Today, I'm turning on the TV before I head into work to tune into Josh & Drake on Nickalodeon. A favorite teen show of mine. So I'm laughing as they are trapped in a bathroom together by a large rotweiler and are afraid to leave.

At one point the two scream ''Oh my God!'' in unison.
And it hits me: these days, they don't really care too much about being careful what they say on TV. I can understand fowl language on say Adult Swim, but since when did they allow the example of taking God's name in vein in young adult shows? It wasn't like this before. They use to be more careful with exclimation remarks in my teen years on our shows.

But I can't help but feel the need to caution you, as my brothers and sisters in Christ. Do not start to feel that it's okay to take God's name in such a way as they do on TV these days, just because they do.

It's the third commandment of God's and He asks us not to take His name in which we call on to pray and speak with Him for granted...

That's true. I used to be pretty rigid about it back some time, and I see myself taking God's name in vain sometimes still, even though whenever I do it I immediately feel guilty inside me, as I know it's not right to use the name of the three times holy God, the Almighty, in vain.

Well, I think the commandment means more not to swear by God, and then not tell the truth, or fufill your oath, or to say you are a follower of God, and it's a lie, but as I can see why it's taken to mean don't curse with God's name, I don't. (I swear vividly in german, a habit I need to break...)

I suppose you have to understand that not everyone is Christian, therefore, I would think they would be allowed to say His name in such a way...

"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." "Do not take the Lord's name in vain." "Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God."

I don't know guys, I think it is pretty clear what we're not supposed to do. I know that we are also not to swear by God. But this commandment does not leave room for guessing.

I know how you feel. It hurts to hear. And it hurts more when we slip and do it ourselves. We are all sinful, wheather Christian or not.
Personally, I try to avoid such programs. When you hear a lot of crap like that, it sticks in your head and you are more likely to slip and say it yourself.
My biggest heart ache is when my own mother says "Jesus Christ" in anger when something goes wrong. I feel as if slapped. cry

Yes, but you'd think they go through such lengths to teahc children balanced moral.

Without going into a rant, I'm kind of feeling it could be something that--you know--they could concider in teenshow dialog on the media, at least...

I know what you mean.

Back when my husband and I first started dating, i noticed he did it, by mistake sometimes. Jokingly. Back then, I was pretty reluctant on confronting people sometimes on calling them on such things.

But when he did so in front of his younger teen cousin for whom he was always hoping to set a good example for, I felt a push in my heart when he slipped. i politely asked him to watch his wording, and before that point didn't realize what he'd been doing, and worked on watching it. Within some short time, he fell out of the habit.
