Hello, it may be shocking but I'm a member, I know I haven't had nor given time to give my comments on forums, its because I'm a defective capricorn, I'm more sag than cap, but what I mean to write about is......

Earth:practical and stable
Water:emotional and passive
Air:communicative and intellectual
Fire:assertive and fiery

The way I think of it is, 1st Aquarius should be a water sign why, Aqua=water, I know they are the intellectuals, but they are humanitarians as well and you can't be a humanitarian without being sensitive and emotional, so it should be a water, In its place as one of the Airs, would be sagittarius, I know they can be very fiery, but they are about higher learning and just all about the word knowledge, which is intellectual, and knowledge is based on communication wether a book,tv show, school, etc so sag should be classified as a Air. and lastly in the last Fire position Is Scorpio, they may be sensitive but they could be evil, kiniving, and very manipulative, they would be perfect with Aries and Leo, they all have the need to rule, they all can be very sexual, this is my case, it might not stand in a court of astrologers, but I thought I should express it!!

Comment with you're thoughts!

It's about time you posted in the guild!

Lol, I couldn't agree more! The only thing I have to add is that perhaps Aquarius is an air because they tend to be a bit more decisive and assertive than water signs.

I'm still trying to figure out the Scorpio bit. David (my brother) is a Scorpio (I haven't done his chart, though) and it's left me a bit confused...Him? A water? Ppffffffffffffffffft.

Aqua does mean water, and aquarius is the 'water bearer', but, leaving aside the humanitarian thing for a moment, aquarians are generally very emotionally detached. Given that emotion is water's big thing, it doesn't seem right that one of the least emotional signs would be a water one.

I agree that sagittarius is at least the most airy of the fire signs, and is associated with education and philosophy and so on, but it's also very energetic and impossible to restrain (should anyone be silly enough to try) - very firey in that respect.

And finally, scorpio - it is very intense, and possibly the least watery of the water signs, but all the same, scorpios are very emotional - and their intensity is mostly emotional (as opposed to, say, aries intensity which is different altogether). As for 'evil' - surely that's not a characteristic that can really be applied to any particular sign, or even any particular element? I wouldn't have though it any more fire than water, anyway. The same goes with manipulative and so on (scorpios may have a tendency towards manipulation, but does any element in general?).

Ultimately, though, it's also good to remember that the elements are useful classifications for remembering the most basic tendencies of the signs - energy, stability, emotion and thought - and they're good for working out rough compatibilities (air and fire get along, earth and water get along), but they don't mean much more than that - there is nothing inherently related to fire in a fire sign or to water in a water sign.

Hate to bust your bubble folks, but Aquarius is NOT a water sign. It may be known as the 'Water Bearer', but it's an AIR sign. So that would explain why you guys aren't so emotional. As Aquariuses, you guys should've already known that.

I knew that, and it's not even MY sign. rolleyes

D000M: We know Aquarius is an air sign. The first poster was suggesting that it might make more sense to class it as water because it's associated with watery themes - he wasn't claiming that it is a water sign.

Yeah signs tend to get me puzzled when it comes to their elemental personality. I mean I know I'm into intellectual matters, but I can be quite emotional too (I suppose that's cause of my Scorpio sign; which I also feel should be a fire element instead of water).

Water is moody, Fire is fiesty. Fire signs don't change moods suddenly with little or no warning.

Having lived with a scorpio and being a fire sign there's a difference in the energy (for want of a better term), she was more outpsoken in relation to (9 times out of 10) emotional things (ex's/lovers/parents/friends etc.) whereas fire signs I think are just generally energetic about everything and it just happens to be when they get angry/determined/aroused (times when you're likely to notice the scorp intensity) it is expressed there too.

