the Mistweaver pride. I hope to join, though not many wish to speak of them.."

When he realized that he was embarrassing her, at least that is what he thought, he began to blush too. He hadn't meant to make her uncomfortable, even if at the same time it pleased her. "I'm sorry... I was speaking my thoughts out loud... though I do mean them." He said, kind of awkwardly. He wasn't sure how he should continue but then she went on.
"Ah!" He had heard a lot of the mistweavers. He smiled sadly. "I heard long ago that land was filled with water... it was never hard to come by. It's close, those pridelands... but I am not exactly sure where." He shrugged lightly and gave her an apologetic look. "I am unsure how easy it will be to join... I think the plague a few years back hit them hardest of all." He said quietly, hoping this would not discourage her from her quest but only give her caution.

Kamaria had conversed with male lions before, but it never occured to her that they might look to her as more than a friend. Having only just met Kenai, she would not have assumed he meant something intimate by what he said, but still felt flattered that he would compliment her. Since his compliment, she seemed to stand taller as though she was very proud of her beautiful pelt. It was another thing she had recieved from her mother. Though sadly, Kamaria did not remember much of her father in order to compare herself to him.
The lioness nodded when Kenai spoke of the mistweavers. She underdstood that the plague had hit them roughly, but she had no idea that in the time since, they had not been able to rebuild. She looked sadly off towards the pride and continued to speak, "Yes.. the plague is what sickened my mother. I was lucky to be born as healthy as I am. She gave her all to me before she passed. She only had good to speak of the pride, however..." Kamaria smiled faintly at the thought of her mother and then suddenly felt silly for talking so much of her.

Kenai frowned and looked sadly at her. "Yours too?" He asked quietly, meaning her mother. "My... my mother just passed recently." He said slowly, looking to the sky. "Though it wasn't plague." She was murdered, but that was the extend he knew of it.
He shrugged lightly and sighed. "Anyhow. I am pretty sure it is in that direction." He nodded to his left.

Kamaria was surprised when Kenai mentioned his own mother's death. Although the two had just met, she felt close to the male already. Glad that she was no longer keeping the whole conversation to herself, Kamaria tried to make herself a good companion and simply listen to the other speak. Two pale colored ears lowered when the lioness heard that it was only recently that Kenai's mother had passed. Had their roles been reversed and it was Kamaria's mother who had just passed away, the lioness would have been much more bitter and upset. She was glad that Kenai seemed to be coping well.
"I am sorry to hear that.. if it would be of any comfort, I would be happy to hear you out if you need someone to talk to.." In her attempt to be of assistance, she almost didn't hear him speak of the mistweaver's pride. "Oh." She said finally, glancing towards where he pointed, "..Thanks."

He smiled softly and shook his head. "I do not know what to speak of. But if I ever have a need and we happen to bump into each other I would be glad to let you listen." His tail flicked. Actually he wasn't so much coping as avoiding, that was why he began his travels in the first place.
"I myself really should journey home... but I can not bring myself to yet. I think I will try to learn about herbs and plants and how they're used to cure lions. I do not know many who practice this though.. it is very foreign. But in my pride there are stories of the practice in the olden days." He just chuckled slightly. "It was my mothers pride... she might have been the only member left. She was unsure if others survived the plague or not... if they have they are probably very old." Perhaps he did have things to say, though it was unintentional to relate them to his mother. "Any way I look at it I think truly I am just not ready to be close to my mother's death yet.." He spoke softly, kindly though and full of love. He was not bitter about his mother passing.. not even about someone committing such a hideous act. He was just upset she would never be in his life again.
"I hope she watches my siblings and I from her place in the stars..." He trailed off. "I'm sorry. I do not mean to carry on." He laughed slightly. "Do you have siblings?"

Kamaria was not quite sure whether or not she bothered the male by offering to listen, or had actually helped. Smiling lightly, the lioness looked off towards the mistweaver territory. It seemed so close and yet something wasn't allowing her to continue on. Perhaps her fear of rejection had grown over the past years?
Glancing over to Kenai now, the lioness was curious. Her travels would be far less lonely if she had someone beside her. If conversations did not need to end simply because her travels did not permit them. Not wanting to turn their friendly conversation into something uncomfortable, the lioness almost kept her curiousity hidden. Forcing herself to become more bold, she began to speak, "I was wondering, Kenai.."
But as though the male understood what she was going to ask, he spoke of returning to his own pride. Feeling lightly taken back, the lioness looked away again. It was foolish to expect a stranger to follow her. Why tie did the two of them have to one another? Listening as Kenai continued to speak, Kamaria finally responded once he was finished, "You have no need to be sorry. I am glad you were able to talk. It appears as though the two of us have much in common.. as far as siblings, however, I was born a single cub.."

Kenai smiled and nodded. "A single cub." He chuckled. "I wonder what it would be like to grow up like that." His tail flicked and he shrugged. He'd never know, obviously.
"Perhaps if you ever feel the need to travel again you can head towards the Kusini lands? They are all the way south and usually people find them by going through the forest." He nodded as he thought about it and gave her a friendly smile. "It would be nice to see you again."
