Loremaster Catspaw Captain

Loremaster Catspaw hmmed contentedly as he glanced around the room, checking for any forgotten details. The lights were in place and winking slowly, all the other entrances to the room were hidden behind thick curtains or pieces of scenery. Quil was faithfully guarding the items on the refreshment table, lest some prankster decide to add extra ingredients. The streamers and fake cobwebs were up and there were plenty of places to hide. Excellent. Sensing her partner's satisfaction, the giant brindle cat yawned apathetically, flicking a few drops of ink from the end of her tail. She was stretched out under the table, completely relaxed save the constant swiveling of her ears and occasional twitch of her nose. Quil didn't really care for decorations and celebrations but it was more for the kids than the staff, although in her opinion, the latter spent too much time holed up in their workspaces and not enough time outside observing. Gloria Vixeneye was definately one of those people who should spend less time in her magical laboratory and more time socializing. She, however, did not at all agree. Still, she reflected as she glided around the room working minor spells, her chimera partner draped over her shoulders like a living feather boa, it had been a long time since she'd been able to play with her magic. Enchanting plastic bats to periodically emit shrill noises and making semi-transparent creatures float around the room wasn't very difficult at all by her standards, but it was still (Dare she use the word?) fun..in some vague and unproductive way. The rest of staff had determined that it wasn't safe to let the clumsy and usually inattentive Warmaster help decorate the delicate interior of the party room, so Sebastian Dragonspine wandered the front courtyard, staple gun in hand and a stack of flyers under one arm. The new handlers should already have been notified by mail, but it wouldn't hurt to put up a few directions here and there. Slyph nudged his handler with his nose and fluttered one feathered wing, wordlessly offering transport, but Dragonspine declined with a vague wave of the staplegun. Not like he had anything better to do until the party actually started.

Well, today was the day, and that was the last of it, thought Techi L as she dragged a tub of water into place. The games were set up (Bobbing for Apples, a Marshmallow Biting Contest, and a Craft Area for painting miniature cat figurines) and the children should be arriving soon. L normally disliked social gatherings of any kind. They were unproductive, somewhat destructive, and completely pointless, but she'd made a point of turning up for this one. After they were assigned to mentors, she didn't get to see the kids very often, and this was a valuble opportunity to make more observations. Of course, Techie Q, not her, was in charge of assigning them to chimera, but in L's opinion, there were just somethings that couldn't be left to other people. The Spellmaster gazed harshly around the room. Unlike her coworkers, she had declined to wear any sort of costume, but the style of her black dress happened to match the slightly morbid decor anyway. Really, they were all so childish and the otherwise handsome Loremaster was wearing something eyeblindingly orange that clashed terribly with his hair. Even the ever-serious Techie L had splashed a bit of red paint (or was it real blood?) on her labcoat. Anyway, the party-goers would be arriving any minute and she had to prepare for the main contest. She approached Catspaw, tapping the shoulder of his garish shirt lightly. "Call Quil for me please." "Of course, Gloria." he replied, and within a few moments the enormous brindled pard was sidling up to them as if it had been her intention all along. She nuzzled on ear against the Loremaster's thigh and purred contentedly. It was amazing, really, how she could always sense what was wanted of her. Research stated that chimera were bonded to their handlers in a way that enabled a sort of empathetic communication. His generation hadn't been properly bonded, so it only worked on way, but this new crop of his students should be able to sense their chimera partners the same way. There was a rumor, of a kind of magic that would allow a handler to have this connection with all chimera, but he hadn't found any more evidence to it than that. She twirled her wand twice and Quil was suddenly a quarter of her actual size and white with a pretty saddle brown pattern and grey stripes. She fastened a collar with a pouch containing a wooden cat token around her neck and was off to find Ves and his chimera, Omarr.

Ves deside to dress up as doctor as he was interseted in healing. But he was sitting down and rummageing threw his back to make sure he had all the things that he would need if there was a need for him. When all things were in order he set up a pin the bone skeletion game and stuck it on the wall kid height. Near it he put the bones to the game on a low table.
Walking up to him and looking over what costume Ves was wearing and taped him on the shoulder. "Could you please call Omarr for me."
"Sure thing Spellmaster Vixeneye," he replied as Ves called Omarr, as in his fation walking between Ves legs in trying to trip him all in fun. But he knew this and wasn't fooled by it and patted him on the head. "Not this time Omarr, maybe next time." Omarr eyes narrowed as he would get him next.
She flicked her wand twice and Ves was the size of a house cat. Coloration of a Gray taby and he wasn't too happy about it but now at least he was wearing a costume. She attached around his neck a collar with a pouch that had a cat token in it. With that finished she went on her way.

