Uumikaji was not very happy these days. Er well.. not that he was ever 'happy' but he had been rather content since staying with Syeira and starting a family. Of course the family was huge and he didn't like that very much.. Worse off was that he'd been taking care of the handful of cubs for so long without Sye! But lately they were getting big.. and he was growing distant. He couldn't stand being around them all that long, especially those that looked more like Sye than himself. He had been avoiding all forms of life in the kusini lands to be honest. He was feeling sorry for himself, and moody. He'd snapped left and right and those who certainly didn't deserve it and felt no remorse for his actions. In short? He was falling into his old ways.

He was sitting near the river, staring into the flowing depths. The sky flickered onto the water, it's reflection, every now and then. He did this for hours a day, just sitting and thinking. His tail lashed back and forth in a manner that suggested he was very cranky.

How could Sye do this to him? It was easy to tell he was falling apart with out her guidence. He was skinnier than ever with his ribs showing. His hair was matted and tangled and he smelt as if he hadn't bathed in some time. When Sye did run into him it probably would not be such a happy reunion that one would imagine... not it would probably be a big arguement.

It felt good to be home after so long, to be in the lands one knew and loved. The scenery, the nature that surrounded the area, the very scent of the earth - it was all more comforting than any land that had previously homed the wandering beauty during the travels and training of her son and grandson. It had been something she needed to do, something that the safety of the pride could ultimately depend upon, especially if the disease spread farther into the genes of the royal family. After so many months of toiling away and ceaseless wandering, the three had finally made their homecoming. With the abilities of the two males now easing her conscience and putting her worries somewhat at east, she was now in search of the second large task facing her: Uumi, and his moodiness.

By now, she ultimately had expected her mate to have scared all of their children into hiding, and generally assumed she would have to hunt down every last cub to bring them back home. Remarkably, she had found that her children had actually stayed at home instead of running off to various relatives, even if some were a little worse for wear - such as Damu, whose mood-swings seemed to be taking a turn for the worse. She still, however, had the duty of finding her mate and letting him know she was home. What condition and how she would be met was beyond her at this point, for Uumi was at the best of times unpredictable.

As she stalked along the very river where she had met Damu only a little while previously, her sky-toned eyes landed on a rather lanky mass of bright red. Though it was scruffier and much more unhealthy than normal, she instantly recognized it to be none other than her 'beloved' mate. This made her halt her steps for a moment, observing him from a little distance away. He was the one thing she had wanted to see her, at least besides her beautiful children, but she wasn't sure what his reaction to her would be. It gave her pause, and caused her to worry where she normally wouldn't with anyone else. Still, this had to be done, and she would eventually have to meet his fury regardless.

"Uumi?" she called softly, her mocha form slinking slowly towards the one settled next to the flowing river. Tossing her head in an attempt to clear her vision of the blond tuft hanging slightly across her icy eyes. As she got within a couple of feet of him, she stopped, her tail flickering idly as she awaited his answer.

Uumi did not hear his mate at first.; The water was the only sound that washed over his mind. In fact he did not glance her way until he could smell her. His eyes widened slightly as if he was surprised she was finally back. He turned and stared at her a moment but he was feeling rather moody with her. Uumi never was that mature anyways...

"You're back." He stated blunlty, his voice thick and dull. He should have been excited, over-joyed even! His other half was back... and yet... he was pissed her journey had taken so long. "About time." He said slowly and then turned and started to stalk off with out anything else. He better watch out or Sye might knock the s**t out of him!

At first, Syeira didn't react to Uumi at all. She had seen this kind of moodiness in him before, and it typically didn't go over well between them. As he spoke and began to get up, however, she slowly raised her eyebrow in his direction. Realizing what he meant to do made her narrow her eyes at him - if gazes could kill, he would have fallen right where he stood from the pierce of the icy optics.

"So that's it, Uumikaji?" she said, voice immediately hardening and taking on a cold, angry edge. "That's all you have to offer me after I've been gone for ages? No 'I missed you', or 'I'm glad you're home'? Not even an 'I love you'?" She hissed, her jaw tightening for a moment as she clamped it shut. If he didn't turn around and talk to her, it was very likely that she'd just attack him.

