Kainda and Adair walked home warily. Not that they were scared of being attacked, in fact they felt safe enough to walk several feet away from each other, staring. The new family was unsure what to do with each other. It wasn't that ether thought the other was mean or anything, they were just wary. Kainda had been waiting a long time for this child and...here he was, walking with her.
He was nothing like she expected, large brown wings, that appeared flight able, rested behind him while sharp golden eyes watched her. His brown feather and hair mix seemed almost styled despite the fact he only been 'alive' for a few hours.
What was she suppose to do with him? Why in the world did she think she could handle this? She was an irresponsible kitsune, traped forever in the world of a teenager and now she had a kid to deal with....
"So...do I have to call you Mom?"

"I don't know why I have to babysit you," Franz groaned, walking alongside Gavin. The hawk-child carefully walked along the concrete, careful not to step on any of the cracks. Those were bad luck, after all.
"You don't have to," Gavin countered. It wasn't like he wanted the supervision. "I've done this thousands of times. I promise I won't get hurt or nuthin."
The teenage boy rolled his eyes. "Yeah, right. Everytime you say that you end up coming home with scraped knees or a bloody elbow and I'm the one who gets in trouble."
Gavin couldn't help but giggle. It was true. Picia kept yelling at him when he'd go outside by herself, so she decided to send Franz out with him. He didn't like his supposed 'cousin' too much. Huge party pooper. Never did anything fun. Kind of like Picia, except that Franz was easier to pressure into things.
However, a pair of very large wings caught his attention. Wings. Huuuuge wings. Wait, wasn't he the only one with wings in this compound? Hey, not fair! The lady he was walking with looked familiar, but right now this new winged thing was top priority. Apparently it talked too.
"Gavin, what are you--Where are you going?!" Franz exclaimed, trying to grab the back of the young child's shirt to hold him back, missing.
"You!" Gavin yelled from behind. "Why do you have wings!"

To say the pair was surpised would be an understatement. Though both had better than human ears they were so wraped up in trying to read the other that they weren't paying attention to the voices that were slowly approching. Even in such a community as this there were people who could walk by without talking. Especially when they didn't seem to be looking for a talk but....
Then Adair's s**t was grabed. He was tugged back suddenly, letting out a mix of a kitten's mewl and a hawk's screach, as he was stoped suddenly. Kainda turned, a half growl in her throat as her ears went flat on her head and she ducked down a bit, ready to attack who ever was daring to attack her new charge.
But she didn't see some big scary perv standing there, but none other than Gavin, the boy she helped climb up a tree. She relaxed, a little, but her ears remained catiousy back and her hands fell a little but still on guard. She didn't want to beat up a kid but....
"I was...born with them?" Adair said slowly, turning around, but trying to remain calm, diplomatic. He didn't do anything and Kainda was right there so he should be safe. He didn't get the question, or why the guy was pissed though he saw that the boy had wings, much smaller than his wings, but wings nonetheless. "Hey cool, you do too."

Gavin didn't know whether this was a good or a bad thing. In one sense, he didn't feel very special anymore especially considering the size of the toddler's wings. And Gavin was obviously older than him, so why did he still have tiny wings?! On the other hand, there was a sense of awesome now that he had a kindred soul. Someone else who could learn to fly, though for the sake of his childhood pride the hawk boy would make sure it was he who takes to the skies first. Or at least try to.
While Gavin was still assessing the situation, Franz finally caught up, obviously agitated.
"Please forgive my very rude little cousin, ma'am," he addressed Kainda, though it was quite obvious that the two weren't biologically related. As opposed to Gavin's bright orange hair and beak-like nose, Franz sported black hair and a flat face. There were no shared features between them, and the difference in etiquette was astounding even if Franz's was forced through gritted teeth. "I hope your child isn't hurt."

"It's alright, I know Gavin." Kainda asured the new man. When she met Gavin before it was a girl that was his guardian...then she remembered he called Gavin his cousin. He must be the guardian's nephew or something. Kainda shrugged the concern off once she was sure he really did know Gavin. "I just think he's a little confused because Adair here has wings just like him."
Adair sent the kid a mildly supiour look. He had bigger wings than him, and was younger. He might have not goated over such a fact if Gavin didn't accuse him so poorly. His wings shifted a little before he glanced up at the man, then dismissed him.
"Why do you have wings?"

"It shouldn't be something to get that confused over," Franz muttered. "It's not like he's the only thing out there with wings."
Gavin had obviously thought differently, however. While thinking of a way to answer the other winged-boy, he started to circle him. Studying him. Man, those things were huge.
"I have them because I'm me," he said, choosing the answer that made the most sense while reaching out to pat one of the giant walls of feathers coming out of the toddler's back. Of course Gavin had them. He was Gavin! That was like an automatic license to have cool things like feathers and wings.

"Well I have them because I'm me." Adair replied back, still watching Gavin warily. There were a lot of people in the world and while he wasn't out for making enemies Adair wasn't going to stop enemies from happening ether. If he had to defend his right for wings he could. Besides, he couldn't help but show off. "I have claws, and a tail and funny feet too." he told Gavin, showing off all that he bragged about before smirking a bit at the older boy.
obviously Adairs got cooler things than Gavins. So obviously Adairs must be better than Gavins. If Gavins were better they would get claws, and tails, and funny feet too. Besides Gavins got small wings. Adairs had big ones.
Kainda looked between the two a bit confused. It seemed like they were hinting at what might become a fight. Maybe. Right now it could go ether way. Kainda was pretty sure that she, as a guardian, should have some magical phrase that would defuse all the tension and make them great, life long friends.
To bad she had no idea what that phrase might be.

Gavin tensed at the sight of all Adair's other assets. That's just...that's just not fair!
"Oh yeah!" he countered, not entirely sure what he was saying. "Well, I've got--..."
Friends. But most people had friends. Creepy guardian. But that's not exactly an 'asset.' Oh--!
Franz looked at the two, starting to become more interested in the conversation. If the two kids got into a fight, it'd probably be like the cockfights he used to participate in back home--before he was dragged here--in the abandoned barn down the road.
"Well I can do this!" Gavin said triumphantly, pulling on the first thing he could thing of. He concentrated for a moment on the first thing that came to his mind. A small light formed between his hands, before it exploded into blinding light, knocking Gavin onto his back.
"Augh!" Franz yelled out, shielding his eyes.
Gavin laid there on the concrete. That was the bad part about this power: he wouldn't be able to move normally for at least another hour. However, he considered it mission accomplished, as a brand new yo-yo now lay before them. He'd been asking Picia for one for at least a week, but at least now he had an excuse to make one for himself.

Adair held up his claws quickly at the blinding flash. He had to blink several times to get his eyes to clear before he saw what was laying there on the ground. A yo yo. He didn't really know what it was but he did know it was a toy, and Gavin made it with his hands.
He definately won.
"Wow! That's so cool, how do you do that?" Adair asked, picking up the toy, his claws scraping against the paint and scuffing the new toy all ready. He almost was going to go for the string before Kainda snatched the toy back quickly, not wanting Gavin to loose the toy he just made. She handed it to the hawk boy and delt with the mini-glare.
"Be careful with your claws Adair, they're very sharp." she reminded him, a little worried about that. He seemed able to do cut though things easily with his claws. That's fine for weapons but not for just holding things.
