After her interesting meeting the the rogue wild dog, Lela'bahari had decided she didn't want to go home just yet. The sun had almost sunk completely beneath the horizon, and stars were starting to pop out along the faintly lavender sky above. With the air being cool and light, it was just too tempting to not go out an have a little nighttime adventure.

White-tipped paws padding along the earth quickly, the forest her pack dwelled in slowly began to recede in the distance. The faint glimmer of a watering hole twinkled in the distance, and Lela headed in that direction. Her throat was already parched from her mildly fast pace. Not to mention, the canine adored being near water. She wasn't a happy girl unless she could smell water close by.

Night time was her favorite part of the day, because it screamed being Baala's element. Baala blended easily into the dark of the night. It made hunting so much easier, as long as she was careful to keep her bright yellow markings hidden. But even then her markings could be mistaken for yellow grass. It was her time to be the predator, and her small stature did not hinder her as much in the dark. She was always careful to go for the smaller prey. She didn't need as much food as larger lions. She could live off of the tinier creatures. Her most common prey was those tiny little deer-things. Antelope, were they called? She couldn't remember, but she could remember the taste of them. Yummy.

For now, though, she needed to get her energy from another source. Carefully she approached a watering hole, examining the waters for the reptiles that lived underneath them. Glancing around her for one final time, she bent her head low and took a quick drink. There was still danger out there, even for a lioness. But, nothing came out of the black depths to latch onto her. She was safe, and with a satisifed sigh she backed away from the pool. It was then a flash of blue and white caught her eyes. It was coming towards her... running. It looked smaller then her, but she could never be certain. She turned her body, letting out a low, throaty growl, ears pressing flat to the back of her head. Whatever was coming... Baala doubted she'd have trouble with.

The grass felt cool underneath Lela's paws, and awfully pleasant. Her tongue lolled lazily out of her open jaws, and her large ears lay at a relaxed position against her skull. The young wild dog was of such a peaceful nature that the thought of anything threatening being close to her hadn't even occurred to her. She just knew that the crickets were singing pleasantly, and the grass was whistling beautifully around her.

In her own little world, full of rippling, small waves and sandy shores, Lela never saw the lioness. She only heard the threatening growl. The sound, so harsh, quickly dragged her out of her reverie. Jaws clamping shut, her ears flattened to the back of her skull, and a whimper hovered in her throat. Lela was not skilled whatsoever when it came to defense, as she'd never had anything to defend in the first place. Most likely, if anything attacked her, she'd roll over and think they were trying to play.

White-tipped tail tucked firmly between her legs, and her head lowered submissively, Lela tried to peer into the darkness, but saw nothing. She, herself, would easily blend into the night as well except for her bright white markings. Her voice no more than a whisper, she called out into the slowly growing darkness, "Hello?"

Her monster marking was the first thing Lela could see. It seemed to move in the darkness by its own, haunting with its wicked grin. But then yellow bangs floated above it, ice blue eyes peering out into the distance, a yellow tail flicking back and forth in irritation. It became clear that the marking wasn't a living monster, but just what it was... a marking. The lioness that approached Lela was surprisingly small, though it was clear that she was mature. But it was just as clear that Baala could be a threat if she chose to be. She allowed her claws to scrape against the ground, her shoulders roll to make herself larger. Baala was trying to intimidate the mutt, because sometimes she just had no tolerance for other creatures, especially those weaker then her.

"Hello," her voice came out in a low, throaty purr, as if the idea of assaulting the wild dog brought pleasure to her mind. Honestly, she was just trying to be intimidating, warding the other off from attacking her. But, the dog looked weak, even acted weak and insuperior to her. No, there would be little threat from this wild dog. It was weaker then her, and even acted so. Baala wasn't extremely worried, even if she acted tough and looked about ready for battle.

"I am Baala, and you are a wild dog. I don't quite think we'll get along all that much." That was the truth, at least, Baala would never allow herself to befriend a creature weaker then her.