She had done it before.

His ears flattened and a sneer curled his lip. He did not turn to face her but he did speak. "No. Not quite, I don't feel like it." He snarled in a very immature manner. "Why should I after you've left me all alone for so long with those little.... things (they weren't so little anymore, their cubs.) and with your family... and... and.. this whole damn pride. I... it's not fair!" This time he turned to look at her. Of course it didn't matter she'd told him that she would be gone for a long time. Not at all!

"You... it's.." He had run out of steam and his anger went away but he was still very upset. He felt she was in the wrong here. He wanted to argue with her but he was too tired to argue... and Sye... she was so beautiful and... travel had made her even more impressive. She was very much his opposite. "Why should I. I just get my name... and.. and you expect I love you?" He snorted, not making much sense. Godd he missed those stunning eyes... that commanding personalty. He had missed Sye, so much...

[Fe-fe accidentally deleted this effing post, so she re-wrote it to the best of her ability so that there would be no gap in the RP.]

As those words passed Uumi’s lips, Syeira tightened her jaw and glared as fiercely as she could manage at the back of his head. If her eyes had been able to kill at that moment, Uumi would have been writhing in the pain of cold, deadly fire. “Those things, Uumikaji?,” she finally managed, growling out her words more than saying them, “those things are you children!” She shifted her paws slightly, as if she were entertaining the idea of simply attack him. If she did, he would lose – she had proven that to him before. “You’re supposed to be a father, Uumi! You’re supposed to be a father to them, but you’ve become a poor one from what I’ve seen.”

“What else am I supposed to say to you?” she hissed, her voice more collected but audibly colder now, “when you sit there staring off at nothing like you’d like nothing better than the world to be left alone.” She shook her head, turning her eyes away from him, “what am I supposed to think? I can’t tell if you’re going to be moody or inviting when I look at you sometimes.”

He took a deep, shuddering breath and his ears flattened. His body seemed to become more docile, frail. s**t. Why did he say the wrong things even... well at least why did he feel guilty about saying those sorts of things when he had meant them... well, mostly. Dammit Sye threw his mind in a haze! He felt he played the part of the lunatic when she was around and it was not fair... he felt like the obessed lover that might murder his mistress if all moves were not conducted in a planned out manner. And never were Sye and Uumi's steps planned. His tail lashed behind him and like a child denighed a sweet he hissed and turned to leave. But he turned back again, unable to make up his mind to enrage Sye or smooth over the mistake he had made.

A poor father. Indeed! She didn't know how nuts those little things drove him... their moody emotions flipping from happy to psyco in seconds flat... the odd little Azima with his odd little feminine ways that Uumi was quite honestly a little afraid of... always competeing with Hababu and Jini for who was prettier? In any case... it was true. He didn't like playing the part of the father... though he knew he loved each and every child of his and Sye's he couldn't stand the fact that he was responsible for how they were turning out. Though he more or less liked to blame Sye's family linage.

He took two steps forward, toward her, and then hesitated. s**t, what was he supposed to do in this sort of situation? "Sye.." He whined lightly. He knew it probably wouldn't be right to say sorry because that really wouldn't be enough to pacify the whole ordeal.. but still.. "My dead forgive me.." He muttered, sounding suddenly very tired and worn. "You are every bit right.. they... they are my children. But you should see how they deal with their lousy father! I am a mere play thing to them... sometimes I think this truest when you are not around.." He trailed off and sighed and huffed and tried his hardest to think of how to express this dangerous feeling of his mind unraveling and all of it but..

Alas. He could not. "Sye. Sye, I think I'm going mad." He breathed. So he could! How simple it was to breath those dangerous, tabuu words. Taabu... Their eldest son... Uumi could stand him! Well, mostly. Perhaps a visit was in order... Sye had been gone so long.. and the children! Little demons if he ever dared to think a more true thought...

