User Image Marlee scanned around her home with whimisical eyes. It was a nice day in the marshland. The tall grasses were as green as ever lightly brushing against Marlee's legs, the water a nice, cool blue besides the random patches of muddy water that made their own stream through the grasses.

Taking in a deep breath her wings extended taking in the wonderful morning. Glancing down she noticed her usual stepping stones that led to the next stable patch of land from her home. A now playful smile ran across her face as her green eyes lit up. Stepping down on the stone she got good gripping and then jumped into the air, her wings caught up with her and eased her down onto the next rock, she soon grew a rythym going along, skipping from rock to rock, her wings the only things keeping her from the murky waters.

Nyota practically pranced through the lightly forested area, his hooves and paws dancing on the ground, his tan colored fur shining like amber in the sunlight. He sniffed at the air, and on a whim, turned toward the marshlands, an area in the opposite direction of his home in the forest. With a sigh of contentment, he trotted across the ground, the long grasses brushing at his legs. His blue eyes took in everything around him, from the sight of the long green grass, to the bright blue sky, to the shining water, to the flying Malu . . .

Nyota screeched to a halt, the last sight having immediately caught his attention. He turned his head to where he had seen the flying Malu, but saw nothing. He shook his head ruefully, wondering if his mind was playing tricks again, but there! There she was again! Nyota watched with fascination as the Malu appeared over the edge of the grass, feathered wings catching the air before she disappeared again. Utterly intrigued, he walked closer, pushing through the tall foliage until he saw what was happening. The young Maluess was hopping across the stones randomly placed in the midst of a stream. He laughed then, rather sheepishly, finding it silly that he had thought that he had finally found a Malu who could fly.

He stood off to the side, and watched the lovely Malu as she bounded across the stones, with obvious admiration, a small tugging at his muzzle.

Marlee's graceful leaps finally ended as she made it to the end of the her stony path and landed gently on the solid grass infront of her. An innocent giggle escaped her lips as she gave a smile of delight looking back to where she had made her small feat proudly.

Except, when she glanced over she felt her ears give a curious twitch. Blinking her unique eyes she looked up from the skipping stones to see another malu watching her in simple amusment. Her ears now fell a bit back behind her head as she made obvious eye contact with the rather dashing, male malu.

The maluess gave a seemingly dull, but curious look. Her wings gave a faint flap as she was assessing the malu finally asking in a rather whimsical voice," may I assist you, quite dashing malu?" It was clear that she seemed to not really censor what she said, while her slightly zoned out look remained on her face.

Nyota realized that he was being rather rude by staring at the Malu, but his blue eyes seemed fixated on her. Her coloring was mesmerizing, both simple and complex, and utterly beautiful. He shook his head back and forth as if to clear it and then smiled again at the Maluess, surprised by her question. He walked over to her and bowed, scraping his antlers gently against the dirt beneath him.

"I'm apologize for staring, but that was quite an interesting journey you made back there. You almost looked as though you were flying," he added with a wistful smile. Nyota glanced down at the dashing comment, both slightly embarrassed and pleased. Deciding to be frank, he gazed back at her, his blue eyes sparkling with amusement.

"I thank you for the offer, lovely Maluess, but I have nothing that I need assisting with, as tempting as the offer might be."

Marlee stood in a rather lax position, having no seeming ties to formality. A lackidasical smile spread across her face as the malu walked over to her and gave a bow, so making sure not to be rude she gave a small nod, her own version of a bow.

Her eyes seemed to brighten slightly as he brought up the word 'flying'. The maluess' smile also brightend as she tilted her head downward following his embarrassed gaze downward and spoke simply seeming to dwell on her words momentarily," flying? That would remarkable, wouldn't it..?" Though, as he moved his head back up she did the same now a brighter complexion. His blue eyes were lovely, they matched the blue of the marshes cleanest water and instantly gave Marlee a sense of relationship between the two.

A sweet giggle came from her lips hearing his even sweeter reply and gave a soft nod with her delicate head," I am sorry for asking a not needed question then..Usually creatures that fall upon the marshlands are lost, I escort them out, but they never seem to return to visit." She gave a faint shrug as if not understanding her own dull expression at times and scattered thoughts said aloud.

Nyota smiled, amused. He found this Maluess enchanting, and could not imagine that others would not want to return for a visit. Then again, if a Malu got lost, that might be a blow at pride, and they wouldn't want to return. Either that, or they were to busy to come back to visit their rescuer. What a shame. Nyota pranced in place slightly, a habit of his when he is pleased. He caught the enchanting female's glance, and was surprised again at her eye color. It was a golden-yellow that reminded him of sunlight on a spring day. It immediately made him relax, realizing that he could stare at those eyes all day.