Lela's blue eyes watched the ghostly figure approach, their gaze slowly growing wider and wider. The young canine stood frozen on the spot, her legs not wanting to move a single inch. That was...until she saw four legs and a body connected to that eerie floating creature. A fraction of the tenseness eased itself from her muscles, and she raised her head just slightly. Lela only acted overly submissive when startled, and that feeling was slowly draining into simple wariness. Against a lion, the black and blue canine would no doubt be easily beat off. Yet she was no weakling, even if she did not choose to use her natural strength. Her wandering tendencies had left her with large amounts of endurance, and had left her muscles firm.

Yet...Baala just oozed threat. Her white tip paws, so delicate and tiny, backed up a few steps, her ears swooping forward. She had met lions before, but none of them had seemed quite like this. A tiny bit of confidence seeped through her, however. She was still close to her packlands, and one throaty howl would bring them to her. Her tail raised just slightly, waving at her back feet. Her head tilted to the side curiously - a trait she hadn't been able to rid herself of since puphood. "And you are a lion, of which I've met many and gotten along with just fine." She nodded assuredly, as if her little statement changed everything. Perhaps this lioness just hadn't met a wild dog before?

She eyed the wild dog with seeming interest, interpreting Lela's reaction to her sudden presence. She had seen fear before, pure fear just before it was discernible that she was a lioness. But, that fear seemed to withering away now that Lela had determined she was nothing more then a lioness. What a stupid creature this dog was, and Baa graced the mutt with a look of impatience and dislike. Surely she had better things to do then scare this creature witless. Lela, though, had disrupted her, and she was a rather bored lioness. She would teach this creature to fear her, either through violence or through language. Then she would be off to have herself a jolly good laugh. Because, truthfully, she was just wasting her time by spending it with a mutt.

"That may be true, but I am not like other lions. My tolerance for other, weaker creatures is..." She held up her paw, examining it for herself as she slowly closed each toe until her paw was curled into the shape of the ball, with 'zero' being her answer as to how high her tolerance level was. "So, you see, on no fault of your own, other then being a mutt, I am very easily agitated and violent. At one moment, I can just decided that since I really don't like you , there's no need for you to exist. Do you se the problem now?" She grinned cooly at the wild dog, making it quite clear verbally and nonverbally how much she didn't like Lela.

The black fur along Lela's spine rose slowly, and her already plush tail seemed to fluff itself out even more. Normally, this would have been the beginning of a very aggressive stature, yet Lela's ears didn't flatten to her skull and no growl lingered in her throat. She backed up a single step, simply wary of this lioness. This one was...not like the other felines she had come across. They had not minded the presence of another predator, and had, in fact, seemed to enjoy her company. To the young wild dog, anything that hunted on the earth was on some level an equal, a companion of sorts. But such were the silly thoughts of such a peaceful being who had seen no violence, and didn't truthfully believe such things were necessary.

Her tail curled slowly over her spine in a dominant position. She was, after all, the daughter of the queen of her pack, and she was still within the furthest outskirts of their domain. Her brow lowered over her blue eyes, a stern look coming over her (such an odd occurrence for her as well!). "Obviously you are one of those that have chosen the ways of violence. This is a peaceful land, and there is no place here for once such as yourself. Normally, we do not mind others coming within our territory, so long as they maintain the peace," she said, steeling her voice. Truthfully, she was a tad nervous. She could most likely defend herself for but a few moments before she found herself in serious trouble. But, there were pups back within the forest now, and it was her duty to her pack, no matter how estranged she was feeling from them currently, to rid the land of threats.

She watched the dog's every mood, looking for the slightest hint of aggression, and if she proved to be only further aggravated she would use Lela's own aggression as an excuse to attack her... and leave out any thought that she was the one who had coaxed Lela into such aggression. Baala usually avoided conflict at all cost, but her moods could differ greatly at times, and usually when the possibility for conflict arose Baala was the underdog. It was not true in this case, and it was all too clear who had the upper-hand. Lela had her pack, but with Baala's superior strength and weaponry, it was likely Lela could be severely injured before help arrived. In a one against one battle... the victor was obvious. It was the lioness who stood before Lela with an almost cocky grin on her face. She knew the standings, and it gave her a bit of confidence that could lead her into trouble.

