What a bothersome request. So pointless. Tanana was not like some of her siblings, who never thought about the outside world. Maybe the difference was she had been there to hear Ohahira ramble about the Unity Walkers. Maybe it was something else.
For the time being, putting aside the potential pain and woes her siblings faced daily, both physically and mentally, Tanana didn't really mind being a slave so much. Yes, it sounded odd for someone so preachy a lot of the time, but it was true.
What she did mind was Master Kienge putting her to use for such stupid, trivial things. Things like building a fort with rocks and sticks and sand. How completely ridiculous!
Ridiculous it was, but still Tanana had been slaving away for hours. The only rocks she'd managed to find were almost as large as she, and to say pushing them was a hassle would be putting it lightly.
She had just managed to scoot another one a couple of inches before she fell, face first, panting heavily.

Intuthu wasn't really like his siblings either. He had inherited a bit of his grandfathers soft side and it was looked down on. He rarely listened during the lessons that his parents gave him because there were always more interesting things to do whether it was chasing a fly or counting the sand. Anything was more interesting then listening to his family go on and on. Why did he care about the past? He would never live in it.
His lack of listening meant that he knew nothing of the prides customs, including that of slaves and keeping them. So when his eyes rested on a cub who seemed to collapse he was really confused. She was such odd colours.
"Hey!" He called out to her happily before running over towards her. She had black on her which looked right but then that other colour looked odd. He was sure his mother said only red, black and white were accepted colours.
"Why you laying like that? You also funny colours... and hurt." He was confused, how could she have been hurt so bad? He had the occasional mark from his mother but it wasn't anything that didn't heal quickly. She looked terrible.

Just as he didn't know of slaves, Tanana didn't know of Firekin who were not like Uzulu or Kienge. They had all been so cruel, at the very least bothersome to her and her siblings, she never really stopped to think there were ones who were different.
The cub scurried to her feet and backed away, ears pinned back. Normally, if you looked submissive, they'd give you an easier time, maybe even leave you alone. If she didn't finish this stupid task, Kienge would be angry. Nothing good came from that. So distractions were not to be brushed off it was possible.
"I'm sorry," she said in a robotic sort of voice. Though she still listened to him, she continued about her task, an odd look on her face at the mention of her colors. What about them...? "I'm fine. If you're here for Master Kienge please tell him I will be done soon."

Intuthu watched her curiously.
"Your odd."
He was nothing more then a cub and a rather stupid naive one that had already got him in trouble before but he hadn't been told much about slaves. His mother had mentioned them in passing but not what they were or why they were here.
The way that the female cub acted confused him slightly, she had looked so scared. Then she mentioned a master? What was a master Kienge? Sounded like a really odd name to him. The white cub hadn't met many of the pride maybe if he had he would have heard the name before.
"What is master Kienge? I am Intuthu, son of Nyeupe'moto and Ra. Whats your name and what are you doing?" He really didn't see the point of pushing big rocks that was obviously tiring her out. Maybe he would ask his mother about odd coloured pride members who are covered in scars. Maybe he should be chasing her out the pride? Well he would wait and see what she said.

Not surprisingly, through the eyes of the slave, he was the odd one. Shouldn't he be bossing her around by now? Telling her to do something for him? Probably something as stupid as what she was already doing. Kienge was her elected 'master', but the other Firekin had never hesitated to boss her around.
"I'm building a fort for Master Kienge," she explained politely. She hesitated a bit. Was this some sort of trick...? "My name is Tanana. I don't... understand what you're asking me. Master Kienge is a Firekin, like you are. ...Aren't you?"

She wasn't really doing well at the answering questions bit. He was just getting more confused.
"Huh?" He just stood there staring at her for a bit. Why was she building him a fort? His sister would never build a fort for Intuthu so why was she building one for this other lion and why did she show no trace of red on her? It seemed odd.
"Yes I am a Firekin, through and through. My mothers side runs back to the royal line!" He liked to boast about that though his mother never seemed very keen on the king so he got confused as to whether being linked to the royal family was a good thing or not.
"I don't get it. Why are you building him a fort? Can't he do it himself? Aren't you a firekin? I mean you do look odd, there isn't any red on you other then those scars." He was rambling a bit and blurting out questions but she was just odd and very confusing.

Tanana was glad she was facing away from him as he rambled on about his bloodline, so he wouldn't see her roll her eyes. What did that matter? If you weren't actually royalty, who cared?
His questions confused her further, but when he was done speaking, she finally realized it. Somehow, this Firekin had no idea who she was. --No, what she was...
"I'm..." Did he really not know? "I'm a slave, surely you know of us, if you're a Firekin?" Was he really a Firekin? "Kienge is my master. I do what he tells me."

A slave? There was a faint recognition but not much. His mother had said that she hadn't seen any? Or something but he rarely listened to what she said anyway. He did know what a slave was though but had never expected the pride to keep slaves so small! Surely she wasn't much use being that small? She seemed to keep collapsing just try to move the big rock.
"But your so small! Maybe that is why you are all scratched up. How can you do anything!" He wasn't trying to insult her in anyway he still couldn't understand why a cub would be forced to do things, surely they weren't that useful? He would have to ask his parents when he got back to the den, it was a whole new experience, cub slaves. He also thought they were something of the past as his mother had never said anything but they obviously weren't.
"I want a slave." If this young cub was doing work that was too much for her then if he had a slave he could get them to fight his siblings for things instead and then he wouldn't be the one with marks on him but the slave would. It seemed like a brilliant idea! "I want to meet your master." That seemed the sensible thing to do.

Tanana listened to his ramblings while she continued doing her task. When the mention of his own slave came up, she had to resist hard the urge to tense up. "I don't know where my Master is, but he can't give you any slaves. He doesn't have any but me."
It wasn't a lie. Kienge was her master, and Kienge didn't own any of her siblings but her. Uzulu did.

"He might know how to get one though!" He was interested in slaves now though he still wasn't sure what it was he could do with them. As far as he could see at the moment all he was able to do was boss them around and that was perfectly fine for him! He wanted to be able to do what ever he wanted.
"Why did you get hurt though? Rocks can't hurt you surely!" He wasn't the most intelligent of cubs, that was for sure! He was learning something though. He had so many questions to ask his mother. He really wanted a slave too!
