Okay, so, right now I'm working on a series of practical steps that, in short, lets you "exercise your magick muscle". Observant folk among you will notice that this is Josh's request from my MiniShop in the guild -- however, I thought it best to ask you all what you would consider the most important fields of study within magick.

To clarify what I mean by "subsections" or "fields of study", I currently have the following:

  • Divination
  • Invocation
  • Evocation
  • Sigil magick
  • Banishing (eg LBRP)
  • Charging (eg Middle Pillar ritual)
  • Visualisation

The practical steps will incorporate one of each of these fields, so that the person undertaking said steps will have tried a little something of everything. I'm wondering if anyone could suggest more areas I could include, especially ones pertaining to psionics, since I know next to nothing about psi practise.

There's a lot of divisions that people use, to be honest...mostly based on the tool used. People divide candle magic from herb magic, for instance.

Or, perhaps, they'll divide them based on the type of spell (Love, Healing, Protection, Abundance, Wisdom, etc.).

I need to know a little more about what you're going for before I can be much help, but I have quite a bit of basic knowledge on hand about various things. (They don't call me "book girl" for nothing; I love my research.)

Basically what I'm going for is something akin to this:

The caster first banishes to cleanse the area, casts a circle, then uses a mantra and visualisation to evoke the powers of the four elements. Then the caster invokes the Delphic Sibyl, then uses tarot cards to divine the events of the next week. The caster then charges up their energy using the Middle Pillar ritual and does... something.

The exercise is to include as many different magick techniques in it as possible so that you don't fall out of practise in any of them; alternatively, you could perform a selection of techniques a week, for example divination one week, then herb magick the next, and so on. Herb magick and candle magick are precisely what I'm going for.

Ah! Well, I'll look up everything I can and send stuff your way as I compile it. It will give me something to do when work fails to keep me occupied.

What about Pranayama or any breathing techniques?
