Gil sat impatiently in the kitchen, drumming his fingers on the table with one hand. In the other he carefully clutched the invitation they had received from Dori and Chris. Bright green eyes stated at the phone in his guardian's hand, willing it to dial itself faster . It was taking too long, he wanted to see his friend now.

Malen leaned against the kitchen wall and listened to the phone ring. He too was excited about the prospect of seeing the only other neighbors they'd met so far again. Christian and Dorian has both been entertaining and he knew that Gil looked forward to having someone his age to play with.

" Hey, it's me. Gil and I just got the invitation. Gil is glaring holes at me to call you back and accept. How are things on your end?" Malen figured Dori was probably as impatient as Gil. Kids at that age usually were.

Gil didn't quite understand how he was glaring holes in Malen but as long as it got him to talk so they could go see Dori he didn't much care.

Malen laughed " Sounds like the boys miss each other about the same. Tonight is fine, I think Gil might combust if he had to wait longer and Del is with Kishi for the night so I don't have to worry about her. Just give me a bit to get some stuff together ok?" Malen figured he could also use the time to shove some manner's into Gil's head.

Gil grinned, soon he could see Dori again and tell him about his lessons and that hazard missed him and all the stuff he saw on the t.v at night.

" Alright and yes about a half hour and we'll be there, see you then." With a smile Malen hung up the phone and looked at Gil " come on we need to pack some things and have a talk."

Gil practically leapt off his chair and raced towards his room " Ok,I know which jammies I want, the ones that glow in the dark with the stars. " Gil wondered what Dorian slept in, he had several jammies but loved the glow in the dark ones best becuase they were fun to count the glow in the dark parts and they helped him see his way to the bathroom.

Malen followed just shaking his head, Tonight was going to be a riot he was sure of that. At least he'd have Chris to commiserate with.

" You're slow" Gil admonished Malen from his back. In too much of a hurry to be able to get his shoes tied properly he'd been taken pity on and given a piggy back ride to Dori's house.. it was fun and the world looked a bit different from higher up. However, his guardian moved way too slow for his liking. he wanted to be there now not in a million years.

Malen just shook his head and said nothing. he was carrying both Gil and small dufflebag full of things deemed necessary for the overnight stay. He was going at his own pace and Gil would just have to deal, besides it's not like it took that long to get from their house to Christian and Dorian's.


A few minutes later he was at their door and proceed to knock while Gil wriggled in excitement.

Gil paused for a moment then nodded. it had all happened to so fasm't he'd slid to the ground as the door opened and had barely been inside before he'd been hugged. Fortunately there had been no kissing. Gil had seen on the t.v that hugs lead to kissing which looked really gross, hugs alone were ok though.

"Yeah, I bet you have really cool stuff." It made him wonder what sort of toys Dorian had to already have them out and ready to be used. Gil usually had to dig througg his box of toys to find something.

He turned his head for a moment and looked at Christian " Thank you for inviting us over." Malen had insisted he be polite when he came over and be thankful.


Malen laughed " I walk too slow apparently. It's becuase we're old you see, we can't move as fast as those young ones." He was amused and then pleased as Gil remembered his manners.

Gil had been greatfull to get away from having to use manners. They were silly and made everything take longer when you talked. Upon entering Dori's room Gil looked around for a moment to take everything in. Everything seemed so different from his own room, though not in a bad way. " You do have a lot of cool stuff."

Looking at Dori Gil tilted his head preparing for question asking. He'd seen people do it on t.v, he didn't know why but it looked fun." So which stuff should we play with first." Surely they'd get through all the toys before the night was through.

With the boys gone Malen just rolled his eyes, " I may be old just I bet I could still take you in a fight even with your on your side." Malen was nearly thirty but he was still in good shape he had lost none of the skills he had hones as a bounty hunter over the years.

Gil looked at the cars, shiny and sleek looking. They certainly looked like they were fun to play with." Yes we could have races and crashes and stuff." Gil had seen cars on T.V and on the road but he didn't really know much about them as of yet, just that they could be raced and crashed.


Malen had rolled his eyes when Christian had batted his eyes. It reminded him of Kay and his weakling of an adopted child was not something he cared to think of at the moment.

" Just water is good as long as it's cold" Malen had put on a few pounds of fat lately and while he wasn't narcissistic he couldn't afford in his lien of work to drag aroudn extra weight. He was working the less dangerous cases these days but he still had to go out and hunt down some rough bastards. Rather nasty ones when the requests were personal favors for Talon.

" Things have been good, I've gotten Gil ready to start school and Del is getting more independent. Talked to Kishi on the phone recently and she's job hunting" The older man smiled proudly " Makes me feel like a success you know. Gaia keeps throwing kids at me but I think I'm doing ok with them."
