Hidaya'Ua sat, pawing at the water in a water hole. It wasn't the one central to the Pride, it was out farther in the lands. In the distance, the cliff wall rose high into the sky, it was an amazing sight. However, the little cub took no notice of it on this day. Ua slowly touched the water's flat surface, trying her best to leave it as undisturbed as possible. She was annoyed beyond words (literally) that she couldn't speak. She knew how to talk, she could mouth the words, and if only her throat would work as it should... Not even a rhasp. She tried once more, mouthing the words, I can speak, but once again, and unsurprisingly, no sound came out other than the sound of exhaling. She could feel her eyes start to well up with tears of absolute frustration as she took a swipe at the water, trying to yell out, but once again, having no luck. Her vocal cords just weren't grown in yet, but she hated it.

Embamba was worried. Ua had gone missing earlier that day, she'd noticed, even if no one else had yet. She had tried the usual places, making her way slowly across the Mteo lands, careful not to get herself lost, and with lots of rest points along the way. Finally, in one of the back corners of the lands, the female spotted a little white and pink cub, bright against the landscape. She sighed in relief, plodding over before the cub could even think to run away, and fell down gracefully beside her. "Uuuaaa," She sing-songed, "what are you doing out here so far from home?"

Ua's ears flopped back as her grandmother approached. She was losing her grip. Unable to hold the tears back any longer, she clung to her grandmother's forepaw and let out would-be wimpers. "Everything is so frustrating," she mouthed, though she knew she would go unheard. "And not even you can understand me," she looked up, black eyes desperate for someone- anyone- to comprehend her. "do you?" She mouthed, mentally urging any sound to come out. Nobody had ever really understood her. Her family had a pretty good grasp on what the female meant. She was becoming good at sketching in the sand, if she needed, but she wanted so badly just to speak.

Embamba's head jerked back as the child rather suddenly lunged for her, but instinct drew her paws around the girl and brought her up against her chest. The silent mouth flapping at her was distressing, though Embamba had gotten somewhat used to it. "Shhh," She cooed, lapping gently at Ua's cheek to wipe away the tears. "Its okay, Ua..." She didn't think the girl was hurt for she didn't smell blood and Ua didn't seem to be favoring anything. Still, Embamba gave the cub a quick glance over to make certain--asking her may upset her. Still mouthing wasn't at all understandable on longer sentances, even then words needed to be over 'pronounced' and slow in order to fully understand them without any accompanying sound. Yet, there was that other form of speech that others seemed to forget all together.

The distress written over Ua's body language, which couldn't be silenced as it had no voice, was more than obvious. The girl was frustrated, that much was obvious, and from the mouthing Embamba didn't have a terrible time of guessing what. " You're not alone, Ua," She murmured to her granddaughter, "Even if you can't talk to us a lot of the time, we're still here with you, you know. We'll figure out a way to speak with you soon."

Ua calmed down at her grandma's voice. She always seemed to know what she was talking about. Big wet eyes turned up to her. "Really?" she "said" more calmly. The idea that someday soon she'd be able to speak to someone, anyone, was absolutely thrilling. She would be able to convey a message as fast as she could think it! A little smile pulled at the corners of her mouth, she was happy with the idea.

Embamba gave her a lick to the maw, a comforting sort of familial kiss. "Really," That wasn't too hard to understand given the mouth movements. The elder lioness drug her cheek along Ua's to dry the tears then nuzzled the top of her head. "But you shouldn't be wandering so far from the den; not yet, young thing."

A laugh vibrated through the elder's chest. It was hot out here, and though by water the cubs weren't at all old enough to hunt by themselves. Even then, there were predators that would love a tiny lion cub for breakfast. She nipped the cub's ear in a gentle reprimand then stood, "Come on, you, lets get back, mm?" It wasn't much of a question, but she cooed it gently so that it wasn't half as harsh as it may have been. The lioness took a few steps back in the direction she'd come, then looked over her shoulder to make sure Ua was following.

Ua sniffled and nodded. Grandma was right; it probably hadn't been too smart come meandering out here all alone. While Ua wasn't as cautious as her brother Genge, she could probably benefit from picking up some of his carefulness. She followed after the earthy-brown lioness, wondering if she'd need to take it slower than Ua's normal pace. She knew her grandma had some sort of chronic sickness or something; she was always weaker than most. This is why she bore no tattoos like Raza did... Mom had said those were for huntresses and that Grandma couldn't hunt.

She decided to get out of her slump and caught up with her grandma, looking up and smiling at her for no apparent reason.

Embamba smiled back down at her young daughter, more than a little happy to have found her well and whole. Poor young thing... but she seemed to be doing well enough. Either way.... Embamba was glad to have her as a granddaughter. Together they headed back to the pride in silence.
