I've heard a lot of people who dislike Tifa, mention as one of their reasons that she's too clingy. I don't see HOW that works. Loving one person truly, isn't being clingy...
No, I didn't see Tifa as clingy at all. I agree, that she is one of the most independant characters. Sometimes she tends to lean on others shoulders for help, but everyone needs to do that sometimes. She's not a perfect superwoman, afterall. xD she needs help, too. I think she just finds comfort when Cloud DOES help her, and when she's near him. That doesn't make her clingy at all, especially when she lets him make his own decisions, which I think Aeris tends to stray from sometimes.

If sticking by someone you care about through everything they went through is clingy I don't even want to know what Aeris is, (remember trying to sneak out of Aeris's house to leave her behind). Tifa was worried about Cloud. Here he was out of her life for 5 years (assuming her waking up and seeing Cloud in Last Order wasn't cannon while the game was made) convinced that they were childhood friends and such, and Tifa hasn't got a clue what he's talking about! Had Tifa let him go off on his own after that then she would have been just plain irresponsible, but she followed Cloud and when the time came she took responsibility and set his memories straight. Cloud needed Tifa to be there for him in the game just like he needed in Advent Children. Just because you don't like the fact of Cloud being with Tifa don't take it out on her character.

Tifa is not clingy! I don't recall her being clingy in the least bit. I think Aeris is a lot more clingy than Tifa could ever be. sweatdrop

Hmph. Aeris is more of the "Damsel in Distress" especially when you had to roll the barrels to save her. rolleyes That was so annoying....and she's like, "Cloud, help!" Clingy much? Tifa can take out those Shinra guards AND kick Reno's a**. whee Emotionally, Tifa is a bit unstable and Cloud is the only person who is related to her, close to her because of their past. Why wouldn't she want his support?

It's the RINOA DIEASE!! : O jk. I actually like Rinoa...anyways
About Aerith calling for Cloud's help...dont tell me Tifa wouldnt. xD Cloud's doing his job as her bodyguard and protecting her. I see nothing wrong. Plus I think it's cute. Even Tifa wanted 'her hero' to come save her. They really arent that different.
First of all Aerith isnt a 'damsel in distress' if she was how the heck could she be fighting off the shinra for all those years? Even Cloud was impressed. And she may be a mage but dont underestimate their powazz! Dont make me bring up my Yuna!

Ah, Pink--- despite what you say, I think that Aeris is very much like a damsel. She avoided ShinRa, true--- but "supah ninja skillz" and kicking a** are totally two different things. In the beginning, Aeris kept asking: "Cloud, what should I do?" And you had to tell her whether to fight, or whether to run. Tifa wouldn't have to do that. xD
Aeris was meant to be a healer and a more spiritual figure--- not a fighter. There's nothing wrong with being a healer, either. Just because she's weak physically, doesn't mean she's strong-willed. Look at Garnet in FFIX. She was a healer/summoner--- her physical attacks sucked, but her healing powahz really helped. And having Bahamut on your side really is a plus.
Aeris was MEANT to be saved--- and there isn't anything necessarily wrong with that. If she acted like Rinoa,THEN there'd be problems.
Yuna was amazing. <33
But since anyone in VII could summon--- I don't really consider Aeris a summoner. ^^;

But since anyone in VII could summon--- I don't really consider Aeris a summoner. ^^; When it came to "avoiding" Shinra, she merely ran away. Plus, they didn't want to hurt her so that came to her advantage as well. confused And.....I detest Rinoa. mad Sorry for my being forward but I simply cannot stand her....SHE IS 100 TIMES WORSE THAN AERIS' FLAWS!!! AAAH! She's is so friggin' self-centered, clinging onto Squall, always pouting, and friggin' damsel in distress....AGH!! It's like, the worse of Aeris on steroids!!! scream Yuna again? *Sighs* Yuna and Aeris are completely different when it comes to personality....in roles yes, they are similar. Sure, they're both physically weak, both strong-willed, both needing someone to protect them. BUT! But when it comes to the "damsel in distress" situation, Yuna's case is special because it's essential that she's protected because she's a summoner. For Aeris, what did she do, make Cloud a bodyguard, cling to him and yell, "Cloud, do something!". I don't recall Yuna going, "Someone help me!" or something like that. Also, what's different about them is that Yuna doesn't want her friends to get involved in her troubles, even going as far as endangering herself. (Seymouuuuurrrrrrrr!!!!!) That's what makes her strong in comparison to Aeris. Aeris wouldn't go her way to do something like that. In fact, is there really much a relationship between her and the rest of the FFVII crew?

