He was onto something, the scent of a hare, hah... it wasn't much, but it would make a good snack at least. And he wanted to test his skills, see if he was still with it enough to keep up with the small nimble creatures.
His heavy paws carried him rather lightly as he sped along the ground, tracking the scent, and waiting until he was close enough before he'd duck into the grasses for cover, thankful for his matching pelt, which helped him blend so well, so often. Maybe later on he'd try for larger prey, but for now, some poor rodent was about to get very unlucky.

"Yeh, thassrite! Fly off! Ye aint gettin' hare today, mister! "
Said hare was currently waving his small fists at the sky, one containing three feathers of the rather suprised looking hawk that flitted away quickly, disbelieving it'd been bested by what it ate in such a way. one thing was not to catch it, another was to..
Well, lose feathers to it. And get kicked in the face.
He hopped around a bit, after setting his feathers firmly in his mouth, and leapt up onto a rock, looking around for any signs of danger; usually, people were so taken aback by the hawk-hunting hare, that they didn't really go for him, but you never knew..

Matifu kept low as the hare exhibited some... very.......... strange... behavior. Quirking a feline brow, and staring the creature down, Matifu momentarily forgot himself. What on Earth was this creature on about, was it rabid? Perhaps he shouldn't then... he wasn't fond of the idea of getting sick by eating rabid rodent.
Well, for today at least, then, he'd let it live.
"I must have missed a memo, the food chain, reversing itself?"

The hare froze up for a moment, ducking against the rock, when he registered what the lions voice had said. He looked around, and located easly where the direction came from; ears were good for that, especially these huge ones. He prepared his strong hind legs, ready to leap clean over the lion should he come near the rock he perched on.
"No, I dun eat them. I just stop 'em from eatin me. " And the feathers-- boy, he hoped he'd manage to get home and add these three to the collection.

"Right... I suppose that's a resonable priority for one such as yourself." He smirked, amused and baffled. Here he was conversing with what was supposed to be his meal ticket, but now he wasn't so sure. It would be.... weird, eating something he'd swapped conversation with. Like... cannibalism in a way. Matifu frowned at his clear disposition, especially when his stomach rumbled in protest. He supposed, he'd just have to go hungry for a while longer. "So what's your name, hare? And what's with the feathers?"

"The feathers.. " He pondered on n answer quietly, but keeping his eyes determinedly on the lion. "I collect them. My burrow is full. Its ta teach those dumb birds a lesson. 'n their pretty. " He shrugged. Not to ention, he had the softest bet around, formed by ostritch feathers and down-- oohlala.
"My name is Iva. And you, lion? " His ears were flat against hif body, and he'd moved the feathers to beneath his paws, talking with them was weird.

"Matifu." Came the short answer, which followed a nod at the explanation. Though he was curious, and once more quirked a brow at the odd creature, well-- odd in his eyes anyway. "What got you started on that anyway? Personal vindetta... random goal...? Humor me, since I'm skipping lunch to hear this." He sighed a bit, getting comfortable where he sat, not intending to move either way for now.

"Neither. I started just 'cause. Once a hawk came at me an' I was up against a rock. I jumped up and it hit the rock, and since it was dizzy, I grabbed a few feathers, just to brag 'bout. Then I started just collectin' em. And now some hawks know me. " The hare puffed up proudly, hich was a rather odd sight, perhaps, a hare looking proud. But hey, iva was a.. 'special' hare, yes, yes he was. And everyone better know it.
"Some lions leve me 'lone too. " Well, usually because they saw what he did to hawks. He'd stolen a whisker once or twice, too.

"Well then, I suppose I was wise to choose not to cross paws with one such as yourself, Iva." He chuckled, not meaning to belittle the other, but unable to stop himself from being a bit sarcastic.
With a great stretch of his forepaws Matifu then licked his chops, settling his head down on his legs to watch the hare curiously. His large body flattened the grass beneath his stocky form, creating quite the odd scene as predator and prey continued to converse.
"So then, shall I be sure to spread the word of Iva the fierce?"

"if ya want. " He shrugged, slightly annoyed by the sarcasm. But thsi was a lion, he couldn't trick it as easy as a hawk. "Just tell 'em if they come after me, they'll go home lackin' some whiskers. " The hare huffed, ruffling his fur slightly and settling a bit more comfortably on the rock.
You never knew if this lino would snap, suddenly.

He couldn't restrain any longer. Matifu started to chuckle, which turned into an all out laugh, the large male rolling onto his side as the mirth spilled forth in such a rude manner that was completely unintentional. The idea was ludicrous! A rabbit, a hare, hunting lions for whiskers and hawks for feathers! Completely insane and laughable!

"'m not joking! " The hare snorted, perking his ears in annoyance, and looking down at the lion. Oh, how tempted he was to just hop down and pull out one of its whiskers-- it deserved it. "I dun usually get them unless they come after me-- and they don't much anyway. But if they do-- "
He left it there with an edge, and stoof, looking offended down at the lion. How dare he doubt Iva, the hawk-hunter?! Birds evoided him! And the lion had seen the hawk, how could he find this funny?! "Listen up, fuzzy-wuzzy, we hare's can do lots more than you can. " Run faster, for one. Well, kind of. They zigzagged quickly and that was it. Besides, lions couldn't live on hares. They weren't enough.

Was Matifu listening? Sadly, no, he was too busy laughing hysterically. The poor hare, insulted first and now this. But who'd ever heard of a hare hunting lions and hawks?!
Matifu rolled further onto his other side then, grasping at the ground desperately as if it would help him breathe or see straight past the tears now burning his eyes.

Okay, he was asking for it. Hopping off the rock, he gently squeezed the tips under the rock so they wouldn't blow away, then hopped near the lion, quirking his brow in annoyance and evoiding the paws. Finally, he got in a good position, and managed to get a whisker between his paws, and tugged.
It wasn't really strong enough to yank it out, it wasn't his intention, but he wanted to stop this laughter. "I. Am. Serious! " The hare said, giving the whisker another strong tug, then hopping back up onto the rock, looking down annoyed at the lion, waiting for a reaction. "So quit yer laughin! "

Ahahaha! Haha-- OW!!
"Hey!" The laughter abruptly stopped with Matifu's startled shouts, and he grumbled, glaring at the hare as he rubbed his now sore upper muzzle. "Damn! You're awfully damned mouthy for a walking midnight snack."
