Umo lazed quietly in the shade, dark paws crossed. He sighed heavily, his crimson eyes shut as he dozed. His fluffy mane fell into his face, as usual. Only now it covered his cheek, where a nice scar lay across his dark hide. It was no longer tender, but he was self conscious of it. He wiggled himself deeper into the soft grass-smiling to himself in his comfort. Life was good, despite the confrontation he had with Tope. He was with his mate and they were safe. That was all he cared about.

Now, all there was to do was to think-what would life be without his little trouble maker son? Memories of his sons playing together, the first times-the last times... Good things and bad. The births of his children. The memories... Everything was good.

Dumu's paws carried him away from where he had just departed from the best thing he could have ever have. But it was for the best, he could not afford to hurt him anymore and he surely could not handle another hit himself. His eyes fell to the ground as his memories of his closest friend as he tutored and cuddled with. Thinking about the male just made him ache even more. He had to get over him. Get over what he had represented. Retain all that he taught to survive on his own for a while. Get over it all. After all, it was just a phase.... right?

His attentioned snapped his head to the side as something hit him. That scent and some strange feeling that felt so familiar made him look in that direction. He paused. Could he trust this feeling and go that way or... should he be more wary about the things he felt after what he has been through lately.

But that feeling... it felt like he had had it many times before... but he could not remember what it was. He looked in the direction again and slowly moved that way.

"Nothing gained, what not ventured."

Umo wondered what his son was doing, if he was okay... if he was scared. HIs first born son, the one he felt was not ready for the world-was gone. Worse enough, was that Tope left his brother Ardhi to be by himself. Umo's son Ardhi, the dark colored son, shook horrible sometimes and grew ill when they came. Tope was the one he had bonded with-and the thought of his two sons snuggling together as cubs, warmed Umo's heart. Umo loved all his children... but he felt a deep love for his two sons. Something about the fact his own spawn, male-half his being and half his wifes being. ^^

Ahh, the thought of Kikawaida's warm pink eyes. HE felt a warmth deep in his chest. He loved his mate more than anything and would die for her. If it had come too it-he would have stayed at the swamplands and faced his death-like he was supposed too. He had broken the rules of the swamps-and he would have stayed and payed-but... He had followed Kika and the cubs.

Umo sighed deeply, a smile on his face. Even though his sons departure was very very hurtful for this brutish fellow-he still found things to make him happy. Umo thought he could hear something like words drifting in the soft wind-making his ears twitch-but he listened harder and heard nothing-so he wiggled into his warm spot on the ground.

"Umo?" a small, dark red head popped over the horizon and moved himself carefully over to the large male. He had no need to be cautious, it looked like Umo and that was all he needed to trust this male. He smiled and moved forth with a slight smile. It had been some time since the male had seen him, after all, Dumu has grown some with his mane and all.

Quickly looking around, it seemed that there was no one else around.

"Hey, Umo..." he chuckled. "I haven't seen you in a long time," he laid down comfortable just a little ways from. It has been a long time since they saw each other and he was not sure if Umo was as welcoming as he was before. Perhaps, the male has even forgotten him after the few cycles.

"Where's Tope? I don't see him around."

Umo wondered when it would be when his eldest daughter, Kinamasi-would return too the swamps-to find that her parents were gone. The thought, of that, of his child no knowing his were-a-bouts... hurt him. His face grimaced. Then, a voice echoed through his head. Someone calling his name, and in his mind a small boy-cub, prancing happily. His eyes popped open, blinking around in surprise. A familiar face in these strange parts, just outside the pridelands.

Umo finally spotted the voice he had heard so long ago. A warm smile crept across his face as he rose, his enormous bulk shaking the dirt from his dark pelt. He moved forward-his thoughts of sorrow and fear behind. Seeing a face from his 'past' was enough to make his old cub loving pudge ball excited.

"Dumu!" He exclaimed, a bounce in his step as he bounded to his young friend, flopping down onto the ground close too him. HIs tail twitched as his happiness bubbled. "Oh, look at you..." He said, his deep monotone voice ringing in the air.

The topic had already turned too his son, and Umo felt the urge to hide his cheek-to hide the scar that Tope had left on his departure. "Tope... he departed from us about a month ago..." He said, a kind of sadness on his face. Tope was not quiet old enough to be on his own-and it worried Umo. He had hoped to see his sons and daughters off on their naming quest-but that would never happen now. They were an exiled family.

"I am surprised to see you. I thought we would see no one from the swamplands. Since our exile..."

Dumu smiled.

"If Tope left, I guess that means that he thought he was old enough to live in solitude... well, at least we could hope so. Besides, you don't think that he will hate his family forever, right?" The dark red male laid down idly, watching the larger male with intent. He had feelings that Umo was going to end up this way, sad, but he never knew it was going to this extent nor the reasons why. His touch when he was a cub only gave him a glimpse. He paused before opening his maw, closing it.

"Your exile...that I did not foresee, that is unfortunate, Umo. I won't dig up anything, like ask you why, but at least tell me how everyone is doing now," he asked. He had not seen him nor his mate, in fact, he had not met anyone beside Tope and Umo since he was a cub, never quite met anyone else in the family. He knew not too much about the male and his family besides that he reeked of stinky water and was in himself often wet at the paws.

