There are currently five species of main animals available in Shadows of Africa: lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, and hyenas. Along with this, there are three hybrids (lion x leopard, lion x cheetah, and leopard x cheetah). There are also the lion-like 'gods.' Familiars for the shop include waterbuck, ratels, avians, jackals, maned wolves, genets, hares, klipspringers, snakes, and servals.

Some lineart is unique for individuals, or has been retired. This accounts for any 'unique' lineart currently existing.

Main animals, hybrids, and gods come in four stages (Cub/Pup, Juvenile, Adolescent, and Adult). Familiars come in two stages (Cub/Pup and Adult).

Note: In each individual section, the male lineart is always listed first.

Cub/Pup (Green) - From birth to early childhood, this is the 'cute and bumbling' stage where the cub or puppy goes from being deaf and blind to a tiny little troublemaker, curious about everything. They're most vulnerable to predators during this stage, and often need some protection if they wish to survive.

Juvenile (Red) - The 'young teen' years, juveniles are in that troubling time between cubhood and adolescence. They are often a handful, occasionally rebelling against their parents and being generally obnoxious at times.

Adolescent (Blue) - The 'late teen' years, adolescents are on the brink of adulthood. This is the time when young male lions of most prides are forced to leave the pride. Both males and females can breed during this period, although it's much like a teenage pregnancy and is not always looked upon with favor by others.

Adult (Black) - The final stage, adults have finally grown into themselves, both physically and (we hope) mentally. They are able to start their own pack, clan, coalition, or pride, if they wish, or their own family.

Lions are the second-largest cat in the world, behind the tiger, and may weigh up to 500 pounds. They have a lifepsan of 10-14 years in the wild. They mainly feed on larger mammals such as wildebeest, zebras, impala, giraffes, buffalo, and others. Some prides have been seen to take down full-grown elephants, as well. Lions will have 1-6 offspring, although rogue (lone) lions may find it more difficult to hunt for and support a large family. Rogues may come in all different shapes and sizes, although they are generally smaller than both Pridelanders and Motoujamii.

Pridelander lions are slightly larger than rogues, although not as large as the Motoujamii. Common colors seen in Pridelanders are oranges/yellows/reds/browns.

The Motoujamii are the largest lions, at the moment. Their coat colors generally consist of varying shades of red, with the occasional black or white lion.

The Umande'mfuni are smaller-than-average lions, although not as small as the Ela'wadiyi. Their coat colors are predominantly grays, blues, and whites, with the occasional black.

The Ela'wadiyi are typically the smallest types of lions on the savannah. Their coat colors are very natural (blacks, browns, whites, and grays), and members of the pride have tattoos over their entire body that symbolize their nature and accomplishments (or failures). They receive more tattoos the older they get.

The Bahari'mtoto have curly, thick fur, as the result of living so close to the ocean.

Leopards are the tree-climber cats of the savannah. They are opportunistic feeders; they'll feed on just about any animal. Leopards have 1-6 cubs.

Cheetahs are easily the fastest mammal in Africa...for only short distances, of course. They feed on smaler hooved animals, such as impala and gazelle. Cheetahs will have 1-5 cubs.

The Mpinzani are reasonably small dogs and those with the pack blood are normally fluffier then normal wild dogs due to where the pack lives.

Lion x leopard hybrids often combine a mixture of both species' traits. Few are fertile, but those that may produce cubs have 1-3 cubs.
