Day One - Dawn Martha sighed softly as she sorted through the mess of paperwork that was threatening to take over the small space on her desk currently occupied by her coffee mug. “How could he have just left like that?” It had only been a few days since her amazing trip with the one who called himself the Doctor. She thought her life was okay, as long as she didn’t have to deal with her family, but then he just came into her world and now nothing was the same. Everything was just…ordinary. And he wasn’t. She missed that thrill of adventure, something she’d never find without him around. And she couldn’t stop thinking about him, or the blue box, or any of it. “I’m never going to get anything done now…” she muttered. It was one minute ‘till her break anyway, so she went out the front door of the hospital and walked down the side street towards a small cafe.
“Well hello there, Martha Jones!”
She spun around and gasped. Standing behind her was a tall, lanky man with brown hair and a blue suit. He was grinning a bit like the Cheshire cat, with his hands in his pockets.
“Doctor! What are you doing here?” Her feelings of elation were mixed with confusion and hurt, but she had to admit she was happy to see him again.
“Well, I was going to go visit some friends, and I thought you might like to come along.” He motioned to an alcove behind her, where the TARDIS stood quietly, the door ajar.
“Yes! I..I would love to come!” All thoughts of her job and family flew out of her mind, once again. She quickly followed the Doctor into the TARDIS and shut the door. Immediately the TARDIS’s console started ringing, but from the look on the Doctor’s face, it was not a good sound……
-----------------------------------------------------------
The masked soldier fell against the tiled floor, a look of horror on his face. “No..I am faithful! I serve and obey the master! Spare me....he knows I serve only him!” His cries of mercy were ignored as his pursuer quietly cornered him. “Please! Ask him….please… don’t!” The beam of blue light that killed him was masked by his final scream. Announcement: If you're supposed to communicate with one another, make sure they are able to PM you. That is all. *intercom screeches*
Okay, here's the thing:
Rules: 1. No deleting posts, 'cause it's just not fair. 2. Try not to edit at all, either make another post or have [EDIT: what you edited] at the bottom of your post. (and mods who are playing shouldn't mess with your posts - I'll fix if it's necessary) 3. If you've got a role that is special (you'll know what I mean if you do) please use discretion about revealing it because you'll probably become a target. 4. If you are killed/lynched, you can stick around as long as you are off-topic of the game. 5. Don't post anything after the Dusk scene is posted. It helps keep everything straight. 6. Don't PM each other during Night unless your character PM says so. You may, of course, PM me with any questions/concerns at any time.
I'll be poking my head in once things get started, but remember, I'm only here to answer questions about the game; I'm not actually playing it. I've given you what you need to start, and it's all you guys now.
Okay, the Clue at the end of the storyline is just a little extra that I'll give out every day (probably) to help you guys along. It could point to anything: a keyword that relates to the game, a character, an identity, etc.
To Lynch: Once you are ready to start a lynch on someone, you post something that will end up looking somewhat like this: (player to lynch name): 2 (your name, other name, etc) 4 to lynch If you decide to change your vote, simply copy-paste the last vote posted and remove your name, changing the numbers accordingly. You can also decide to skip the lynch that day. It would be simply this: No Lynch: 2 (your name, another name, etc) 4 to end You can only have your name in one vote at a time.
It takes the majority of people to lynch someone, so today it will take 6 people. Once there is a lynch, you cannot reverse it. Majority applies to a No Lynch as well.
Have fun!

*clears throat loudly* Okay, I should have made this clear from the start. It was brought to my attention, thankfully.
In Mafia, 'Day' is used to refer to the part where everyone can talk, theorize, etc about the game. It is also the part where you decide who to lynch, or if you're gonna lynch at all. 'Day' can last quite a long time, and I've known it to last for at least 2-3 real-time days. Here is a good chart of how the game flow goes. I made it some time ago in case I needed to explain better. Quote: 1. Dawn Scene + Modkill --------DAY-------- 2. Dusk Scene + Lynch -------NIGHT------- 3. Dawn Scene + Nightkill --------DAY-------- 4. Dusk Scene + Lynch -------NIGHT------- 5. Dawn Scene + Nightkill -The Dawn scene is the one posted at the beginning of every 'Day'. It will include the Nightkill story (or in the case of the first one, the modkill). After that, the Day starts. The day ends when you decide to lynch/no-lynch. Then the Dusk scene is posted at the end of Day. -Night starts, and the Mafia chooses their target, and all special roles are activated. After everyone has completed their Night action, I create the next Dawn scene that includes that Nightkill.
This pattern will continue until either all the Mafiosos are lynched, all the Townies are killed, or one of each is left.
I'm sorry if it seems redundant, but it will help clarify for those who don't understand. ^^

Cool....some nameless soldier went and got himself killed at the very beginning. Seems like that happens a lot in Doctor Who, doesn't it?
Seeing this poor dead (NPC) person, I wonder... are we supposed to start pointing fingers and trying to hang each other already, or are we required to wait until after the 'night' phase is over and the dastardly mafia have killed off one of the PC townies?
I haven't got the faintest idea about that clue. Anyone else want to hazard a guess on that one?