Dumu smiled and rose up, walking in a circle, showing off how he had grown since last met. The scars upon his right side, Umo already knew, but they were slowly fading in presence. His fur was slightly dirty since he was quite bad at keeping himself clean and even that, it still shined from time to time. His dark red mane matched his fur, falling nicely over his eyes that still glowed a tint violet. His silver eye upon his forhead was dull now, no longer shining brightly as it did before when the sun hit it. He had grown some, maybe an inch or four, but his body was strong as his fur rippled over the muscles he obtained for living alone with a partner such as his... best not say.

"I grew quite well, if I do say so myself."

Umo chuckled sheepishly. He in reality, thought Tope would do well-on his own... but he would have prefered a better leaviing that what had happened. Alot of screaming-yelling... alot of pain. His cheek, a memory scar-mcuh like what Dumu had upon his pelt... only Umo was pretty sure Dumu did not receive his from his son. His crimson eyes squeezed shut in a smile-thought still sheepish-he spoke in his usual tone. "Well... in truth... He is not very fond of me apaprently... since I was the one that caused the exilement-and I do not mind sharing..." he said, his eyes calm and collected. He admired young Dumu's-well actually-not so young-but he admired this little fellow-since he first met him-which seemed like so long ago.

He watched Dumu and admired his changes in body. He wondered what Tope and Ardhi would look like at this age... The mane that would soon be large and puffy-almost full... muscles.. It was quiet a change. "You have grown magnificantly I must say... soon you will outgrow my size-I do not doubt." He said, a smile creeping across his face. Umo did take note of the not so shining eye on Dumu's forehead and recalled at how bright it had been as a child. He shook it off thought-it was not unciommon to change a bit in color as age progressed. **Grey hairs GAH DD:**

Umo looked too the young male... and said with a warm gesture from his paw-"I really never thought I would see anyone I used to know here... Perhaps if you can find me... my daughter will be able to as well." His tail wiggled happily. "It is good to see freindly faces"

Dumu chuckled a little at his body, toned down from when he had hunted with Ewan and mostly building himself for his own self-esteem. Granted, he had a feeling that Akiiki, the more physical brother, was bigger than he was. Got to keep one's self up to par. "Outgrow my size" those words pained him. Umo did not know that as of that moment, the very lion before him will remain so for the rest of his mortal born life. He did not know of the cursed blood he had carried and capable of passing on. No one knew but his family... and Ewan. He just smiled the best he could.

"Y-Yeah, some day, but I don't think anytime soon. I mean, I haven't really been eating too well, meager rations with rabbits and what nots..."

"So I see, Tope had left. From what you are telling me, I can say this, mind you it is a guess," he sighed and looked at him directly in the eyes. "Tope was angry at you because of you were the cause of the family's exilement. Because you broke a rule of the pride of the swamp, remember, I know your scent, and they must have exiled you. I guess growing up as a rogue life style, he must have wished he was back at the swamps. Realizing that it was your fault, you two argued. One thing led to another and you got hurt and he ran off. Did I hit close to home?"

Umo smiled won at Dumu. This boy seemed to be one of the last few friends he had from back home-where he had hoped to raise many litters of cubs and live with Kika in comfort... In some ways- he was sort of sad to see his friends child after all this time. He smiled, laughing after a moment. It may not mean much-but when I was a rouge I was still a bit large. He said with a laugh. placing a big old paw on his stomach.

He listened to Dumu's guess and shook his head, a sheepish grin. It hurt... the fact that if Umo had just walked away and not witnessed the birth of his second batch of children... but something about leaving his mate-in her time of pain and fear-made him stay... only to have his son-one who looked so much like himself-say such cruel things. Yes... you guessed very well HE said, a bit sheepishly. I sometimes think he is right...

"Well, my family have always been rogues, mother, father, brother, and I... but we seem to be different in ways that nature has intended. I mean, I am still small," he chuckled as he looked up at Umo. He would always be this way, smaller than the others. Secretly, he cursed himself for admitting that he was. It seemed that he didn't when he was with Ewan because he was relatively small himself, but perhaps that was because... no reason except the way he was born.

"If it what you are saying is true, my guessing right, then I would guess that you were doing what you thought best," Dumu tried his best to comfort him. It may be hurtful but it was the truth and fact, and his own opinion. "What you did, for whatever reason it was, it must have been in your nature to break that rule. Something strong in your heart drove you to do what you did and it felt right to you, but viewed by others, perhaps not. I'm not going to ask you what you did, I can wait until you tell me, however, just remember as long as it felt right, what does anyone else have to tell you that it was wrong?"

"Tope has his own opinions and you your own. You are the father, but you did not push for authority and dominance over your own and in itself is your own fault... but you are too kind for that. Too kind to overpower another, especially your own son. You are too kind for that," he smiled. "At least, you know you have me and your mate, right?"

