Something was stumbling through the trees to his right. He was patrolling the borders, as he usually did, and missing Ehrek, as he usually did whenever they were apart. But it had been his choice to leave the den early this morning, while his love was still sleeping. He hadn't wanted to wake Ehrek with his dreams again.
Raising his head to the winds, he inhaled deeply and almost gagged on the scent of blood, fear, and overpowering both, the scent of his sister. Growling deeply, he big alpha turned and charged into the trees, worst case scenarios popping into his head.
Why did she smell of blood and fear? Had she killed one of his pack?? The thought sent him into a rage, eyes misting over with red. If so, she was a fool for going deeper into his territory.
Snarling savagely, he sprang from the trees towards his stumbling query; a blood spattered gray wolf, with a mass of torn flesh replacing his left eye. At the last minute, he swerved to the side and landed badly, twisting his front right paw.
The gray male yelped in fear and collapsed, as if Deimos' charge had sapped the last of his strength.

"Please . . . don't hurt me . . . anymore . . . " Jahka clawed feebly at the dirt, tongue lolling weakly. Blood dripped slowly from his ruined eye, splattered the dry earth like a macabre drop of rain. "I'm not . . . bad . . . I don't want . . . to be . . . bad anymore . . . please . . . " His body shivered violently, and consciousness left him.

Deimos listened in horror, realizing that Moirai had done this to the poor gray wolf. His words made no sense to the alpha, but it didn't matter. If he didn't help the other male, he wouldn't make it through the night.
Gently nosing himself beneath the male, Deimos tried to his best to position himself so that Jahka was mostly on his back before gaining his feet again. The gray male was rather light, almost unhealthily so. The alpha wondered how long he had been in Moirai's clutches.
He was seriously starting to doubt that his dreams were actually dreams . . . Because they kept coming true . . .

Jahka woke in darkness, surrounded on all sides by earth. For a brief, terrifying moment, he was back in that riverside burrow, fellow pack mates laughing outside the hole they had trapped him in. His claws dug feverishly at the blocked entrance, strained, frightened whimpers escaping his panting jaws.
And then he was back in the present, feeling the soothing lick of a warm tongue on his wounds, cleaning away the blood. His body was one giant ache, but that one touch, over and over, did everything in the world to ease the pain. It almost made him forget about what Moirai had done to him, what she had made him do . . .
Almost . . .

He felt the gray male spasm as he woke, heard his suddenly terrified whimpers, and murred softly to reassure him. When he finally quited again, Deimos continued his ministrations, cleaning away the physical evidence of what his savage sister had done to him.
After a few moments of silence, the alpha paused. "What's your name?"

Jahka cringed at the sound of the other wolf's voice. It sounded so much like Moirai's . . .
"J-Jahka . . . "
Whimpering, he pushed himself away from Deimos, afraid that he was going to hurt him too. He smelled like Moirai, sounded like him . . . If only he could see what the other wolf looked like, but he didn't need to. Jahka knew the two were related.
Gritting his teeth, he pressed his back against the wall and bared his teeth with all the strength he had left. "Just kill me and get it over with. I won't beg anymore."

Taken aback, Deimos blinked in the semi-darkness of the old badger den; it had been close to where he had first found Jahka.
"Kill you? Why would I want to kill you?" The alpha had to give Jahka credit; even as weak as he was, the young male was still willing to put up a fight.

"Why? Because you're related to that b***h! That psychotic female that tortured, raped, and ruined me. But I won't lay down and take it this time. I can fight well enough. You'll lose something before I go," Jahka snarled, hackles raised and ears flat against his skull. He tried to prepare himself to die, but deep down, the fear was the same.

When Jahka compared him to Moirai, fury over-took him and he snarled. "I am nothing like that . . . that thing. Have you forgotten that I saved you? If I were like her, I would have killed you where you fell. Now, lay back down before you do something else stupid, like challenge me to a fight."

"You . . . " Jahka was at a loss for words, and he felt his bravado induced strength ebb away. Before he realized it, his legs buckled and he hit the ground, too weak to even lift his head. "I'm sorry . . . "
The memories hit him and so did the tears, his body shaking with their violence. He felt warmth beside him, but couldn't think anymore.
No . . . he didn't want to think . . .

Frowning, he curled around Jahka, nudging him with a whine. "There's nothing to be sorry about . . . you didn't do anything wrong . . . " Letting out a low whine, Deimos took less than a second to decide. "Jahka . . . join us. My pack can protect you . . . "
The gray wolf seemed to pause, and then gave the smallest of nods before he let his head drop to his paws.
Deimos murmured more soothing words until Jahka fell asleep again, the fur on his cheeks stiff with drying tears. Jahka was simply another reason to rid the world of his sister. She couldn't be allowed to do this to another wolf.
He just hoped he could get to her in time.

Slipping from the den, Jahka took in his surroundings, breath fogging from his jaws in the cool air.
For a moment, he glanced over his shoulder, looking back into the darkness of the den and at the wolf slumbering within.
He couldn't thank Deimos enough, for being willing to help him, for inviting him into his pack . . . But Jahka couldn't stay. Not yet. He would come back someday, but Moirai was undoubtedly pregnant, and he couldn't leave whatever pups might come from her to her mercy. They were his pups too . . . even though he didn't know anything about puppies.
Sighing, he faced forward, not quite ready to return to his worst nightmare. But, with a deep breath, he limped his way back towards hell.

At first she was furious. Her prey had escaped, right from under her nose. But then she had thought about it, not alone, mind you, and realized that Jahka would return. His nature meant that he could do nothing else.
She had accepted the twisted parts of him, when no one else had, and that's what would keep him coming back. She had only to wait.
Which wasn't long. Stretched out high above the entrance of her den, where the breeze scent her all the latest news of the forest, she caught the scent of her little play toy and grinned. The voices had quited after mating with the gray, since, deep down, that's all they hounded her about, and she reveled in the silence.
Smirking, she watched Jahka limp his way through the trees, waiting for the moment to pounce.

He was panting with pain by the time he reached the entrance to the huge cave. Memories of escaping from it were foggy, but now that he looked within, he saw that the floor dipped down steeply, the blackness eating away at the rock until he could see nothing.
Distracted as he was, he didn't see Moirai until her cackle rent the air, forcing his gaze upward, but too late.
She had jumped from her perch like some fierce leopard, body arched towards him, paws striking his side with such force, she heard an audible crack of a rib.
Yelping, Jahka's paws scrabbled at the ground, but she forced him back into the depths of the cave.

"Aww. How cute! The little puppy thought he could leave me . . . " Prancing in front of him, she smirked, ears twitching at the sound of his labored breathing. "But he knew better, and came crawling home."
Leaning closer, her jaws nipped painfully at his sensitive nose. "You can't escape me, Jahka. You'll never be able to."
Grinning, she jumped over him and grabbed his tail in her teeth, pulling him deeper into the cave.