All I could think of for the clue is that a good "lap dog" (or servant or whatever) should very much obey their master, which led me to the Master... It makes no sense that way to me. I don't know.
Yeah, it seems like someone usually dies or is in a perilous situation at the beginning of a Doctor Who story.
What's the weather like in Hawaii?

A note from your friendly mod:
The soldier was an NPC. That means a modkill. Meaning that he isn't one of you guys, just some person I made up in order to advance the storyline. And yeah, they do that a lot, don't they... mrgreen
Hope you all like the story!
EDIT: Just one reminder: You're not supposed to be in-character...ever..since a) the PM just basically tells you what side you're on and if you have powers, and b) that'd be kinda difficult for some of ya whee

I don't know. Yeah, it seems like someone usually dies or is in a perilous situation at the beginning of a Doctor Who story. What's the weather like in Hawaii? The weather's moderate, but humid. We didn't get hit by that hurricane. I kind of wish we did... it used to be pretty fun growing up in Guam because we kept having typhoons every couple of years. Yeah, I could see how the Master might tie into this, seeing as how that dead guy was saying he that he obeys the 'master' and all. But then I was thinking maybe it was K9? Or the 80's Cyber Leader, since he was fond of saying 'excellent' a lot. Gosh, it's hard to decide who to lynch with so little to go on. I just remembered I really suck at these kind of group interaction games. stressed

Wow. I had no idea of all the chaos among two people that clue would bring. And I thought it was pretty straightforward. o_0 So nevermind then, just carry on. Perhaps the other eight people's inputs will help ya. ^^ And the first Day is always the strangest 'cause there's nothing really to go on. (That's why some Mafias add clues - you should have seen the one without it!) -shuts up 'cause she's the Mod and not a player-

Oooh, dead soldier. Does that mean he's from and army? Two of my friends just joined the army. It's was actually quite un-expected.
And I really should go hunt for some food. My tummy is complaining XD

Um..the dead soldier means absolutely nothing. But you guys had some good ideas about the clue. Just basically talk about it some more, think outside the box, I suppose, and when there are more people on then maybe it'll become apparent.

the clue.. it baffles me. mabey its an anagram... Gpsttfce.... not really but if I put vowels in like gOpsAttOfAce... the GOP is going to sit on someone's face which means that the republicans are in the mafia (because nice people don't sit on people's faces) and we should lynch Bush's PET dog, Barney. Because he is going to follow his master's commands excellently and lynch all the townies because he's in the mafia.
rofl just to be clear, that was a joke... and I support Bush... and sorry for everyone not familiar with the GOP, the fact that bush has a dog, or american government
Seriously, I think its the Daleks, not the Master. The soldier was dispatched with a blue beam, which is trademark of the Daleks. Mabey they have made an army of some species or another and this one had a little too much free will. Or perhaps the Daleks and the Master have teamed up or the Master has somehow won control over the Daleks. or just their suits or lasers like he did with the people at the end of the world...
or mabey its refrence to K-9, thats what I thought when I saw the clue, no idea why
OORR! it was refrence to the doctor trying to keep the master as a PET and its saying that when the Doctor told him to regenerate, he followed the commands excellently, and he's alive, and he's killing the soldier dudes
I just changes my opinion at least three times.

Actually, shouldn't we be deciding who to lynch before night hits and the Mafia bumps one of us off? Or should we just not lynch anyone, and see what happens? I haven't the slightest idea what would be the best strategy.
Maybe the clue is supposed to be a hint about one of the Mafia. Pets are animals, so perhaps we should lynch someone with an animal in their name, like SamuraiButterfly, Stresshog, or Cow Demon. Although butterflies, pigs, and cows don't really seem like pets, do they? whee

That's racist against animals! XD Cows can be pets. And so can sheep. I'm always asking if I can buy a lamb from the farm next door for a pet! XD LAMBS ARE SO DAMN CUTE. Butterflies can be pets too! They're purdy. And so are frogs. I want a pet frog :3

I'm curious about the phrasing of the clue...
Good pets should try to follow commands excellently.
Does the trying mean the pet (I'm thinking K-9 here...) is being stopped somehow? And 'excellently'? Ooh... I just got an image of Mr Burns going 'excellent' in his evil voice. xd But that's probably not related to this puzzle.
Also I'm sorry in advance Ceribri cos I am SURE to get something/many things wrong between now and the end of the game. sweatdrop