Umo admired his young friend. So many hardships shined in Dumu's eyes... The fact that-Umo stood up for what he beleived in-to be with his mate at all times-and be against the words/thoughts and actions of the swamp pride-made Umo wonder if that was why Tope was so rebelious. He shook his head and smiled. Sometimes I wish i wasn't a rouge now... I wish there had been a safer place to raise my children... He said simply, though his deep voice remained the same-inside Umo could not help but a feeling of dread... that something would come or someday would come-when the 'not so horrible crime' in his eyes would be revenged by the swamp lands. Though they never left that marsh-that was a bit of comfort... but Kika had left more than once.

He shook his head, a smile still on his face. I am not ashamed of what I have done and you are someone i trust that-you will not judge me... though many seem to find that the reason we were exiled... was foolish on thier part-and a bit oddHe said, flexing his toes, thinking back to the specifics-but decided that the story would take to long and made it shorter to tell. The swamp lands have beleifs... and those beliefs include the fact that the males cannot watch the females give birth... or see the cubs until a certain amount of time after the birth... a month I beleive. The first time-with Kinamasi-my eldest daughter... I thought it would die... not being around my mate- He looked remorsefuly downwards. -Well. With the second birthing... it happened out in the open... and I did not want to leave Kikawaida alone... but I knew i could not be there-but i stayed... for her protection and for the cubs...

but look what it got me-huh?
He asked, a harse towards himself in a way. I could have gotten my children killed, Kika banished and my blood spilled in the name of something that I once belived in

He shook his head slowly. He did sometimes have to admit to himself that he might not have punished his son like he should have-but... Tope wasn't bad... he just found little ways to misbehave. I am so happy i have Kika... and I am very very to have you as my friend Dumu
PostPosted: Thu Sep 27, 2007 1:30 pm

Dumu took in the information and sighed. Prides were sounding more and more stricter than more for one's protection. He had been rogue all his life with his family and he has seen the Prides around them, the Pride Landers specially. That pride seemed a lot different, it was very open and kind to one and all, but this swamp pride seems very strict about rules and violators risked extreme prices.

"As far as I know, you aren't very happy about what is going on right now. You have lost Tope but you have your family and they need you most. Where will you be when they need their father for things like growing up? Will you lose your sight on your family to watch for Tope? Dwell on Tope's rebellion and you may just lose your family too," he responded as he raised to his feet.

"You can't just focus on one and smother it with your attention. It will only push you away, further away from where you would want to me... even more from where you started..." talking like this, attention piled on oen object only makes it push one away even more. He knew this himself and look where it got him. He was no longer near the one who taught him so much. He was gone now, seperated to clear one's mind.

"I dunno what I can tell you, Umo. After all, I am going through something like that too. So I can't give you much advice if I can't even think of it for myself."

Umo was not sure what Dumu meant by 'he was suffering this too' and shook his head, to reask something later. Was it worth it, Dumu's words struck Umo.. Even though he was remorseful that he had lost his son-he knew that he could not abandon his other family. His daughters, his Ardhi-the last of the sons, his mate... after all.. he did not loose anything in reality... his son had grown up and left the families love to find something he was looking for-something that he wanted badly... what ever it may be. Perhaps, Tope would find it. He smiled sheepishly-looking too his friend.

I know you are right Dumu... Perhaps this is what Tope needed for him... and I am confidant he will find something to bring him home... for his mothers sake-she hates it when they leave He said, his eyes growing soft at the mentioning of his mate. NO matter how bad things seemed, no matter how horribly rotten things were-his mate made him smile.

He looked quizzingly over at Dumu and cocked his head. I do not understand... What are you going through---He asked, blinking his eyes. Dumu had always been apart of Umo's life and Umo felt almost like a father figure... he wondered if-Have you spoke too your father lately?
PostPosted: Thu Sep 27, 2007 1:56 pm

Dumu shook his head.

"I have not been able to find him just yet. Nor mother or brother. I am still looking for them, they seem to always be disappearing now," he muttered, turning away from him to look out into the grasslands. "We are rogues, we wander."

He shruged, rolling his shoulders. Flashing a smile back at the adult, he smirked.

"Focus on your family, Tope is old enough to take care of himself. After all, it would be weird having a father around when seeking a mate. Just focus on the family that is still preparing to leave, they need you most," he nodded as a gesture of farewell and started off. It was about time he found his family again... he needed to talk to his parents again.

Umo thought back to when he first set eyes upon Dumu's Godly father-and laughed a bit to himself... his first encounter with a god... and it was not his last. There must be some magnetic force that drew them too him-and he dare not ask Kika if she saw any... she was still a bit connected to her spirits and mentioning that gods excisted may be too much for her-it was almost too much for him. So, he simply nodded his head. {colorr=ed]It is nice to visit every once and a while-I sometimes wish I could see my mother and father again... but i do not know where they are as well

It was true... Tope was going to start his life and perhaps that would involve a female-and that overjoyed him. I know you are right Dumu-for some reason-your words are more important too me than you think... I appreciate the help my young friend

He spun in a circle and began heading back to where he knew his family waited for him to return. My the spirits watch you and favor you He called over his shoulder.

He felt as though he lost one son and gained another in such a short time
