Until recently, this quiz was on hiatus. It is now back open, so feel free to PM me answers to the questions. ;D I might be a little slow in answering, and I'll be in London from May 5th-12th, but other than that I'll be here!

[[DOCTOR WHO QUIZ]]

How much do YOU know about Doctor Who? Test your knowledge and earn gold doing it!
Table of contents:
-- Info and rules (you are here)
-- Questions
-- Winner's Circle
-- Prizes
-- A+ Answers
-- Reserved

[[INFO AND RULES]]

Okay, here's how this is going to work. In the next post down, there will be roughly a hundred questions. They won't be simple questions, but more like short-answer. Each question you answer to my satisfaction will earn you a certain amount of gold. Answer all of them to my satisfaction and win a much larger prize. See the third post for details.

You don't have to answer all at once. Take your time. I'll be keeping track in the third post. (: You also don't have to answer them all in order. I'll be keeping track of which questions you've answered as well.

PM me with you answers. Title the PM "Doctor Who Quiz" or something similar, and include the number of the question or questions you're answering.

Questions will vary greatly. Some may be opinion questions. Others may be factual questions. Some will be hard, others easy. They'll range through the whole series, including spin-offs like Torchwood. I'm looking for detail in the answers, so don't give me s**t.

Try not to flood me with tons of PMs. If you're answering a bunch of questions, send your answers all at once, not one at a time. If I don't get around to responding right away, be patient. I will. I have a job, friends, and a college semester starting soon. My life is not devoted to Gaia.

You MAY discuss the questions and your ideas for answers here in the thread! Just don't post your actual answer. And if I think anyone is cheating, they'll be banned from the game. I try to be fair, but I can't stand plagiarism.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, QUOTE ANY OF THE FIRST FOUR POSTS. Doing so will disqualify you from the event completely.

Have fun!

[[QUESTIONS]]

Not all the questions are here. I'm still writing them all. You can still answer these, but until there are 100 you can't win the sealed. I'll try to have them up by the end of the week!

1) Which Doctor is your personal favorite, and why? What is it about that Doctor that draws you to him? How many of them are you actually familiar with? Be specific. There is technically no right or wrong answer, but you'll probably need at least a paragraph for your response to be accepted.

2) Have you seen any of the classic series? If so, how much? How did you learn about it, and how did you watch it? Do you prefer it to the new series or not, and why? If you haven't seen any, why? If you could, where would you start? Again, details are key.

3) The fourth Doctor, portrayed by Tom Baker, if often said to be the most popular Doctor. Why do you think that is? Even if you don't personally like him, what is it about him that you think draws others in? Do you think it has more to do with the way he is written, the way he is portrayed, both, or neither? Why?

4) David Tennant has also enjoyed huge success as the tenth Doctor. Why do you think this is? Is it solely because he's often considered attractive, or is it his portrayal of the Doctor? Or both? Or is it something else?

5) If Tennant leaves during the next season, who would be your first choice to play the eleventh Doctor, and why? What sort of personality do you think this new Doctor should have, and why?

6) Doctor Who has had some great writers in its years. Currently, Steven Moffat is a favorite, and in the past, even science fiction legend Douglas Adams wrote several serials! So if you could have anyone in the world write - alive or dead - an episode for Doctor Who, who would it be, and why?

7) The Doctor has always been male, but fans have always banded about the idea of a female Doctor. Do you think it would be interesting or detrimental if the next Doctor were female? Why? How would it change the show?

8 ) The Doctor has always been a sort of sexless character. Any relationships with companions were kept at friendship, for the most part. In the new series, however, there is a huge emphasis on the romantic aspect. Do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? Would you want to see the Doctor paired romantically with another character on the show, or would you rather he remained a loner? Does the unavoidable age and species difference constitute a problem or not? Why?

9) The Doctor's personality changes with each regeneration, but he's still the Doctor each time. The core of his personality doesn't change. How would you describe the core personality? The bit that doesn't change from Doctor to Doctor?

10) Which Doctor do you think would win in a massive beatdown? No weapons? Haha, have fun answering this one!