For the record - emotional does not equal passive. Ever. Think about it, you have strong emotions you're unlikely to be passive about them or anything related to them. I've even seen aggressive cancers! It usually takes quite a bit but they've got an aggressive streak (if you really want to try I'd suggest taking a dig at their family or that teddy bear they've had since they were born sweatdrop )

Long story short - scorpios are without a doubt, absoutely a water sign. Those emotions run so deep I get scared just thinking about it! Honestly if you compare Aries to Scorpio you've got two whole different types of intensity/energy there biggrin

As to the aquarian thing - sometimes you've got to wonder if aquarians even have emotions or if they do it's not usually openly expressed...not really a water thing...

And finally the sagg thing - I really don't think they're air signs. They lack the tact to be, technically, good communicators and, seriously, have you met a saggitarius??? They think but...not like air signs, once again it's a different energy.

AQUARIUS, THE WATER BEARER

The stateliness and pride of those born under the sign of Leo are not missing in the typical Aquarian, but while in the Leo these qualities are of a lower, more bestial nature agreeable to the sign, they are manly pride and stateliness in the true Aquarian. Libra generates a beautiful body but more effeminate as it were, whereas the Aquarian beauty is truly manly or womanly; the fearless eye is kindly and drooping eyelashes are peculiar to this sign. The forehead is square, and the well developed poise tells of intellect, the large domed head shows the spiritual side of the nature and the chin is sufficiently developed to give purpose to all actions. Thus the typical Aquarian is the highest grade of humanity; but therefore, also exceedingly rare, for the variants produced in each sign from the typical, by the interposition of one or more planets are so different that the type is often unrecognizable in the majority of its features. Aquarians are most loyal to friends, therefore they attract many, keep them through life, and are much benefited by them. Like Capricorn, this sign is ruled by Saturn, and he gives to the Aquarian the same retiring nature and tendency to melancholy which marks the Capricornian, but also the persistence in the following a given course; and whatever financial success comes to these people is the result of continued and patient effort; Aquarians are very deliberate and long suffering; they never act in a hurry, and therefore seldom have cause to regret their actions, save when reason has been stilled through play upon their sympathies, for under such circumstances they are readily imposed upon. the love nature is very strong, but they are not as demonstratives as the Leo. It is noteworthy that the qualities of opposite signs are always reflected; Leo in Aquarius, reflects love; Taurus mirrors the passion of Scorpio; the Gemini body is a reflex of the bony Sagittarius frame, etc.

The Sun and Saturn bring out more prominently the good traits of Aquarius; this sign, where Saturn rules and Libra, where he is exalted, are therefore under his most benign influence. The Sun in Aquarius adds much hope and life to the nature, and thus counteracts the melancholy trait previously mentioned.

The ruler of Aquarius is Uranus. Its symbol represents water, a universal image which dates back into prehistory. This will also be recognized in the Egyptian hieroglyph representing the same. The association in Aquarius is that of the servant of humanity pouring out the water of knowledge to quench the thirst of the world. These symbolic waves of water, share the dual expression of vibrational waves of electricity or parallel lines of force.

Aquarians are interesting and attractive people. They can be shy, sensitive, gentle and patient; or enthusiastic and lively with a tendency to be exhibitionists. Both types are strong willed and forceful in their own way. Very opinionated with strong convictions, they fight for what they believe in. They will argue vehemently for what they believe to be true, however, if you can show them facts to the contrary, they have little trouble altering their opinion.

These are farsighted people with an eye and ear to the new and innovative. They are generally without prejudice and quite tolerant of the point of view of others. They have an interesting side to their nature that allows them to see a valid argument even when they disagree with it. They are quite objective folk and never get waylaid by being too close to an issue or person.

Aquarius as an Air sign is associated with higher learning, knowledge, masters of invention and technology. In essence Aquarius is the symbol of humanity at this present time.

URANUS, THE PLANET OF ALTRUISM

The people who have Uranian love therefore become builders of society; associated with every good and uplifting movement. An adverse aspect of Uranus to Venus on the other hand, has the most degrading effect on the Venus function, for it leads to disregard of the laws and conventions of society and to perversion of the sacred creative function.

