What do you think of anime companies changing series names?
I like it, because some of the Japanese titles are hard to remember/pronounce.

I am fine with it, as long as the title change describes the series well.

I am fine with it, but only if the change is a direct translation.

I do not like it, because the name is usually changed to something dumb.

This is a poll asking how you feel about anime and manga companies changing the titles to anime and manga. (NOT character anem changes.)

For example, the changing of "Mahou Tsukai Tai!" to "Magic Users Club", or "Weiss Kruez" to "Knight Hunters".

I think it's alright to change the name as long as it's a direct translation and if the name sounds good. Some names don't need to be changed at all because most of the time the English name is stupid and the Japanese one already fits it perfectly.

I am fine with the change as long as it makes sense. Like when Tokyopop changed the name of Groove Adventure RAVE to RAVE Master. I could also say the same thing about changing Saint Seiya to Knights of the Zodiac(although I don't like how changed the anime was for its American version)

I prefer when they use the original title and put the direct translation written below it, in smaller letters or something.

It really depends for me. Some anime are already well known under their orginal name so it's silly to change those.

there should be an option that says "because it causes mass confusion" when im talking to another otaku and im like "midori n ohibi rocks" and their like "i heard of an anime called midori days" and im like "hibi prolly pwnz that gy name show!!"

but they're the same damn thing.

I don't really pay attention to dub names, because I always go to import stores to buy my anime. Better selection, in my opinion

I agree with this. If it means the same thing, then it can be translated (if it makes sense to... for example, if it's less complicated that way; for example, Full Metal Alchemist). But I don't like when the name is changed entirely, like "Tokyo Mew Mew" to "Mew Mew Power". Err, very unnecessary and stupid, but I guess it's not THAT bad. I mean, there are worse things...

I'm fine with name changes as long as it is a direct translation. Example:

Hagane no RenkinJutsushi to Fullmetal Alchemist.

Personally I don't have a problem with them changing a name such as- if it's a Japanese name to a direct translation or something similar to that translation. I really hate it when they Americanize titles- like Tokyo Mew Mew to Mew Mew Power. I usually get used to the Japanese names, but I mean it's no big deal. Like Fubara and Fruits Basket, I know people who call it both. One series that comes to mind is Gankustuou and for the American release they named it Count of Monte Crisco (the Animation . . . I believe they added the animation to it). And true Gankustuou is an anime based of the Count of Monte Crisco novel . . . I just think Gankustuou sounds cooler and it fits once you see the series . . . though company switched the name so people would know what it's about.

"Mahou Tsukai Tai!" to "Magic Users Club" = okay
"Tokyo Mew Mew" to "Mew Mew Power" = stupid

A translation isn't really changing the name of the show, so I'm fine with it. But taking a perfectly good translation and changing it to something completely different just doesn't make sense. The same for changing the names of the characters. So the pronounciations may be a little difficult at first. So what? Kids can listen, can't they? Sorry if I'm ranting here, but it seems like some companies seem to think that American children wouldn't be able to handle it if they found out their favorite TV shows were coming from another country. A great example of this is when Kanji signs are actually blurred. Not painted over or translated, but blurred, as if they were something bad that children shouldn't be seeing. What's the point? Are there any kids that are really so sensitive that they would freak out if they saw foreign writing? scream