Hyperactive child combined with a holiday that gave out free candy was never a good idea. Or, at least, that was what Kaden was telling himself. He was the only guardian with Caleb that night, as Riordan had stayed home to go trick-or-treating with Reese. While Reese had insisted upon dressing up as Nemo (which led to a long hunt for a costume for him), Caleb had not been able to be encouraged to pick something as harmless.
No, the young boy was dressed as a vampire, complete with fake teeth, cape, and white facepaint. The men had even managed to get the boy still long enough to gel his hair down in a Dracula style. Kaden gave in to Caleb's requests to match him and was thus also a vampire. They'd had to wait until Reese had left to get their costumes on, though, as Caleb had terrified his brother when he tried on the cape and teeth at home.
There was a wriggling lump at the back of Caleb's cape, where the material caught his wagging tail. The boy was tugging at his father's hand as they entered, looking around. Apparently, they were early, as no one else was around that was Caleb's age. The two waved at Ves and Caleb managed to tear his hand away to go give L's legs a hug.

Seven was more interested in making costumes than wearing them, but he was at least wearing Theater Techie black, which was more because he hadn't bothered to change after coming home from work than because he cared about the party theme, but it was fine since Faigle hadn't pressed him. She was wearing black too, but her garb was in the style of a ninja. She'd even insisted that he add holsters for several sets of knitting needles that were carefully hidden in an overlapping flap on her shirt and they'd solved the problem of her wings by altering the back into a set of straps. He'd even made her a mask that was fastened over the lower half of her face with velcro. Personally, he thought that the sharp contrast of her white wings and fair hair was striking against all that black, but Faigel herself was more interested in the concept of it. She seemed to have melted into the costume, her somewhat jerky but gracefully avian movements matching the intense alertness one might find in a ninja. She clapped one wing against her side disdainfully as she watched a tailed boy wag and wriggle and fawn over her favorite Techie. Even at her young age, she was far too proud to demote herself to that. No, Faigel would wait to be approached. She wandered over to the craft table and picked up one of the wooden tokens, eyeing it with a certain amount of indifference while she waited until L's attention was free.

Ah, the runaway. Most of the subsequent reports on Goldfur were still gathering dust somewhere in her "To Read" pile, but apparently he hadn't managed to get away yet. She received the greeting warmly, patting Caleb's gelled hair. He had been one of the nicer kids she'd dealt with, as well as being fairly easy to place and was remembered fondly. "Hello Caleb. How are you?" Meanwhile, other people were filing into the hall and milling around the food table. It was probably time that she got some of the games started. "Some nice fangs you've got there. How about testing them out?" she hinted, hoping that she could entice him to participate in some sort of structured activity rather than causing random mayhem as children tended to do. Now for the final touch. People were arrving already, so she had to hurry. Vixeneye held her arm out and her chimera uncoiled himself from around her neck and walked along it, balancing easily. Sometimes, she wondered exactly how much of him was substance and how much was magic that he weighed so little. She twirled her wand twice and Weaver grew a little, his muzzle shrank and his tail thinned and his fur darkened from iredescent silver to a sandy gold. Quickly, she fastened a collar around his neck with a pouch that contained a wooden cat token and sent him off. Her portion of the preparations were complete.

Tail wagging, Caleb grinned up at L. "'M goo'," He told her, then pointed over at his parent, who was getting punch for the two. "Loo'! Da'y2 mat'hes me!" Try as they might, the men had not been able to get Caleb to call Kaden "Uncle" like Reese did. The boy had settled upon "Daddy2" because Riordan was "Daddy" already. Caleb's speech was impaired by the plastic teeth he refused to remove from his mouth when talking.
The man smiled at L, then knelt to Caleb's level to make sure the boy had a firm grasp on the little disposable cup before releasing it and sipping at his own punch, standing once again. Caleb drank most of the cup before grinning up at L again. "Tes' ou'?" His tail wagged harder and the boy glanced about to see what L might mean by that.

Saiyori wondered how much whining Jessy would do when he returned his daughter to him later that evening. He also wondered just what form of revenge the orange haired man would take, when he realized that he'd been bested by the foul tasting cough medicine that also had a built in sedative. "You ready to go in?" He asked, looking down at the little girl beside him. She was swathed in white bandages and costume jewelry, a little female mummy dect out in al her plastic worldly possessions.
Glaceu adjusted the sky blue dress that was over the bandages and nodded, pushing up the single bandage that fell across the bridge of her nose. She watched her Kitty open the door and hold it for her. She strutted across the threshold like the queen she was imitating.

Anne double checked the slip of paper she'd found at her home. She was slightly unsure what to do, and had merely shown up, gently pulling Louis along by the hand. He trotted along behind her, fist stufed in his mouth, and his favorite jumper (which was two sizes to big) on around his thin, pale body.
Louis was utterly fascinated. Halloween was something he'd never properly expirienced, and such an incredible set up had suprised, then quietly amused him. The most you could tell from his actions was the eger was his deep blue eyes flicked back and forward between everyone that had already shown up.
[I'm not sure if I should post here yet, since visit II isn't over yet, and neither is his med check. Hope it's ok razz ]

Ves smiled at Caleb and waves back. He thought that Caleb looks good at a vampire. Ves is still setting up his game and waits for the kids to come to him.

