Domani was bored. Even though she was in a school specifically to teach Science, she was still required to take other annoying classes that had nothing to do with her chosen career. Zoologist. A zoologist who had to write essays on oil production in the Middle East. Who cared about oil in the Middle East? Couldn't people just get off their lazy butts and walk? She was just fine with walking and Venice didn't have all that many cars and only a few speedboats. After all, speedboats were useless unless one wanted to run into a wall. Being a human was so boring.

She laid on her stomach in the apartment above the office with Rosa, her cat, jumping all over the place and attempting to eat her paper. She agreed with the cat. The essay was good only for destruction. But she didn't feel like rewriting the entire thing, as much as she wanted to rip it to shreds. "Sorry, love. Not for eating," She told her.

She'd promised to work on her homework while her parents went out to the grocery store and Cynzia was trying to create a whole new wardrobe. But nonetheless, she just wanted to go on the roof and watch the sky go by or wander the city or leave Venice altogether and ride a horse. Unfortunately, she couldn't. She had to sit here and do her homework. Or pretend to do her homework.

She flipped over onto her back and picked up her cat, sitting her on her own stomach and stole some time to imagine how much better life would be if she could become a cat.

Paola Costa was a short, elderly woman with all the right gentleness and wisdom of age about her and the right amount of spark in her eyes and spunk in her footsteps. She spent her time at the schools, usually in the lower levels, but she had plenty of "her children" in the upper schools that she frequently visited. Young Domani she knew only in passing, but she'd heard some interesting tales and been watching. She'd seen some confirmation of those tales now and thought she'd take the child in. One more couldn't hurt now, could it?

Paola went to the apartment complex where some of her children were, and ended up at Domani's. She rang the doorbell and stood, a small bag of cookies in hand and a smile on her face. When Domani answered the door she beamed at her, "Domani, deary, is that you?" Paola smiled at the girl, "I was out visiting and thought I would call on you. Beautiful day for it. But it makes an old woman tired, it does! How are you doing.... Oh! And how's your friend?" She indicated the cat that had followed Domani.

Domani rose to answer the door, whiskers flicking idly. She smiled at her teacher, one that she actually didn't mind paying attention to. "Hello, Signora Costa," She greeted her. She was unsure what to do, let alone what the woman wanted and took a leap in the dark, "Um, come in." She stepped away from the door and led the way to living room. "I'm just fine, thanks. So's Rosa." She responded to the questions curiously.

She sat down on a chair, kicking her paper towards it and picking it up, along with Rosa. "My parents are out right now and so is my aunt." She said nervously. After all, why would someone from school randomly stop by her house? She couldn't help but wonder if she was in trouble. "Do you want me to call them?" The whiskers seemed to melt away into her skin and she rubbed her face where they disappeared.

Sr. Costa smiled gently at Domani, "Thank you, my dear." She offered Domani the bag of cookies in her hand and then sat down herself, "I was actually going out to visit my children today and remembered you were out at this complex as well. You, know, my dear," she lowered her voice, "You had whiskers on your face when I first walked in." She smiled conspiratorially, "It's not like simply reaching puberty, that isn't. I've had my fair share of children with powers, do you think you could trust me to help you with that, my dear?" Being elderly meant that she had no reason to beat around the bushes, because by merit of being elderly she seemed to be trustworthy and harmless all at the same time, yet believably experienced in matters.

Domani gave her best version of a courteous smile and took the cookies, wondering if they were at all like the ones her own grandparents made, which tasted horrible all around. She set them on the table and her cat darted after them, sniffing them blissfully. Well, they probably weren't horrible. Her brow frowned, however, at the mention of whiskers. Did she have whiskers before? She couldn't remember. She was fairly certain she did not. Children with powers? She didn't even know any children with powers, she thought. But then, she didn't pay attention much to gossip or people in general.

The silence stretched on as she contemplated herself having a power. Let the woman stew as she thought through the possibilities. Finally, she settled on the easiest and most explanation-receiving question. "What do the whiskers mean, other than that I have a power?" Curiosity raged through her voice. She wanted to know. Whiskers meant animal which meant animal powers.

