A Note: I am aware that Time is on the no-custom list; however, it is my hope that the jewel may someday be available through auction or some other means. And as this was the very first jewel concept I ever wanted, originally (before Illumin showed up) - and the last one I'd like to obtain... the quest stands. Even if it never becomes a reality.
That and my protomuses enjoy being noisy. XP
Funds: A few lovely items, long since set aside for this purpose. heart

Andros' History and the Finding of the Jewel:
This requires a bit of long, complicated explanation. So here goes.
Andros comes from a world referred to as Terra with a string of numbers after it, which he can never remember because Andros has a terrible head for numbers. The people of that world are quite aware that they are one among many, one variant of a near-infinite possible range of themes on a particular worldtype. Call it Earth, call it Terra, call it what you like, it's the third planet from the star Sol. The variations are so many and so wild that sometimes it seems the world's placement in the cosmos is the only constant between them all.
On Andros' Terra, five-fold elemental magic is a vital part of society. Pyromancers control fire; aquamancers, water; aeromancers, air; geomancers, earth; and chronomancers, time. This power is integrated into modern culture, and the use of such magic makes the world exceptionally stable. Government-paid aeromancer teams control the weather, for example, and geomancers aid in mining and in ensuring earthquake-free movement of the tectonic plates.
As for chronomancers, they work mostly in an odd form of insurance - stationed here and there in public places or in private residences by those that can afford to do so, paid to rewind time to right wrongs or correct dire accidents. Most chronomancers can rewind ten minutes at most.
The highest level of mage is the Adept-class, and Adept-class chronomancers are sent to another world (or more properly, a world-between-worlds) called the Nexus. In the Nexus, many beings endowed with temporal power - called 'kairomancers' - patrol and protect the timestreams of worlds they have pacts with. Terra's pact with the Nexus ensures the safety of their timelines... in exchange for all Adept-class chronomancers.
Andros himself is a chronomancer, though of average talent. After graduating from the Circle of Five Springs, he found himself a job in insurance like most mages of his element and skill - but that soon took its toll. It was stressful work, and even though he could usually rewind and fix things, that didn't change the intervals of horror that were erased from every mind but his own. Andros searched for a different outlet during his legally enforced downtime - and that was when he was found by a group named RTU.
RTU was an organization of retired and 'missing' chronomancers who felt the stranglehold the government and the Nexus had on advanced time manipulation was holding humanity back. While Andros felt uneasy about their goals, the research they had conducted and their laboratories and experiments were appealing to him. He faked a breakdown to get out of work and onto a government pension - psychological breaks being not uncommon among working chronomancers in some professions - and joined with the organization.
Andros soon found himself happily enmeshed in research and development for time travel, and within five years his engineering team had developed a prototype time machine, dubbed the Aethon Device (Aethon being the name of one of the four horses that pulled the sun-chariot in classical mythology). The Aethon Device was a spacesuit-like construction for one, piloted by the wearer, theoretically capable of traveling backwards in time and then returning to the point of origination.
Andros was chosen to pilot the Aethon Device on its maiden voyage - as one of the newer members of RTU, he was seen as more expendable than the more seasoned engineers and researchers who had also worked on the project. This wasn't exactly reassuring, but despite his misgivings it was still a dream come true.
Test day arrived, and Andros suited up and prepared for departure. They had scheduled a battery of tests to test the full capability of the Aethon Device - ranging from the first, a jump of only a few hours and back, to the last - a jump of over a million years.
The first test was successful. And the second. And the third - the Aethon Device performed wonderfully, with the returns flawless each time. At last it was time for the final test, and Andros pressed the controls to jump with hardly a thought. It had become almost routine.
But while the other jumps had brought strange sights to his eyes, none had been unexpected - this time, though, the Aethon Device arrived in darkness with a single column of light in the center, and a figure crouched within it - one with pale skin and arched wings, cradling another form. Andros was sure it was a statue until he heard a faint sound... and the Aethon's sensors were detecting life.
He knew he should have jumped away immediately, but the beauty of the scene captivated him. The beings were amazing, larger-than-life, and the graceful sorrow in the form of the mourner was the most astonishing thing Andros had ever seen.
And then, they noticed him.
The mourning one turned suddenly, eyes narrowed, but the one cradled put one hand up, and with difficulty struggled to lift its head. Andros was caught in a gaze that seemed deep as the earth, no, as the tunnels of null-time itself...
It smiled.
Only then did Andros panic. He turned and ran, not looking to see if he was being followed, and issued the return command as he moved. The Aethon Device took a moment to recharge and respond, but at last the gentle waves of null-time crashed over him and washed the strange scene away. Andros heaved a sigh of relief even as he trembled. What had that all been about?
All at once, every warning light on the Aethon's heads-up display went bright red, and the nulltime began to warp around it. Then, with a last screel of the warning system, the Aethon Device abruptly lost all power.
The last thing Andros heard was the ping and crack of rupturing metal before his senses failed him.
Andros was found on the floor of the Pantheon in present-day, before the Throne, surrounded by the rusting and rotten remains of the Aethon Device. It had been warped and aged to dust and scraps around him, and he had fared little better. He would have arrived dust and rot himself had it not been for the strange aura hovering around him, the last breath of power - that had saved him from death, but not from aging.
Lord Harmodius recognized the old man as the one he had seen in the twenty-first Age, at the death of Kairos... and smiled at the power he saw around the man, the last breath of Time that had both protected and summoned hir perfect host. He knelt to press the jewel containing Time's essence into Andros' chest.
((As a side note, Andros' world is the same as Sosiqui's original world - they went to the same school, at the same time, and he vaguely knew of her. She dated his brother Tanith for a while.))