((Wow, everyone's here. That was quick. Okay, small reprise of fun socializing time, then we'll get started with the main game.)) "Mmhnm." she nodded, leading him over to the apples and marshmallows setup. "This is a game called 'Bobbing for Apples'. The idea is to grab one of the apples with your teeth. It's not as easy as it sounds because the apples move and sink into the water when you try to bite them, and the tub is too deep to pin one against the bottom unless you stick your whole head in. Well, Caleb, do you think those fangs can stand up to an apple?" Privately, L doubted it, but it was a good chance to worm through Caleb's personality a bit. She'd received a notice from another department that usually meant there was a chimera ready that might match his traits. "Of course, you're welcome to play too." she said stiffly to Kaden. L always made an effort to include the mentors, but in truth, she never much trusted them. And just how was that boy garnering so much attention. He was just moving a lot and making lots of noise. By Faigle's standard, that wasn't considered good behavior at all. Good behavior was sitting quietly but defensively, waiting to be approached or spoken to, and not being violent or making a fuss unless she felt threatened. The rest of the world might think that her behavior had improved, but Faigle maintained to herself that she'd been following the same code of behavior all along. She just felt a lot less threatened most of the time. Seven was fairly harmless unless she started something and L was always nice to her and she was bigger than that noisy movey boy, so he wasn't a problem either.
Nearby, Seven was prodding at one of the ghosts, trying to discover what kind of mechanism made it seem to float in midair. He was rather discreetly keeping an eye on Faigle, but she got snappish when he fussed over her too much so for the most part, they left each other alone. She was sitting quietly, like a fluffed raptor, but something was clearly agitating her as a sneer of contempt spread across her face and she cast jealous glances at the lady in the white labcoat. She looked so forlorn sitting alone at the craft table. Whitehawk, was it? Of course. How could he forget her? She'd put up quite a fight when he'd come to fetch her, even bitten him, although she got along spectacularly with Quil and they'd patched things up once she realized she wasn't being taken to yet another detention center. Those wings could really raise a nasty welt or two. "Faigle?" he said softly, to get her attention before sitting down beside her. How are you? Having fun?" Slyph slapped his tail against the wooden tile floor as he watched two more children and their mentors enter the room. Handler candidates; they emitted the scent of magic. And while on the subject of handlers, where was his? The great grey featherdragon was large enough to see over the crowd easily though he was sitting, but even from his vantage point, Sebastion was nowhere to be seen. In the end, he gave up and lied down. Might as well be comfortable. As it turned out, Dragonspine had found a new victim to annoy. He was currently hiding behind a decoration where Vixeneye hopefully would not spot him, waiting to jump out and scare Ves. Or maybe using one of those bones as a deadly projectile would work better. Or, he could just stick to the classics by sneaking up behind him and pulling the back of his shirt/coat (not sure what exactly he's wearing) up over his head. That one always worked. As he pondered, he studied his target thoughtfully. Black hair, patches of scales, long tail..sounded familiar. New Senior Handler? Maybe, but he was too young for that.

Caleb grinned, eyeing the container filled with water and floating apples. Psh, L obviously didn't know how well he excelled at games! This would be a piece of cake.
The boy knelt beside the bucket and eyed the apples for a moment. One floated near him and so he plunged his head in that direction, mouth wide open. Teeth met apple and the boy started to bite down, but the apple slipped from his face and bobbed back to the surface next to his ear. Frowning, he tried again, driving the apple under the water's surface. Caleb reemerged, his face dripping wet and no apple between his teeth.
Okay... so maybe it wasn't a piece of cake....

Glaceu paused once inside to study the interior (as well as to look for anything that could possibly turn scary later). Her gazed brightened as she spotted the Puppy she'd met earlier, he was dressed in a long black cape, she wondered what he was because she couldn't see his face. She walked farther into the room and giggled once she spotted a ghost floating nearby. "Kitty, can we take one home?" She asked, peering over a shoulder to look at the elegantly dressed kitsune. She watched him smooth down the front of his royal blue kimono and tuck his hands inside his sleeves.
"I think Jescobe would like one. But you have to ask one of the adults who work here first. Perhaps they have an activity where you can make your own?" Came the amused reply. Saiyori hoped that if anything, it would be a cheese cloth and glue created ghost, and not one of these 'floating without fishing string' spooks. He followed her inside the room and was impressed with the amount of effort the staff of Faction S had put into the little holiday get together.

Ves thought that he would walk around the room and try to meet more of the guardians and kids as he would be teaching them in time. Smoothing out the wrinkles of his lab coat he was wearing for his costume and started to walk around the room and not too aware of things around him as he swayed his tail about.

Fidgiting nervously,. Louis spotted a few vaguely familiar faces. He spent much to long hiding behind bookcases and under tables to really get proper looks at anyone's faces...but the legs were familiar.
Anne looked of the rabble of unfamiliar people, trying to spot anyone she might recognise. Where was that nice techie when she needed her? Spotting Ves as he swaggered past, Anne waved a little, "Oh, um, hello. I was sent a letter, and..." She gestured down to Louis at this, and he shrunk back a little, "I was wondering if you could tell us about some of the people here. I'm afraid I don't know most anyone here all too well."