Syeira watched her mate calmly, the way he turned to leave and then suddenly decided not to. She read the indecisiveness written on his face like one would a book, and knew he was struggling with what to do. Syeira could read most lions easily, pick apart their brain and their intentions, but she had never been able to do it more easily than with her mate. Uumi was often predictable, his grumpiness and moodiness coming hand in hand with the overwhelming need to shirk his responsibilities and generally piss others off. However, even though she could read between the lines and knew what he was trying to decide at the moment – she couldn’t figure out why he was doing it.

Uumi had always thought before he acted and simply growled or fussed to get his way. He generally demeaned anyone he could get away with doing so to, and often it included Syeira when he wasn’t too afraid that she’d kill him. Why now, however, had he decided to change? The old Uumi would have told her to ******** off, to leave him alone, and keep the little brats away from him – she could almost imagine him saying it all. This Uumi, however, had turned back to her and admitted his wrong. She wasn’t sure if he was going crazy, or if she was. Regardless, the words he said next made her heart a little warmer.

“I know it’s hard,” she said quietly, only now daring to come closer to the lion who was taller, but still much more emaciated than she was, “but parenting is never easy.” She let a purr develop in her throat, unable to resist the urge in burying her face against the thickness of his mane. Gods, he may be annoying sometimes, but she had missed him terribly, right down to his insults. “And what does it matter if they treat you like a toy?” She pulled back far enough to quirk a brow at him, a small devilish smile spreading across her pretty maw, “I treated my father like a toy at times and he would have given me the world, Uumi.”

She shook her head again, those icy eyes gleaming as they met their fiery counterparts. “It’s not how they treat you that matters, it’s how you respond to that treatment,” she murmured, glancing in the direction of the den, “if you allow them to do that to you, then they will. It’s about being firm, but not being hurtful.” She turned her eyes back at him, tossing her head in an attempt to clear the blond tuft out of her line of sight. “You can’t treat them like you do others, and if I know you at all, which I’d like to think I do, you probably get fed up with them easily,” even though the statement seemed to be a little cruel, she laughed. His irritation had always amused her – it wouldn’t fail to now, either.

She shook her head again at his next statement, simply burying her pretty masked face against the thick black mane that shrouded his shoulders. “You’re not going crazy, Uumikaji,” she whispered, her tail flickering behind her as she closed her eyes, drawing in that unmistakable scent of her mate, “you’re just learning what it’s like to have children.” She purred, idly talking to him now, so enrapt at being close to him, “you will never think you’re doing a good enough job, you will never feel like you understand your children, and you will always wonder what you could have done to make life better for them.” She smiled, weakly, and opened those sky-toned orbs in order to peer up at him from her lower height.

“I am sorry that I left you with them all alone, Uumi, but I needed to make sure that Damu – “ she frowned at her words and cut off abruptly, shutting her eyes and using him momentarily as a brace. “I need to make life as easy as I can for him, but I’ll never be able to fix him,” she whispered, her eyes brimming with unbidden tears. The one thing in her life that she could never fix with all the wit and wisdom in the world was her son. Damu would always, always be broken. Just like Tamu would always be broken.

Uumi listened to his mate and only when upset, annoyed or irked he would grunt or sigh or even roll his eyes, for all the world probably just like his children! He didn't reply much to what she was saying though because after she was gone for so long she was finally close, finally pressed up against him and he hungered for his beautiful, intelligent mate. He nuzzled into her shorter, stronger body. He gently groomed at the top of her skull.

As she brought up Damu his body tensed. He'd especially stayed away from that one, showing signs worse than her brother Tamu. He pressed harder against her, but not hurtingly so. "It will... be okay." He murmered softly. His tail flicked and his heart beat slowed and sped up, but he was feeling much calmer with her so close and now both of their tempers cooled.

Syeira sighed softly as she let her mate soothe her, not protesting once to the grooming. It had been a hard journey, and in some ways, her worries were only beginning. Now, though, was not the time to dwell upon such sorrows as those that she would undoubtedly face in the days to come. Now was the time to indulge in the comfort and the relaxation that her mate offered her. She had gone months without laying eyes on him, though she had been in his home lands and seen many of his siblings. She had stories for him, so much news to be told! But for now, she simply purred, and buried her head into his neck, relishing in the comfort of finally being able to be with him again.