Love is a much abused word, and the emotion thus miscalled is usually so tainted with desire that it is Martian passion rather than Venusian love. Coalition, the keyword of Venus, suggests a most intimate union, a blending of the very souls of two or more people who compose a family. But ALTRUISM, the keyword of Uranus, hints at such an all-embracing love as our Saviour felt. Thus Uranus is the octave of Venus and anyone ready to enter the path of preparation which leads to initiation must gradually learn to outgrow the Venus love which makes the immediate family all in all and begin to cultivate the all-embracing Uranian altruism.

This goal is high and those who aim so high often fall very low. When we essay to transcend the Venus love and cultivate the Uranian altruism we are thus in great danger, and the most promising live are sometimes wrecked by the pernicious theory of soul-mates, which leads to clandestine love affairs and perversion of the creative function. But remember this--altruism does not require return of the love bestowed upon others, it has absolutely no concern with sex; it will not lessen the love for our family, but they being nearest to us will feel the increase of our love to a greater degree than those further away, and unless our love brings forth such fruit it is not Uranian and will not further us upon the path of attainment.

Seeing this is so, we may readily understand that the great majority of humanity cannot yet respond to the higher side of Uranus, and its effect upon the morals is therefore principally perversion of sex, clandestine love affairs, free love, and disregard of conventionality; that is, of course, when aspected by squares and oppositions. Under such conditions it makes people unconventional and erratic, rebellious at the least restraint, very independent and brusque in manner, fond of pioneer work, and investigation of unusual things. They take to the higher mechanics, electricity, aviation, and the like, as a duck to water, and are rather proud of their attainments. They find prominence in literature, science, philosophy, and especially in the occult arts. Uranus also gives a high grade of musical genius when configurated with Venus, and if Uranus is well fortified in by position and aspects it qualifies the person for leadership in an unusual way. It may also be said that the effects of the Uranian ray are very sudden and unexpected, whether for good or ill, it comes like a bolt out of the blue, and as we respond most easily to its evil side, these effects are generally disastrous in nature. When Uranus is on the Ascendant it adds length to the body, so that the true Uranian are usually very tall.

SCORPIO, THE EAGLE

The nose is the most prominent feature of the Scorpio; it is large, heave, and hooked, resembling the bill of the eagle, the brows are bushy, the eyes sharp and piercing; the jaw is very heavy; the glint of the eye, and the set of the jaw indicate the great determination which is the most prominent characteristic of the Scorpio. The face is angular, complexion murky, and hair dark, with a peculiar ruddy tinge noticeable when the sun shines on it. The teeth are large and subject to early decay. The body is short and thickest, with a short, thick neck resembling that of the opposite sign, Taurus.

Scorpio people always stand up for their rights, and never submit to imposition, through prone to ride roughshod over others. They are full of worries over things that may happen, but never do, and thus make life a burden to those around them. Sarcasm that stings like a scorpion is ever upon the tip of their tongue, yet their love is strong, and their aspirations lofty. Thus there are two natures struggling in the Scorpios and they need much sympathy and forbearance from their friends. In the hour of danger they never flinch, but perform deeds of heroism with a disregard for self that amounts to foolhardiness. The mind is sharp, cool and collected, therefore Scorpio men make good army officers and excel in surgery. The Scorpio woman has a large family.

The Sun in Scorpio accentuates the good traits, and gives a love mysticism; but Mars, the ruler, brings out the worldly side of the sign and makes scoffers and skeptics.

Their sensitivity, and pride allow them to be easily hurt, quick to feel insult or injury, even when none is intended, and easily roused to heights of anger. An angry Scorpio is a sight to see. Unlike Leo, who can have a temper tantrum and five minutes later be quite himself again, Scorpio seethes, and doesn't give it up.

The ruler of Scorpio is Pluto. Prior to the discovery of the ninth planet, Scorpio was ruled by Mars, which is still considered co-ruler. The sign of cosmic purpose, Scorpio is considered the success sign. Self contained and self centered, concentrated Scorpios usually succeed in what they set out to accomplish.

Scorpions are known for their intense and powerful natures. They are willful, proud and calm with an electrifying undercurrent of seething intensity. Purposeful and animated with force, they project a magnetic personality.

