How she'd ended up with this noisy companion of a slave, Meilin didn't know. She was cursed, obviously. Her luck had been on a downward spiral ever since the news came that Vian had found his sister.

She was genuinely relieved for him, but found bitter disappointment in their splitting ways because of it. What more could she expect though, she isolated herself by acting as she did, or she might not be in this predicament now.

Listening to some gargantuan female go on, and on, about the heat and her blistering paws and the damn sun, and the fact that her body was furrier than most.

Oh yes, and let's not forget those damned b*****d Firekin.

"They've got a lot of damned nerve, getting indignant and pissy over this pathetic little strip of wasteland."

Heavens forbid if Uuo knew about the fact that they had even forced their slaves to breed just to breed more slaves. Meilin kept that tidbit to herself, however, a rumor she'd heard in conversation while passing. Some information had more value if kept to oneself, and in this case, it preserved the sanctity of her poor patience, which was undergoing a heavy strain in the presence of her fellow slave.

As usual, Meilin remained stoic and silent as Uuo went on her tirade, having just been booted out of their resting spot and left to hit the sands and scorching stone again in search of new shade. The younger lioness dwarfed the lighter of the two by at least two times her size. With coloring close to that of the Firekin, and certainly more than the average Firekin female's size, Meilin wondered how many it had taken to bring this rogue in for enslavement anyway, silently of course, as she gave the other female a discreet, skeptical, sidelong glance.

Just what did they feed the cubs where this one grew up anyway?

~She's always so damned quiet!~ Uuo thought in irritation, talking enough to make up both sides of conversation was fine, but it did get old after a while. She was just reaching the end of her wind, letting out an annoyed huff and falling silent without uttering a word of complaint about it, when a small figure came into view in the distance.

The white cub rolled onto his feet.

What was that he was seeing? It was strange. Two lionesses, one looked.. slightly reddish, but not enough. The other was all white-- no hint of red at all. He tilted his head in confusion.

He'd just been lying at the edge of the den today, when he saw some lionesses passing by. One was.. huge. Extremely huge. Maybe she was a firekin after all, but he didn't think so. Still, no harm in going to find out, right?

Biting back his doubts, he moved to trot over. "Hey! " He shouted, in the best 'grown up man' voice he could muster, which, frankly, wasn't all that good. Damn, sucks to be a cub sometimes.

"And who might you be?" Uuo asked, stretching a bit before shaking out her fur. She was decidedly not particularly interested in instigating with a young one, in fact, she might just take her leave. Cubs were not her cup of tea.

Well, at least it was just a little one, although that meant running the risk of running into it's parents. Meilin only quirked a brow slightly for Uuo to see at the attempted deep voice. The Firekin seemed.... a delusional race... but... at least their cubs were still cubs.

"Hello..." Meilin decidedly did not include the title of young-master, as she saw herself as no slave yet, perhaps a dangerous attitude, if not for the fact that she knew how to play her cards in which lions' presence.

"I'm.. " He blinked. Should he be answering slaves questions? He wasn't sure what everyone would think about that. He glanced around, making sure no one was around to see he wasn't about to scream at a couple of slaves. "Moto'Spaki. " He said finally, coiling his tail around his paws and sitting down.

"Who're you? " He decided agaisnt mentioning their.. slave-ness. They were two, and he was a cub. As much as Spaki was sometimes bull-headed, he wasn't an idiot.

"My name is Meilin," Liquid pools of silver narrowed as her muscles tensed ever so slightly with a quiver of detestation, how she loathed the title that she was about to have to spit out next, but she did so with calm, even if you could still hear the tension in her voice at the mere mention of the rank she'd been assigned. She didn't have to think of herself as such, but to keep safe until a chance for escape presented itself, she had no choice but to declare her rank in this pride. "Lord Kimeti's slave.... And this is Uuo."

With a growl, she reluctantly followed suit to Meilin, having more to loose should her cover be blown. "Tamu'meka's slave."

~Uppity b*****d...~ She added silently in her head.

Yup, they were both slaves. He blinked, for a moment allowing himself to feel exited when hearing lord Kimeti's name, but then frowning when he once again heard slave.

He agreed with his dad on mostly everything, Ra was a traditionalist, mostly. But Ny, his mother, wasn't. And he did agree with her on one thing; slavery was useless.

"I don't get slaves. " He muttered for a moment. He didn't get the point; slaves weren't from the desert. So they wouldn't know how to hunt here that well. And besides, how strong would they prove to be, if they needed slaves to do their work?! He looked back at the two, however, and after a quick glance around, for lack of anything better to say.

"Nice to meet you, " He wasn't sure, again, if this should be said to a slave. "Er... when did you two get caught? " Well, what other small-talk could he make?

Didn't get slaves? as in, didn't recieve, or didn't understand? Meilin was sure he meant he didn't understand. Were cubs this young given slaves?? Surely not adults, if so... "On the border... I was looking for my sister." She confessed, an undertone of regret in her voice. She'd finally gotten a lead on where Ausi could be found, and then she'd been captured here... She truely would die without seeing her littermate again, it seemed.

"Same. I was just minding my own damn business." Uuo shook her head. "And at least that makes two of us. Making outsiders do your work for you? Some strong pride."

