(my apologies if this is a repeat topic)
I've been listening to the 2006 soundtrack, and I'm really enjoying it thus far. I was just wondering what some of people's favorite songs were. 'Doomsday' still gets me a little teary eyed. I think part of that is because it is so similar to "The Doctor's Theme" (with all the eerie 'oooh' vocals) but it's even sadder. In my mind, that seemed like saying "The loss of a loved one is pretty much a part of the Doctor- Losing Rose is a part of his character + extra sad points".
Also, I've been listening to the audio books (read by Tennant) and I have to say I'm loving those. His Mickey Smith is spot on!
One question I have is- in some ads and such, I've heard a version of the theme that seems to include some electric guitars. Does anyone know where I might find a copy of that song, or what album I should be looking for?
So yes- share! Discuss! Hurrah for entertaining your ears!

I recently got the 2005-2006 soundtrack, and there are so many good tracks! Some of my favorites are Boom Town Suite, The Face of Boe, New Adventures, Monster Bossa, and Doomsday. I like your interpretation of Doomsday. It was the same for me - the vocals on that track in combination with the steady guitar nearly made me cry the first two or three times I listened to it. The whole score is really an example of a beautiful and creative television soundtrack.
I love the music in the 3rd season, too, and can't wait for that soundtrack to come out... Martha's Theme is dark and mysterious, which seems symbolic of her relationship with the Doctor, and also the darker tones in the 3rd season, since the Doctor recently lost Rose.

I think my favourites are The Doctor's Theme, Rose's Theme, Hologram, The Impossible Planet, The Lone Dalek, The Daleks, The Face Of Boe, Madame De Pompadour, Father's Day and Doomsday.
Yes I do like slow music.
EDIT:- But I do like Song For Ten and Love Don't Roam as well!!

I still haven't picked up the new soundtrack (...and I dare call myself a Whovian?! rolleyes ). I do have a couple older ones. I think it was for The Five Doctors and Greatest Show in the Galaxy, but my memory's a bit hazy.
And, of course, I bought the Jams/Timelords/KLF's greatest hits CD just for that Doctorin' the Tardis song. I should probably be embarrassed to say that.

Girl in the Fireplace music is brilliant, as is the stuff in Father's Day, The Face of Boe (big favorite of mine!) Rose's Theme, and a few others. Doomsday is really good, but it just doesn't stick with me. I'd want to know where on earth can I find the music in Time Crash (I think there was some.. I was too focused on the actors plus my alternating laughing/crying during the whole thing.)
And yeah, I can't wait to hear Martha's theme or the updated Doctor's theme.. it changes a bit every year.

I very rarely buy soundtracks to anything, but I think I'll have to give this one a go just for the potentially mindbending experience of re-reading the Human Nature novel with the soundtrack to its adaptation playing. smile

The BBC really need to get the New Adventures back into print. The authors, rather than Virgin, hold the copyright on their text so legally it'd be as simple a matter as when they put some up as ebooks - phoning the authors and saying, "Excuse me? Would you like some money for no extra work?"
It'd fill the (agonising) gap in the market for Who books for adult readers, and there's obviously a demand for these books or otherwise people wouldn't be paying $60 for the rarest ones. Russell's often saying that his style of Doctor Who was born in these novels, so get him, Cornell, Moffat and the rest to write some new introductions to them and they'd fly off the shelves to both new fans and people who own the original editions.
They ought to do them as 'Omnibus' editions though, containing four novels each. That way you could get all of Timewyrm in one book, all of Cat's Cradle in one book and the whole line would be back in print in just fifteen volumes.
Oh! And another good way to ensure the marketability of the reprints would be to include the 'Preludes' from the Magazine. Doctor Who Magazine used to have little mini-chapters from each month's novel that weren't included in the actual book. Like a TARDISode or a deleted scene. Stick those in the reprints and they'll be as easy a sell to completist old fans as they will to new fans eager to read the early Who stories of Russell, Cornell, Moffat, Gareth Roberts, Matt Jones, Mark Gatiss, and some of the other names they now see flashing up on their telly-box screens.
I'm probably dreaming. But I never thought I'd live to see all the Doctor Who Magazine comic strips back in print in gorgeous omnibus editions, and yet by next spring all the Fourth Doctor, Fifth Doctor, Sixth Doctor and Eighth Doctor stories will be sitting happily on my bookshelf. So dreams can come true. heart
