While this article itself doesn't have any actual examples of "txt-tlk", the attitude it promotes is definitely not to be encouraged. Quote: - GRAMMAR BE DAMNED! - No one cares about punctuation or proper grammar, so don't go bonkers searching for the apostrophe on your phone. Remember, not everyone is texting via BlackBerry or Treo.

The phrase "no one cares" annoys me a lot. A general rule of thumb I've found is that, when someone utters it, nearly without exception, what they really mean is "I don't care". Not nearly as strong in its effect, is it? 3nodding

If no one cares, then why does the Gaian Grammar Guild exist? How very irritating and troublesome... Vakruz, you're right, if one says 'no one cares', then they are say that they don't care. I hate it when people generalize...

I am going to act a bit silly in this way but, is their name nobody? I see many people who care.
My translation:
"Nobody cares." equals "I don't care."
He must be named nobody to make this true! Yet, it would be true in poor grammer. They would be calling themselves by their own name, not "I".

Dear god. I read this whole thing, and while I'm normally a pacifist, I want to kill him.
"No one cares"? What about the writers and English teachers? Or those of use who want to understand what is being said?!
I'll stop now or else I'll take up the whole page.

-.- The idiocy of some people perturbs me. I actually ran into someone that cared too much. We were doing a paper correction thing and she kept trying to reword things that I had written properly. One of those change the meaning type of things. I made sure that my wording was less ambiguous the next time around.
Unfortunately, I was getting on to my l10-year-old brother about "txt talking" earlier and he said the same thing "Who cares?" Of course I told him I cared and if he butchered the English language again, I would talk to him with an instant messenger. Now all I have to deal with is excessive emoticons.

I am rather guilty of this when I text but I don't use apostrophes and things when I do contractions. Mostly because I'm in such a hurry to text back that I don't bother to look. But, I at the very least type everything out except for the occasional "lol."

Y'know, I don't have those sort of phones and I STILL use the apostrophe. I have a Samsung Wafer. Small buttons and no real punctuation keys. Top that, article writers of stupidity. smile
