To those of you who have purchased MC's within 30 days, perhaps you're aware of the beta test of the new Marketplace! I love it myself! It incorporates a lot of new features, and to those of you who haven't purchased Vending Licenses, they won't be needed in the new system! The catch is, 2% of the sale goes to 'pay' Gaia...but it's virtual gold, so who cares! What do you all think?

It's an interesting concept, I just wish that they'd show more than one item of the type, so as to judge the market.

But I don't really understand why they would charge the fee. It makes me a little fussy, like a middle man in the previously simple marketplace.

The interface and new look are nice, but yes, the closing fee is a touch annoying. At least Gaia doesn't bleed us dry with fees like E(vil)bay. xp

I'm indifferent about it, because it's still very new.
Though I don't care so much about the 2% fee. In the end, people won't notice it so much, so there's no sense or point in getting bent out of shape about it, like some people are on the site.

The only problem I have with this 2% fee is that they are saying that it will decreace inflation, but that is not the case, in lower costing items you won't see much of a difference, cause what's one gold here or there, but the problem is with the higer end items (luxuries) then we're talking thousands of gold, and while yes it is virtual money, it's still frusterating especially if you're working towards getting one of those items >< But like has already been said, it's virtual money.

I like it a lot, except for the fact that I can't display all of my wishlist, so all the stuff displaying I have mostly already bought. stare

I think you hit the nail on the head. I suppose the virtual money aspect is two fold. On one hand it's fake money, so why care? On the other, because it is virtual money it doesn't seem like it will help the site much. I like the MCs for the reason that on top of getting a great item for your ava you also help fund the maintenance of the site. Perhaps the fees are to encourage more purchase of MCs through Gaia and less through the marketplace?

I wonder if we should also consider the fact that it is a LOT easier to get gold on Gaia than it used to be, so maybe this fee will help balance out the effects of daily chance etc?

I like some of it.
The wish list crashed my browser. sad VERY BAD!
I can use the rest of the MP as far as I can tell. Good.
Overall, I like the update if they get the bugs out.

Lanzer Hello everyone, Hope everyone had a great summer. Next week is our summer festival! I wish everyone can make it. For the past few days there had been a lot of concerns about the new marketplace which takes a listing fee of 2% from completed transactions. I wish to take a moment to let everyone know what it is and why it's here. The explanation is rather lengthy, but to sum it all up, we wish to make the Gaia market more balanced and more fair for new and old users alike. Our intention is to try this new system with the release of the new marketplace, then monitor what will happen. The Gaia economy is as complex and difficult as one can imagine, and we don't think we have the answers to everything. A short time after the new marketplace is released, we will decide whether the whole system is working and whether it's fair. For those who want to read more about it, please check out the next post. We will continue to read through feedback and be responsive regarding this new system. -Lanzer The 2% still doesn't bother me, and with the View of the Gaia Economist, it makes even more sense. I suppose there are three things one can do: Accept the fee as something to control inflation. Don't use the marketplace. Leave Gaia! While the latter two are extreme examples, maybe they'd act as a form of protest. Perhaps (as Lanzer stated near the end) they might see their idea isn't working. However, I think the powers that be are right, and this *will* work.

I suppose in my perspective it'll make inflation worse than ever. Simply put, to counter act the fee people will charge more for their items.
