I've been pretty tired of hearing some people saying that colorguard is not part of the band. Personally, I classify it as part of the band. Without them, there is no "color" in the marching show. One of the new band directors at my school was excluding our colorguard during band camp and he even told the trumpet section that we weren't part of the band.
So what do you you guys think? Is the guard part of the band or not? I mean, they go out there and have to learn dance moves and marching, plus tosses, so the guard should get some recognition.

While I would never want to be in colourguard, it is a part of the band. I mean, you have to be in band a year to join, and they march every show. They're part of the band.
But yeah, they're underrated. I mean, the condition of our flag corps are horrible.

Good god, your bd's a ritard.
OF COURSE COLORGUARD IS PART OF THE BAND!!!!
I'm a clarinet marching band student, my sister is in the colorguard.
The Guard gives the visual to the show. We only have fans because of that visual. I doubt anyone would really come, unless they were extreme band geeks, to the parades otherwise.
The guard is, as important, or more important than the band itself. Because, without the guard, no one would come watch. People can always buy a recording, but seeing the guard upclose is the real deal.

This was my first time in color guard., and no one appreciates what we do! Everyone says that we aren't apart of the band. We are like the special affects in an action movie without that then it is just a movie nothing special. And plus color guard has to put in the most effort. We have to go to band camp one week earlier with the percussion. My sisters don't even understand and they're in band! scream gonk

I understand where some people are coming from when they say the color guard gets no attention at all I mean the band got new uniforms but the color guard got nothing just the old uniforms that make us look like we are coming from a funeral color guards are the band therefore we should have got new uniforms (and new flags)

I love color guard. It is part of the band. You march with the band and you keep up with the beats and everything. Like said above, usually you have to be in band for a year to join color guard. I did. I found alot of similarities. so yeah. If someone says color guard is not part of the band, roundhouse kick them to the face. =PP

Since our band director was in color guard and he coaches the varsity winterguard at my school, our color guard gets a lot of attention, 5 sets of flags or more every year(new ones too! =D) and new uniforms each year. we have a huge colorguard as you dont have to play an instrument to be on it, we had 32 members this year. i feel for you guys who have overlooked guards D:

Your band director's being weird. He definitely should not have said that to the trumpets, no matter his personal opinion. I suppose if he were joking or something, then it might be alright, but really.
Colorguard is part of the band, much as we try to deny it. Personally, I enjoy watching the colorguard at competitions. Our colorguard has been judged the best in the area (but we are very small - 8 people with a band of 100 - and I think it's because the practices scare everyone who's not devoted off, so we only have the good ones).

Who ever would say somethin like that has got issues... Im in my schools color guard and we a treated as part of the band... Our Marching band is small, only 19 people and 11 color guard, 4 flag 5 dance and 1 baton... There are schools near us that dont have color guards and there boring to watch.. I feel really bad for those who cant accepot color guard as part of there marching band...

Last year our guard was really underappreciated. But this year I was co-cap and we worked really hard, and, after taking crap from some people who criticized us for "not being seriously in marching band," the guard beat out the band's scores by several places every competition. It was a slap in the face to all the annoying band members who always said we were dragging them down, because the opposite appeared true. 3nodding

without guard, shows are nothing. They wouldn't make sense. They have to work as hard as the band, even harder. At least at our school. I may not like the people in guard (most of them are sluts) but I appreciate the section as part of the band.

I think they are, to a certain extent. They work with the band constantly and they add special effects. The only reason I've grown to dislike colorguard is because ours sucks, doesn't work NEARLY as hard as the band, and is made up of, well.... 80% hoes.
I know all colorguards aren't like that though, so I try not to judge. xD

i've been in the guard, and the band... and i've got to tell ya, i can see why someone would say that, with our guard at least. not anymore though. before we had a guard instructor who was lazy, and out guard sucked. now,we've got a new instructor and the guard is pretty damn good. all i can say is, guard isnt as hard as playing an instrument, but they still work hard. we're trying to reach the same goal, right? definately part of the band. even though some of the guard deserves to be poked in the eye... stare