He shook his head again, having never been a completely fanciful Malu, and chuckled kindly at her comment before responding, "You may ask me an unnecessary question any time you like. And I don't believe that I am lost, though I may well be," at that thought, he glanced around, his lanky neck searching over the edge of the grass. With a sheepish grin he admitted, "Alright, I am lost, though I didn't have the intention of doing so. Though, I suppose one rarely has the intention of getting lost," he added with a laugh, his blue gaze dancing.

"Well, of the few times that I have been lost, this is by far the most pleasant," said Nyota, thoroughly enjoying both the company and the surroundings. The marshland felt just as homey as the forest to him.

Marlee's head lazily tilted to one side as she seemed to scan over everything in her vision. For a rather relaxed maluess, her eyes always remained alert even if they didn't move that much. Still, not really caring she stared right back into Nyota's wonderfully, water blue eyes rathe enjoying the happiness within them.

As he spoke to her the maluess looked down watching him prance in place like a child. Looking back up to him with a rather innocent expression a content smile spread across her face as she nodded," true, being lost is usually no intention of anyone...at least if the circumstance is normal."Keeping her eyes locked on him her wings spread a little as they stretched," I may help you exit the marshlands if you wish. Though, I never understand why creatures wish to leave, I find it quite homey, besides the occasional murky water you fall in or the mud that is easy to get stuck in.." She seemed to trail off from her negative comments about her blessed home.

Still, her smile gained some potential as he seemed content with his lost-ness because of her. Though, she straigthend her head back up and chuckled as she gave a small jerk of her head upward," you are very good with making a girl smile...I feel you exercise that ability often."

Nyota shook his head in both amusement and amazement at her frank speaking. He found that he liked it. Too many times he had run across Malu who danced around their words, never really saying what they wanted to say. For the most part, he was one of them, chewing on his words, but this time, he spoke as frankly as she did.

"Ah, but making girls smile is my specialty, and it is made all the more easy when I find one with a smile that I really want to see." He laughed again, another often practiced exercise of his. He fluttered his wings, enjoying the feel of the marshland breeze on his feathers, and winked at her, catching her alluringly golden gaze once again.

"I might take you up on that offer, but for right now, I am enjoying being lost. The marshlands are quite beautiful, and I think are made all the more lovely with their potential hazards. It is the same with every landscape, but I particularly like the forest and the marsh. They both feel a lot like home," he said with a contented smile playing at his muzzle. "You know, you seem to share the talent for encouraging smiles, only the other way around."

Marlee quietly listened to him chat. A very kind and rather adorable malu, he was. She was curious at how he found great pleasure in making a lot of maluess' smile since she wondered if he ever just wanted a smile from a certain malu girl.

So, she raised a slim brow and srunched the other in a, finally, definite expression as she quizically asked, " I see..but do you not wish for a certain maluess smile from time to time? Wouldn't it be boring to only see smiles and not what is below them?" For this winged maluess it was rare for her to give out her words of thought especially in this way since she usually felt it unneccesary to share.

Except, within a blink of an eye her sharp expression faded back in her capricious state while he once again continued. Giving a small nod she glanced around for a moment before she spoke, " I have never left the marshlands. My parents say that since I follow the goddess of these marshes I should not leave or I may get in trouble with her divine being." Letting out a little snip of her life she had not really noticed she had as she looked to him and gave an innocent smile as if feeling it was normal for those sort of things to happen to malus.

Nyota's expression turned thoughtful as he mulled over her words. This certainly was no 'ordinary' Maluess, but then again, who defined 'ordinary'? She certainly was intriguing though. Nyota had a feeling that her rather carefree visage was a bit of a mask, as she had already shown him a few glimpses of a rather sharper mind.

His eyes glittered as he answered her, in the same order her questions had been asked. "Smiles are very pleasant, but I will admit that there comes a time when one gets tired of them. And of course their is one Maluess whose smile I want to see above all others."

He took another moment to mull over her other comments, about having never left the marshlands. He wondered if there was something else that was binding her to this place, because he didn't personally think that her deity would be angered by her leaving the marsh. Nyota let his smile fade away, and replied seriously. "The marshes certainly are beautiful, and would be a wonderful place to live, but I don't think I would be able to stay in one place forever. After all, the Malu are made to be social creatures. Personally, I don't think your Goddess would be angered by your occasional excursion from this land, but I wouldn't know for sure."

Marlee giggled softly at his reply to smiles, knowing who he meant. Though, her face softend to just an innocent stare as she gave a tilt of her head acting slightly confused, " I thought you may bore of them, I feel I would over time...Oh, who's smile would that be? Your mother's?" It was sincere question since she had not seen her mother for the past few days and felt she needed a smile from her to go on at times.

