I don't know much about buying electric guitars. What I usually look for is a sweet sound, good feel, and if it clicks with me within ten seconds of picking it up.
So far, I have picked up an Ibanez GAX30, and a (used) Fender Squier-Strat Affinity Series (rosewood). I am satisfied with both of them, but I was just wondering how high-end or low-end they are, or basically what the all-around opinion is of them. Thanks!

I would describe the Squier as low-end. Very low-end. A Squier was my first guitar, and it has given me endless fret buzz problems, not to mention everything keeps coming loose.
Other than that, I don't really have anything to say about the GAX30. I looked it up on MusiciansFriend, and it looks decent, albeit cheap.

Deconstructing their hold...both can be decent, though most squiers, even when new, require some maintenance or tweaks. Our vengeance will be tenfold
 It's okay.

It's okay. My Squier needs a new ******** neck. If I tweek the truss rod any more, I think I'll break it, and it's STILL buzzing.

Ahem... <******** Squier xd I've had bad experiences with them... So I'll share!
1) A brand new Squier just picked up off the shelf screwed me over at a Jimi Hendrix memorial my friends put together (I know it's kinda lame : / ) It just stopped working randomly.
2) Tried to fix it later and found out that it was miswired BY THE COMPANY.
3) They wouldn't refund me OR fix it for free.
4) I was playing my friend's once and it shocked/electricuted me : /
5) I've had the bridge bust off while bending a note.
So yeah, these are just my experiences, no one else ever has a problem with them though. Also I've noticed that Fender/Squier's don't really do well with heavy metal. But they excel in Blues/Neoclassical/Clean tones. Ibanez are very versatile, they can do the above listings and Heavy Metal.
Personally I'd go for the Ibanez.

You really should have reported that. A guitar that will physically harm the player is inexcusable and should not be put on the shelves. I'm surprised Fender let this faulty guitar through... I had gotten the impression that they checked every guitar that they sent out. You could have actually probably sued Fender, since it sounds as though there were witnesses in the room when it shocked you. How exactly did it shock you? Through the strings or something?
What you should have done when it died on you was just to take it back to the place you bought it from (that is, assuming it was within the return/exchange period).
Good luck with your next guitar^^

I have a friend with a squier, the tone is shitty (being a cheap poorly made guitar), and the harware sucks, I prefer Jackson, but yes Ibanez is way versatile in style and tone, but i still prefer jackson mrgreen

I can't even play my Squier anymore. I had it for a year and its all ******** up now. My mom got it for me and I told her over and over again, I'm the one who has to find one that feels good to me, is comfortable, and one that is durable. I was so pissed off when my mom got me a Squier, They're crappy and bleh......I would for the Ibanez, thats the kind of guitar I want. Great sound and most are durable.