Gosh I have to better explain myself! xD When I meant by bringing up Yunie was that mages arent weak!
But isnt it hypocritical to say one day how you hate rinoa and the next how close cloti and squinoa are.
And what about Aerith saving Marlene and letting the Shinra take her? When you say Aerith didnt want to get her friends involved, you obviously dont know anything about the game. And you make her our to seem really selfish and clingy. Which are two things she is not. Aerith went to pray for Holy ALONE, she did not let Cloud come with her, or anyone else for that matter. She wanted to do it herself and she didnt want anyone to get invovled. And Aerith did have a relaionship between the rest of them, Marlene being the biggest example. Marlene really loved Aerith as stated in AC and she really looked up to her. Just because they werent together for long doesnt mean that she is anyless important to anyone of them. The FFVII crew may know Tifa better just because they were with her longer.
About clingyness Aerith isnt at all. So let me explain. Aerith is emotionally and mentally stable, so she has no reason to cling. But if she clings to Cloud you know what that means? That she simply wants to be with him. ^^
And just had to ask why would Yuna yell Seymour? Dont you mean Tidus? XD

And just had to ask why would Yuna yell Seymour? Dont you mean Tidus? XD *Shakes head* Once again, Cloti and SquallxRinoa have similar roles, just like Cleris and TidusxYuna. When it comes to personality, they differ greatly. So no, Tifa and Rinoa are not similar at all. Perhaps in some scenes where Rinoa is actually a bit mature, but in majority, she's similar to Aeris. Ehh, not really. When I'm talking about relationship with the rest of the FFVII crew, I mean like Barret, Vincent, Yuffie, Cid, and etc...Marlene is an exception of course. And she was put in Aeris' care by Tifa. Not to say that she didn't care for Marlene at all! However, she focuses mainly on Cloud and his own happiness rather than anyone else. She went to pray for Holy yes, but mainly she wanted to keep Cloud safe. And why should it matter who they've known longer? Barret knew Tifa longer yes, but what about Vincent, Cid, Cait Sith, Yuffie, Red? They knew those two at the same time. confused (Haha, take that! Now we BOTH need to review the game! xd ) The point is that she barely associates with them. Of course they didn't detest her or anything. But overall, they didn't touch her. (Not literally mind you.) True, when she clings, it means that she just wants to be with him. But that is one of her faults too. She ends up neglecting a lot of things around her. Oh and that wasn't Yuna screaming Seymour. xd That was me bellowing out a a string of a thousand year curses at him.

Ah, I like Aeris. However, I won't raise her onto some 'holy pedestal of worship'. Aeris is naive, and quite selfish if you ask me. I can name quite a few instances where this is so.
Also, in the game guide it states that Aeris is "More interested in the deepening love triangle between herself, Cloud, and Tifa." That statement alone shows that she is a bit self-centered. ^^; Not to say that she doesn't care, no that's not it at all. The fact that everyone could name something they liked about her when she died, proves that they were fond of her and the things that she did while she was living. Although, I don't think you can count saving Marlene. Any person who saw ShinRa coming their way, would hide any children even if they weren't their own. Anyone DECENT, anyways.
I detest Rinoa as well. She was a stuck-up, selfish, snobbish, "the world revolves around me", "I only care about myself and Squall", "I disrespect my father even though he cares about my well-being", "people call me a princess even though I treat them like s**t", "worship the ground I walk on or else", disrespecting, immature person. -Inhales deeply- I don't think Rinoa is like Aeris at all. IMO. The only part I can relate to her is that they are both the 'weaker' damsel-like types and are both a little naive at times. Heh-- but Rinoa wasn't emotionally strong at all. (The instance on the Ragnarok certainly proved that.)
I think Aeris has flaws, but I think that's a good thing. It makes her character more balanced. Rinoa's flaws are just SO many that it just makes her ... A bad character. IMO again.
I agree with you Twin, on what you said about Yuna. Yuna wasn't really trained to fight, but to summon and sacrifice. And actually, Yuna is quite badass when she can control her summons and if you teach her other magic(s) as well. ; ]
And, I will admit that I thought that Tifa was the one who yelled along the lines of "Cloud do something!" much more than Aeris in the beginning of the game. That didn't really bother me, and it did fade anyways. But "Cloud help me!" is a different thing---> and yes it relates to Aeris very, very much. But Twin, when you say Aeris wouldn't go out of the way for others, I think that's a little bit off. Because she did go to the forgotten city by herself. She told Cloud that she'd come back when it was all over. Cloud just decided himself that he had to go after her. . . Which I don't think she necessarily wanted. Because in AC she says "You came for me, that's all that matters." Like she appreciates he actually tried to come and help, though she told him he didn't need to. Aeris and the FF crew obviously have some interactions, but I think she was closest with Cloud, Tifa, and RedXIII. But with the others... no, I don't think at all that there was very much relations... ^^;
Aeris is very emotionally and mentally stable, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have emotional breakdowns, because she does. Sometimes she's confused too, and sometimes can 'break down'. Maybe not to the extent of others, but she still does it. Like when Tseng hurt due to Sephy, for instance. She was in tears.
Even if she clings to Cloud because she wants to be with him--> that still makes her clingy. She flirted with him almost non-stop--- and that is pretty clingy as well.

I do see her as the Good Samaritan of sorts and she isn't so selfish that she would forget about everyone else but to an extent, yes, she has like...tunnel-vision. And like you said...she flirted non-stop. xd

And you know what I just realized, Square has never mentioned Aerith as a clingy character but they have for Tifa. Square said something along the lines of "trying their best not to make Tifa look clingy". I do have the original quote somewhere I believe its from the AC reunion files. So since square never even mentioned Aerith as a clingy character, it's not accurate to say that she is clingy based upon your own opinions. Now for Tifa, as stated by square, clingyness IS one of her attributes but square tried to portray that not so much.

Clingy-ness in general is a matter of opinion, even if the creators did say it. Square has called Tifa bright and optimistic, but most the rabid Cleris fans I've seen reject that because they see her as too self conscious and such.