The young maluess was rather surprised by this malu. He had not yet asked to leave, given her an odd look and he pranced and his eyes sparkled with every thought that crossed his mind. He was so open without even knowing it, yet it seemed he had a sense of it all, her ears twitched in her sub-thoughts.

The innocene finally faded from her face as he spoke of leaving of her gracious home. Looking to him with curious, but skeptical eyes she listened intently as if this was a completely new concept for her. She shifted a little in her step and shrugged seeming to consider the idea, " the marshes are where my family arose from, grew in. They feel it would be an injustice to leave the land that has sustained us for so many years...Social? I don't know about that, I'm quite content by myself, since that is usually how I end up, heh, I guess you just get used to it over time." Still, the idea of her goddess not being angered by her journey out, even for a few minutes made her wonder aloud, " though, I do stare at the treeline of the forest often. I am slightly interested in what lies in those darkend trunks and firm ground all around..."

Nyota stood quite still, considering her words. She was certainly giving him a lot to think about, and he didn't even know her name yet. His mannerly upbringing demanded that he make an introduction, but he pushed it aside, pondering what she had said. His eyes darted back to her innocent expression, and he got the feeling that she did know who he was speaking about when discussing the matter of smiles. However, if she wanted to play innocent, he would play along.

"My mother's? Not quite. I haven't seen my mother in quite some time, as my parents are a bit reclusive. I see them perhaps once or twice a year, but my mother smiles about as much as I do, so our expressions of happiness are quite common. No, the smile that I wish to see is one that I haven't seen all that often."

He left that discussion there and returned to the comment about leaving the marshlands. Just as her eyes seemed to dance when she spoke about her home, so did his as he discussed the forest. "The forest really is quite a beautiful place, with the treetops filtering in the sunlight, and the still silent life of the forest is something that I love." His gaze went faraway, as he imagined the many times that he had wandered through his home.

Marlee's smile faded as he continued to not upfront answer her question. She thought it was cute and slightly odd when a malu could not just say their point, since that was pretty much how she spoke, still, she did understand that she was not like most malu, but still, it was obvious, why wouldn't he just come out and say it.

Letting out a small sigh she gave a bit of a confused look and spoke in her usual tone, " you are a very vague speaker when you are to shy to get to the point. You know this..right?" The maluess had a feeling that he was quite aware of his ways, but she liked to hear it from the person because assumptions can easily be wrong.

Still, soon enough Marlee tilted her head to the side once more and listened to him fantasize about his home. It sounded like a nice place to go she was a fan of trees, but in the marshland she never saw any. Giving a curious smile she asked him, " how much do you enjoy silence? I find it bothersome at times.."

Nyota just stared at her for a moment, before erupting into laughter. How frank she was! He had never met any Malu like her and was certain that he would never meet another one. Obviously his God had been meddling in his affairs once again, but this time he was glad for it. He counted himself truly lucky to have gotten lost in the marsh with this intriguing female.

His blue eyes danced once again as he answered her, a bright smile pulling at his muzzle. "Very well, my frank lady, the smile that I wish to see is yours. Normally I wouldn't come out and say that, but ah, you have already seen that. Most Malu aren't as frank in their conversations as you are, but it is a pleasing relief to be able to say what you want to say."

He was without embarrassment, as he knew, or at least he hoped, that she would take the compliment for what it was. He hadn't had a more enjoyable meeting in many years. His amber colored ears twitched at her next question, and he answered her thoughtfully. "I suppose there are times that I enjoy silence, but there are times one wishes for noise as well. I like a balance between the two, so that you don't get accustomed to, or tire of one or the other."

Marlee's face lit up with surprise at the malu's sudden laughter. She blinked as her ears went back slightly not knowing what to make of it as he seemed quite content with her for her question.

Still, finally getting the straight forward answer she had been wishing for Marlee finally allowed a sincere smile to shine through her dark coat as she chuckled looking up to him, " I don't see why you hold it all in. It's such a hassle to hold in all your thoughts and emotions, I feel it is best to allow them freedom with little censorship, good or bad..maybe you should try it more often, so for a reward I will give you my smile."

The maluess was glad that she was able to give the pleasure of a simple smile to a malu that did it more then he slept it seemed. Though, finally as he spoke of the balance Marlee glanced around assessing his words, " hm, in the marshlands I am usually alone. Besides the occasional frog or duck..But the marshes are never silent, there's always a breeze, a chirp, a trickle, I do not believe I could stand the silence of the forest."