Their demeanor is dignified and reserved, affable and courteous, and many have a gaze that is both direct and penetrating. Their secretive natures make them natural detectives. Many Scorpios possess a suspicious outlook, and need to know the reasons behind everything. Scorpio does nothing in half measures. An all or nothing attitude permeates their entire life. When fixed on something or someone, the scorpion perseveres. Scorpio never settles. Life is meant to be lived to the fullest or not at all.

Scorpio will rarely be found in the center of activity, but will always know just what is going on of concern to him. Their tenacity and willpower are enviable, their depth of character and passionate conviction admirable, but it is their deep sensitivity that makes them the best and most loyal friend. This same quality makes them the most treacherous of enemies

When they harness their abundant energy constructively, their self-confidence tempered with shrewdness, and their ambition coupled with generosity toward others, they excel at whatever they undertake. Scorpios are demanding of others, but never ask someone to do what they would not do themselves. They can be fanatically focused and work till they drop, and ask the same of those around them. No middle ground for a Scorpio, all or nothing.

Scorpio imagination and intuition are excellent. They possess refined critical perception and strong analytical ability. In addition, they seem to demonstrate a natural healing power. These abundant gifts allow Scorpions to penetrate the most profound subjects. They are serious folk, but quite charming to people they like, and when social events call for it. Their tragic flaw is their immense pride. Once wronged, once Scorpio's pride has been diminished, the game of courtesy is over.

---
Personally Scorpio people, I think, embodies all that is deep and easily misunderstood in all water signs. Their intensity makes them easily mistaken for a leo.

Male Scorpios have an aura of magnetism about them, no matter how geeky they look.

Female Scorpios tend to be very intense and are easily noticed because they're extremely sexy.

Virgo and Scorpio was said to have once been one symbol, but it was split into two and Libra was inserted in between (I came across this some time back and I'm doing more research on the connections. I'm not sure when the split was done, but Scorpio does have a shorter period than all the other signs)

Among other things, I also came across a lore that Scorpio has a dual nature... the Eagle and the Scorpio. The more intense and regal of the two is the Eagle, connected to the Fixed Star Altair the Eagle, often associated with the birth, rise and reigns of great Kings. (or in most cases very chqarismatic unforgettable people)

The Scorpion aspect of Scorpio is about undoing, destruction, revenge, vindictiveness and mundane pettiness. Which is the modern day stereotypical jibberish people attached to their mental image of Scorpio.

People born under this sign often suffer the stigma of the later description just because the deeper meaning of Scorpio is nearly completely forgotten. The possibility for extreme greatness and extreme pettiness exists in all of us, but somehow Scorpios are easily labelled with this, because the need for having a scapegoat is also in all of us.

SAGITTARIUS, THE CENTAUR

People born with Sagittarius rising are even taller that those born under the opposite sign, Gemini, the men in particular having large hands and feet. The size and weight of the bony frame is often too much for the ligaments of the spine to support, so these people often develop a decided stoop in later years. The face is long and well formed, the nose well proportioned, dark kindly eyes and dark chestnut hair. The body is very active, but requires much rest, as the recuperative powers are below the average.

The symbol of this sign shows that there are two widely different classes born therein. One, designated by the animal body of the Centaur, is frankly in for "a good time," they are sporty, soldiers of fortune, of roving proclivities, fond of games of change, and ready to risk their all on the turn of a card, the speed of a horse, or a game of ball, while Aries or Scorpio people may become pugilists, and Taurus people take up wresting as a profession. The sports of Sagittarius have no element of cruelty in them. Sagittarians when afflicted may become criminals, their crimes are never violent, however, but rather results of their indulgence of the animal nature.

The other class is the extreme opposite, symbolized by the human part of the sign. Here is the man rising above the animal nature, bending the bow of aspiration and aiming at limitless space, signifying the loftiest longing of that immortal spark of incipient divinity we call the soul. This class is law abiding and of the highest morals; from it come the pillars of the church and beloved rulers of state famed for integrity, benevolence and justice.