"You do not know me, mutt. In fact, I am at most times quite ashamed of fighting. I do it on occassion when I'm particularly annoyed or when my life is on the line. But it is not so often as you seem to have been lead to believe. If you fled now without whining, I would not even attack your back." It was a suggestion slipped in through what could almost seem like casual words. But, to make sure that they weren't interpreted as casual, her eyes narrowed, and her lips pulled back with a slight snarl as she spoke once again. "But, if there happens to be any whining, I may just decide to attack you when you're defenseless, before anyone can run to your rescue."

Lela felt the call bubbling in her throat, the urge to throw back her head and cry for her family and pack. Yet, there was that small voice in the back of her head that kept telling her she could handle the situation on her own. After all, a life of traveling had left her legs strong and swift, and her smaller side gave her the advantage of speed if she did need to try and make a quick get away. The young canine's body tensed at the grin on the lioness's face. She was regretting her decision to not return home after leaving Kucha.

Yet, the words she spoke confused her. "Fighting for one's own defense, or the defense of one's kin is one thing. To fight because you are simply in a bad mood is another. There are other ways to relieve anger," she said softly, peering at the black and yellow feline. Her tail fluffed up at the snarl, but she held her ground. "Even if you did harm, or even kill, me before my pack arrived, they would come after you. We are not so peaceful when one of our family is harmed," she said simply, as if this was perfect common sense. Dogs had the upper hand in tracking skills, and she was confident her family would at least try to find her attacker. "You would not be able to defend yourself against so many, and I would not wish that on anyone."

Baala was perfectly relaxed, especially in comparison with Lela. Only occassionally did her muscles flex, but that was only to display her strength to the wild dog and discourage her from doing anything stupid. Part of her desperately wanted Lela to be the first one to attack, so she could release her negative energy. But... Baala was forever a cautious creature. She knew the risks she ran if she dared to truly confront this creature. All she had was Kiuma to protect her, and against a whole pack of wild dogs... Kiuma would not be able to protect herself. Baala did not wish to bring such trouble to the red lioness... hence why she was displaying some level of cautiousness. It did not guarantee that Baala wasn't going to attack Lela. In fact, it was still a high possibility. The dog... just got on her nerves. She did also need to sharpen her skills as a hunter and a fighter. Life with Kiuma had made things easy, and she worried that one day she would grow fat. And she really couldn't have that.

"But, you see... no other way is as much fun as causing bodily harm to a weaker creature." There was an amused lift to her voice, as if she thought that the dog's reasoning was insuperior to her own. It was, and Baala held that to a firm belief. She chuckled at Lela's next comment, her eyes flickering with light from her amusement. "What can a pack do against a pride of lions? Do you think I'd honestly consider harming you if I did not have a pride to return to who'd protect me. Your whole pack would die... and I do not think you would ever wish that upon your friends and family."

Lela would certainly never wish to cause her family harm, but something seemed rather iffy about the whole idea of this lioness having a pride to return to. She knew some of the larger lions wandered a far ways from their home, but this one was a bit smaller than most. She tilted her head slightly, curiosity seeping through her wariness. "You must have traveled a far distance, then, from your pride. The closest one is the Kusini on the other side of the woods my pack lives within, and they are generally very peaceful towards us." The young canine sat her rump on the hard earth, curling her tail over her paws. "I fear you would not make it back to your own pride before my family found you. And, no matter how violent you may personally be, I would not wish such a lonely fate on anyone."

She twitched the white tuft on the end of her tail, forcing her muscles to relax and assume an eased posture. "I do believe you put on many masks, Baala. No one chooses violence for fun unless they have sickness of the mind. Though you do seem defensive, I do not believe you would truly want to kill another creature just for the sake of killing."

The dog had some brains, though Baala doubted she was using all of them. "I am more hardy then I look." It was true, and despite the fact that she was small, every inch of her was covered in pure, strong muscle. She had travelled all of her life, and constant wanderings brought strength. Her body could endure, could last even if her mind faded away. At the mentioning of the Kusini, her eyes brightened, because though she was not a member of the pride, she knew about it. In fact, she had travelled through its territory and thus was familiar with it. If Lela wanted to give her a pop quiz, she was sure she could pass it or blame her current dehydration was messing with her mind. "You never know what a pride can do when it has been angered." Her voice was soft, carrying her threat with seemingly sweet words. "Oh, and I am not travelling alone. A companion is not far from here, and she is much larger and more powerful then I am. We would be able to keep your pack at bay until our pride came. Do not worry for my safety."