"Oh, it means you look extremely silly and adorable all at the same time!" Paola laughed, then grew gently serious, "It also means that you could be in danger if others pick up on it. There are people who would harm evolveds like you and me."

Domani wasn't the type of person to trust on the word of another. She bit her lip thoughtfully. The response was useless to her question. She knew that already. Anyone who paid attention to the news would know that. And she actually watched the news on the rare occasion she watched T.V. She ignored the obvious question 'You're an Evo?' She was irritated by the answer and annoyance crept into her as she asked one that was more important, "Yes, I got that. But what does it mean?"

"Yes, darling, I am," Paola held out a wrinkled hand for Domani to watch, and as she did, the hand began to take on a youthful appearance. Then it went back to it's original form. She smiled sincerely, "I certainly hope whiskers mean that you have similar powers to mine. They're very tiring, but they're great fun. But we won't know that until you do more than grow whiskers now, will we? And if your question is in regards to what shall happen to you," she leaned in close, "I promise you now that I will never let anything wrong or bad happen to you. You have my word as your Granny, or auntie or simply Sr. Costa, if you prefer. All three names hold the same honor in promises."

Domani watched wide-eyed as the apparent age of the hand change. She gave an uncertain smile to the supposedly old woman. "Oh. Alright, then." She said, her independent personality irritated at the Signora's implication that she couldn't take care of herself. But.... She knew almost nothing about powers and Evos other than what went on on the news and the news was probably wrong about the specifics. The woman still treated her like a child, annoyingly enough, like at any moment she would run around screaming or would listen to her simply because it seemed like fun. Arrogantly, she said, "You're going to train me, right? I'd prefer you didn't treat me like a kid, then. I'm not going to run off and hide in the closet because there might be monsters under the bed and I wish you'd stop acting like it."

Sra. Costa raised an eyebrow at Domani's comment, but her smile took on a less granny-like look, "Well, de---Domani, you'll have to remember that I work with babies all day. You may have to remind my forgetful mind about treating you better." She nodded, "Train you I will, and you will be a star in this world. Much better than anyone else out there. When and how would you like to start?"

Domani nodded slowly to the Signora's first comment. She could remind her and she would. As often as possible. She was not a child, after all, and she would not abide being treated like one. But at the mention of training, she could not help but get childishly excited. After all, the sooner started, the sooner ended and the sooner she could live without being able to defend herself. "Um, as soon as possible? And however you think best."

"Perfect!" She clapped her hands, "It won't be a problem at all... Here's your first thing...I want you to start paying attention when people start looking at you or whispering about you, and then think about what it is that made you start changing... And once you know, the real training can begin!" She smiled, "Unless you can tell me already? What were you thinking of when I knocked?"

Domani couldn't help but wonder how people staring and whispering would make her think about how she changed. The two didn't affect each other, she thought. Oh well. But the questions she could answer, "I was daydreaming about being a cat," She shrugged, easily putting two and two together and getting an unsurprising four. Thinking affected how you acted and, apparently, powers. Wow. Shocker.

"Do you think if you consciously thought of actually being a cat, it would affect the changes more?" Sra. Costa asked, looking curiously at the girl.

((Hmmm.... I may change Domani's trainer, Sra Costa's not the best choice... =P But before I do, we'll finish this RP up and maybe toss her into some trouble or something and get her noticed otherwise THEN have it changed? What do you think?))

Domani couldn't help but look at Signora Costa oddly. "I consciously decided to daydream about being a cat, if that's what you mean." How could one daydream without realizing it? It was like falling into a book, watching a good movie. It might make time go by fast but it was never an unconscious decision to start reading or watching, at least that was how Domani thought.

((XD I agree. Paola seems to be too motherly for Domani. That sounds good for me. She'll probably pass out after the trouble and the notice-er might decide to take over the training and they'll 'meet' at a situation where Domani will have to admit she needed help, instead of deciding it like now (if it's one of those 'wake up in a strange bed and meet your savior' moments. Paola's ability seems more spying than combat to me, also.))