The Sun rising in this sign is sure to bring preferment even to those born in lowly and obscure circumstances, and accentuate all good shown in the sign; so will Jupiter, the ruler.

Sagittarius rules the thighs and therefore, naturally, configurations from this sign, if afflicted are likely to cause accidents to those parts. And it is notable fact that Sagittarius are very liable to broken bones under circumstances where people under other signs seldom meet injury.

In the eighth degree of Sagittarius we have the fixed star Antares, which has a very evil effect upon the sight. Two other nebulous spots in the Zodiac have a similar influence. One is Ascelli in Leo 6, the other Pleiades in Taurus 29. The Sun, or Moon, in one of those places and adversely configurated with one of the malefics, Saturn, Mars, Uranus, or Neptune gives trouble with the eyes, according to the nature of the evil aspect; or vice versa, if Saturn, Mars, Uranus or Neptune are in one of the nebulous spots adversely configurated to the Sun or Moon a similar trouble will be experienced. Should a planet like one of the above named by in retrograde motion the aspect is much worse, for when the planet has ceased to retrograde and goes direct in the Zodiac again, it will pass over which ever one of these nebulous spots it is close to a second time and thereby cause an added damage. There may be, however, a compensating side to this aspect, for it sometimes happens that while an evil configuration to one of these nebulous spots, (and Antares is the worst,) deprives a person of his sight, a benevolent configuration awakens in him a second-sight which will mitigate the loss in a degree that only those who have that sight can appreciate.

The Sagittarian must learn to realize his ideals within instead of seeking them without. We are in this school of experience for the purpose of overcoming, and it is not by running away from one place to another that we gain experience. By staying in one place, by doing our very best to attain our ideals where we are, we make our ideals come true.

A t the heart of Sagittarian lore stands the centaur Chiron; the figure of philosopher and teacher within Greek mythology. As a centaur, Chiron personifies the very soul of Sagittarius. Here is a symbol of half man, half horse, portraying the conflict between the philosophical mind and the carnal instinct of human nature. The glyph represents an arrow slung in a bow, aiming at the stars. This symbol corresponds with the Sagittarian ideals of cosmic progress and abundance. The ruler of Sagittarius is Jupiter.

Sagittarians are positive people; they have a bright outlook on life, are enterprising, full of energy and vitality. Versatile, adventurous and eager to expand their range beyond the comfortable and familiar. They enjoy travel and exploring, and their minds are continually searching for new experiences. They are ambitious, optimistic folk, and nothing seems to get them down. They are idealists, and this seems to keep them going even when life disappointments crop up and smash their plans. "To keep on, keepin' on" is a Sagittarian way of life. They have a tendency to get over zealous when they are interested in something. They are believers, and what they believe in, they are willing to fight for. They are both loyal and independent at the same time. They manage to balance both traits.

Sagittarius is strongly connected to Faith, not so much as religiousness, but real Spirituality, as in what you really believe in. People born under this sign will most undoubtedly has a strong spiritual side to them that can't be easily put into words.

The Qualities and Elements

The signs of the zodiac are grouped into two basic categories. These are known as the Qualities and the Elements. The Qualities describe fundamental modes of activity and the Elements describe temperament.

There are three Qualities: Cardinal, Fixed & Mutable

and Four Elements: Fire, Air, Earth & Water.

Your horoscope will have varying degrees of each Quality and Element. The percentages you have of each will determine their importance in your life. The higher percentages will be more powerful in your life, the lower ones will be of less influence.

The Qualities

Cardinal

The Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn. The more planets you have in any of these signs the more Cardinal you are.

Cardinal people are action oriented and initiating. They are interested in promoting change and bringing new things into existence. They are direct, assertive and like to take charge of situations. They are ambitious, independent and dislike being supervised. They are good at starting projects, but not so good at completing them, preferring to leave follow up work to more patient and persevering people. They have abundant enthusiasm and are very resourceful. Cardinal people generally don't hold grudges.