Her eyes narrowed just then, and her words became even more quiet, low and threatening as a growl rumbled in her chest. "Worry for your own. I'm getting tired of this, and if you do not leave now I will hurt you You have insulted me enough and I am not given to let anyone get away with such an act." It was a final warning, her claws scratching at the earth. Lela had hit a nerve, figuring out that Baala had many masks and that the true one was still hidden away. The dog even had the audacity to imply that she was insane!

Lela had often times spied on the golden Kusini lands, as she was horribly fascinated with the behaviors of felines. So far, Baala was appearing to be the diamond in the rough amongst dozens of nice, polite lions. However, Lela's solution to any problem was to keep the conversation light and inquisitive: distraction by questions. "I haven't seen any with your coloring in the Kusini. Do you have family there?" Little did Lela know, this strategy would probably be ignored by the black and toxic yellow lioness, and would probably only make her angrier.

Lela got to her paws slowly, keeping her blue eyes firmly on the lioness. There was more of a threat in her voice, now, but Lela was still determined to not back down. It was the least she could do for the family she was leaving soon. "If I have insulted you, then I am sorry. Yet I will not be the one to leave. The pride you claim to be a part of does not rule this territory, and we have agreements to not encroach on each other's borders. I do not think your pride would appreciate it if you caused tension between us when we have existed peacefully for so long." Lela's tail slowly rose over her spine in a more dominant position. She was a princess after all, if even for only a little while longer.
PostPosted: Wed Oct 17, 2007 2:33 pm

Lela continued to talk to her, even after she had given her fair warning about her short temper. She had outright told the creature to leave, and now Lela still stood there talking to her, interrogating her! Her words came out, short and clipped with her rising anger. "No. My mother died and my father was a wandering rogue. Hence why I'm so different in coloration." What she told Lela was in fact the truth. Her mother had died not long ago, and her father was someone she never knew. He could've been a one-night stand, or her mother could've been in love with him. He may have died or just got up and left. Baala didn't really care all that much to find out the truth, and now she doubted she ever would because of Nuksani's death. She had lost her mother forever, and now only her travelling companion was someone she could keep company with.

She sighed softly as Lela still stood there, and her patience had run out. She didn't want to mess with this creature anymore. Lela was an apologizing wimp and Baala simply held not respect for the creature. "Get. Lost." Her body moved forward, lips curling back in a snarl as she began to close the distance between them. It was too quick, too aggressive to imply anything other then Baala's intention to hurt the other or even kill her. Lela could run away to her pack, but Baala would be long gone by then. She was small for a lioness, and quick, and knew quite a few methods to avoid detection.

Lela had never known her own father either, and under other circumstances, perhaps the two females could have bonded on such a subject. Her mother never spoke of her life before returning to revive the pack, or the mysterious wild dog who had given her now-grown pups life. Fortunately, her mother was still very much alive and very healthy. Lela only hoped she stayed that way during her absence, and that she wouldn't return home one day to find her whole pack wiped off the face of the earth.

Lela was taken by surprise as the lioness lunged forward, and out of pure instinct, her fur stood on end and her lips pulled back to reveal pearly white teeth. Her muscles locked, and the defensive side of her told her to hold her ground and fight back, though she'd never lifted a paw in the direction of violence her whole life. However, the sensible side of her mind said it would be much better to start running now to warn her entire pack of what she suspected to be just a lonely, crazed rogue in their territory.

Hurriedly backing up, Lela's tiny paws shifted her lithe body in the opposite direction, and her long legs instantly set her off at one of the fastest paces she'd ever gone. She didn't bother to look back. She simply raised her muzzle towards the heavens and let out the long, keening bay that was to alert her family of invaders. She had to get back to them before Baala disappeared.