"Your sister.. " He mused a bit. He felt kind of bad for this Meilin now; he'd look for his sister too! He blinked as uuo openly stated how she felt about firekin. Geez, this lady was brave.

"I know! " He squeaked, before having a chance to stop himself, and slinked quietly behind one of the large lionesses paws, perhaps unintentionally, and peering around. He hoped no one had heard that.

"But it is dumb, isn't it? " He whispered, hoping that from here, only they could hear. "I love my pride but.. The whole slave thing. Its kinda dumb! Its.. its.. blasphemy! " Yes, he liked the word he'd learned from Aza.

A soft snort indicated that Meilin was bemused, and possibly had taken a shallow liking to this cub if only for his blunt honesty and opinion. Most children didn't know how to be anything but tactlessly honest, however, but this one had the good sense to hush down what he spoke openly about and what he didn't. "Well... best be cautious who you share that opinion with. The problem with pride and loyalty is that they often times can overrule the other..."

Those he thought were friends might run and tell what he said in hopes of preserving the pride's way of life, and if there was one thing Meilin couldn't stand the idea of, it was a cub being dragged into her messes, or anyone elses for that matter. Children should be allowed to be children...

"Blasphemy?"

Uuo let out a deep laugh at that, her head rolling back a bit. She sat carefully, mindful not to sit on Spaki by mistake. As she calmed down, red eyes peered down at the cub at her paws.

"Well, I doubt if the rest of your pride thinks that's the right word for it. Blasphemy is when you say something that goes against someone elses belief."

"Well I certainly agree that it's blasphemy." Meilin chuckled a little bit.

"I know. " He frowned. Spaki longed to be a strong, respectable lion. But the firekin took in slaves, wasn't that cowardly? How could he ever peek out from here? As proud as he was to be from this lineage-- he wished they'd just cut out the slaves.

He grinned a bit as Uuo corrected him. "I learned that word the other day! When Aza was trying to chase off a traitor. " Well, to him, traitor was a good enough word for that annoying yellow female.

A traitor, was it? That was interesting... Somehow Meilin was curious of this, though a traitor of the Firekin was likely even more dangerous, just as possible that they were an ally to rogues.

"Well, Moto'Spaki, I have to admit it's refreshing to meet one of the Firekin who see things with a bit of logic. It's nice to meet you."

"Especially since this is the most I've heard her say since we met. She must like you." Uuo smirked at Meilin, ignoring the withering glare that the king's slave sent back in return.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 08, 2007 5:50 pm

"We're not all bad. " Spaki shrugged. To him, just about every firekin he'd met so far was nice-- but he didn't know about the way they saw the whole slave situation. He frowned, folding his ears back for a moment, but did seem pleased to be praised, however.

"But I think things will change. " His mother had mentioned Kidondo, the way-ward prince. Kimeti had exiled him, but Spaki, mostly because of his mother, was sure things would change. He was a cub, still rather simple minded. He couldn't define what would change-- he just thought something would be different.

For a moment, he distracted himself. He was still behind one of Uuo's front paws, and now that he tohught about it.. "Your paws are fuzzy, "

"I suppose not. Don't judge a croc by how lazy it floats, and all that." Meilin sighed, agreeing. Perhaps there were some Firekin out there that weren't all bad, but the problem being, how would you know one when you met them if they all acted like they were a part of the pride? "I certainly hope. For all the rogues passing by these borders, and for our sake, I certainly hope."

"Yes, I'm from the mountains. Let me assure you, all this extra fur is a pain in the a**." Another sharp look from Meilin, not that Uuo cared. Language smanguage. Let the kid pick up a few words, it wasn't like he wouldn't learn them as he grew older.

He couldn't think of much more to say in relation to slaved, but give a small nod, then poke one of Uuo's extra fluffs, after snorting a small laugh at the word a**; his mum probably wouldn't like it if he said that! "I bet its worse here. At least you're not black! " He nodded smartly. "My sister and my brother are both really black. So they get very hot. "

He shrugged. He was glad to be a white firekin like his mum, the sun didn't feel as hot Now, he'd never been in his siblings skin to know how it really felt but just by touching them, he felt very hot.

"Mm. That I'm lucky for. I think I'd be dead from the heat otherwise. So, who are your parents?"

Morbid curiosity, perhaps. The lioness almost wondered if his parents had any connection to the lion she called "Master".

Meilin fell silent again, all too content to watch rather than participate in the conversation as her thoughts drifted down a familiar beaten path. She wondered how a certain dark lioness was doing, and a particular blue rogue male, striped in black. It was more than likely that she'd never live to see either Ausi'juu or Vian again, and suddenly she felt heavy with regret for all the things left unsaid, all the things that she hadn't done with her life, like spending more time with family, starting one of her own, but mostly she regretted not being able to protect her sister. At least she knew now that she was safe, but seeing her one last time, that chance to say goodbye...

She stood up again then, little to no warning, and glanced to both parties with a surprisingly neutral and blank expression.

"Excuse me... I'll be on my way now. I should hunt before it grows late, Lord Kimeti doesn't take kindly to being kept waiting."
