I haven't been on in a while, so I decided it was time to get the lead out of my bum and post. XD

Have you ever read the books by Gregory Maguire? They're good, even though I still feel the ending to Wicked was rushed. :/ And people rave how accurate they are to the original Wizard of Oz series, but that isn't really right either.

UHM, NO. Actually it was well written, but the plot was just too wrong.

I read Wicked a couple of years ago. I thought the concept was so enchanting, and everyone had really raved over it, so I read it. THE WHOLE THING. I read every page and it wasn't until I had actually finished it and digested the book for about an hour that I realized just how s**t the book was; how irrelevant the book was to the original series, the lack of metaphor, and the utter disrespect to L. Frank Baum's ideals. In my opinion, at least..... so of course I did not read Son of a Witch.
[I may be a bit Biased though. :/]

I heard the Broadway play was amazing, from lots of people. Even my sister saw it and said it was just wonderful, but she hadn't read the book. Upon comparing the play to the book they were both very different, which is probably why the play was so damn good. XDD

That's how it was for me, too. I loved the idea of the concept, and I ended up way disappointed. But Son of a Witch was great, though really both books are more fanfiction than anything. XD I prefered SoaN just because it was... different. :3

And yes. Wicked was like, wrong. Crazy sexual, and that had no point being there because it wasn't really relevant.

I got mized reviews about the Broadway musical, but I still want to see it. X3 Besides, the 'eh' reviews were from people I kind of consider to be... uh... let's say not bright.

I hear you calling and it's needles and pins
I want to hurt you just to hear you screaming my name

Well, the music is great. I have the soundtrack because my family is thinking about going to see the musical at some point. But I couldn't force myself past the intro of "Wicked." I lost it after he described the Scarecrow, the Lion and the Tin-Man in such... um... merry terminology. And Dorothy was apparently quite "butch?" What? I thought she was a little girl... :/ The whole thing was so condescending to the original series that I just couldn't push myself to read on. And just in the intro!

I did skip ahead a read a few pages through out, and I think I was just sickened by it. But maybe that was the point and it just went right over my head? Who knows. >_>

But once again, the soundtrack to the musical is just beautiful, so hopefully the actual musical will be the same. 3nodding

I really enjoyed Wicked, though I didn't have as much of a problem because I've never read the original Oz books. I have yet to move on to Son of a Witch, mostly because I wanted to reread Wicked before that, but I have a crapton of books that I need to read so I never got to it.

As for the musical...meh. Some of the songs are kind of fun, but a lot of it seems so shallow.