Fixed

The Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio & Aquarius. The more planets you have in any of these signs the more Fixed you are.

Fixed people are persevering and enduring. They achieve results in life through determined and persistent effort. They tend to do one thing at a time and are extremely practical in their approach to everything. They are not easily influenced by others and can be quite firm or stubborn once their minds are made up about something. They tend to hold onto things and are reluctant to change. They are staunch, but they can also be inflexible and at risk from becoming set in their ways.

Mutable

The Mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces. The more planets you have in any of these signs the more Mutable you are.

Mutable people are the most flexible of the three types. They are able to go with the flow. They are changeable and adaptable, but also indecisive and restless. They are sensitive to the opinions of others, but they can also be impressionable and easily influenced by environmental circumstances. Mutable people lack the stubbornness of the Fixed signs and the forcefulness of the Cardinal signs, which makes them good mediators or go-betweens.

The Elements

Fire

The Fire signs are Aries, Leo & Sagittarius. The more planets you have in the Fire signs the more pro-active and self-determining you are.

The Fire signs go for freedom of action and power. They strive for recognition in life. They are out-going and enthusiastic, adventure seeking and powerful. They are ardent, passionate, assertive, demonstrative, bold and courageous. They can also be impatient and bossy, wilful and reactive, especially when they face delays or obstructions in their path.

Earth

The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn. The more planets you have in the Earth signs the more practical and needful of security you are.

The Earth signs seek material security. They are down-to-earth, pragmatic, cautious, sensible and conservative. Hardworking and industrious, Earth signs are able to put into effect the ideas and inspirations of the other signs. They can be accumulative, possessive and overly materialistic. They are also sensual and pleasure seeking.

Air

The Air signs are Gemini, Libra & Aquarius. The more planets you have in the Air signs the more pro-active and self-determining you are.

The Air signs go for freedom of action and freedom of movement. Air signs need to be able to come and go at will. Their domain is the air we breathe; hence they are conduits for communication and the exchange of ideas. They are mentally alert and intellectually stimulating. Gregarious and sociable, Air signs like to be around other people. They are observant and perceptive, curious and inquisitive. They live totally in the here and now, and want to be in whatever is going on.

Water

The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces. The more planets you have in the Water signs the more needful you are of emotional security.

People with a majority of planets in the Water signs are motivated by the need to gain security in their emotional lives. They are sensitive, deep, compassionate, imaginative and intuitive. Their inner lives and dream lives are very active. They are spiritually inclined and potentially psychic, with an ability to tune into others. Life is experienced as a mystical journey. They can also be hypersensitive, impressionable and emotionally needy.

Edit:
I know it was a series of long replies, but I hope it helps clear up the notion of mishaps... Each person has an entire chart. Each chart is individual, narrowed down to minutes. So each one has a plethora of mysteries hidden in their astrological natal chart waiting to be discovered and realized. The sun sign you were born under is but one aspect of your multi-faceted complexities. The sun sign is your most obvious aspect, it does not explain the rest that is not even seen.

Quote:

That may not necessarily be the case. I've heard Scorpio further separated into a scorpion, an eagle and a phoenix, representing different levels of development within the sign. 'Scorpion' scorpios tend to embody the less pleasant elements associated with the sign - the vindictiveness and so on. 'Eagles' are further up, and 'phoenixes' are at the top, demonstrating the best of Scorpio traits.

Regardless, though, those negative traits may be associated with scorpio by people unfortunate enough to have known scorpios who displayed them. But you're absolutely right in that that's not all scorpio is - it's also the most avid seeker of truth, which can be a wonderfully insightful thing and is certainly necessary (scorpio is the ultimate conspiracy theorist). But that tendency, coupled with scorpionic emotional intensity, can unfortunately lead to the distrustfulness, and so to the other negative characteristics, associated with this sign.

But all signs have negative traits associated with them, as well - it's not just Scorpio. People think of as Gemini shallow, Taurus materialistic, Aries aggressive, Aquarius emotionless, Cancer moody - and so on.