11) In the new series, the sonic screwdriver is the Doctor's favorite toy. He had it in the old series too, but during Peter Davison's run they got rid of it because they thought it was too useful - it seemed to help the Doctor out of every situation, and where's the fun in that? Now it's back and it seems to have more uses than ever. Is this a good thing? Do you think it adds to the plot, or would you rather see the Doctor struggle to come up with some clever way of getting himself out of trouble without it? Is it being over-used? Why?

12) The Master is a character that's never really changed that much over the course of his regenerations. All of them have had their quirks but his basic personality and his plots have always been roughly the same. The newest Master, however, is dramatically different! He's almost a carbon copy of the tenth Doctor. Do you think this adds to or takes away from his character and why?

13) Now we'll move away from opinion questions for a little while. These might be a little harder. You have to earn that sealed letter! (: Identify the serial this screenshot came from. (hint: this is far more distinctive than it looks at first.)

14) Identify which Master this is.

15) Identify which Master THIS is!

16) Identify the actor in this screenshot. (hint: this is trickier than it seems!)

17) Identify this classic monster.

18 ) Identify which serial this screenshot comes from. Look at the WHOLE picture for clues. This one might be a little TOO tough. If no one can get it, I'll replace it, but the first person to get it will get an extra prize, so don't stop trying! (: Ceribri got it! : D It's staying.

19) Identify which serial this screenshot comes from. This one should be much easier. (:

20) Moving back to these sorts of questions for a while, what sort of companion would you like the Doctor to travel with next? What would you like him or her to be like, and where should s/he come from? Why is s/he traveling with the Doctor? Who would you like to play him/her?

21) Do you like that the newest Doctors are younger and more attractive or do you think that takes away from the spirit of the show? Should the Doctor be portrayed by an older actor? Why or why not? Try to stay away from answers like "the audience identifies more with a younger actor" because I'm not asking about what's best for the show commercially - I'm asking what YOU would prefer. (: (I'd also prefer it if you staying away from "identifying with" altogether unless you're really going to get in deep, as otherwise it's way too vague)

22) Would you have liked to have seen a series made following the 1996 TV movie, starring Paul McGann as the eighth Doctor, or are you glad it ended with that? Is you answer a result of your like/dislike of McGann or just of the movie? Even if you disliked the movie, do you think McGann would have made a good or bad Doctor, and why?

23) If you have heard any of the eighth Doctor Big Finish audio plays, what did you think of McGann in those? What did you think of his comanions and his adventures? If not, why? Would you ever be interested in doing so in the future, and if so, how high is it on your list of priorities?

24) During the first Doctor's run there were a lot of historical stories, made as an attempt to keep the show educational. These stopped with the early second Doctor serial The Highlanders, and for many seasons afterwards they didn't return at all. Do you think this was a good idea or do you like the historical episodes/serials, and why? Where or when would you like to see one set next, and why?

25) If you could have any twenty-five of the missing episodes back, which would you choose, and why?

26) If you were to write an episode for Doctor Who, what would it be about? Try to be specific.

27) What sort of storylines or characters would you like to see in the next series? Would you like to see the return of old monsters, or new monsters? What would you hope for the continuing storyline? Would you like more revealed about the Time War, or do you prefer for that to remain a mystery?

28) If you could choose any classic monster/villian to return in the next series, which would you choose, and why? What serial did you see them in/hear about to convince you of this?

29) Catherine Tate has returned for the fourth series as Donna. What do you think of her? How has your opinion changed or not changed from when you saw her in Runaway Bride? Why do you or don't you like her?

30) If you were to take over RTD's job, in what direction would you take the show? What would you change about, and what would you keep the same? Don't say you wouldn't change anything - we all know that's not true.

31) Do you prefer the episodic format that the new series uses, or the 20-50 episode seasons that were divided into serials? Which way do you think the show works better? Did you like the cliffhangers or do you prefer for the storyline to be wrapped up in one episode? Do you think one episode is not enough time to tell a good story, or do you think it is?

32) What did/do you like most about David Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor? What aspect of the character to you think he does especially well? Why? What is one scene that you feel demonstrates that especially well? Why?

33) What did/do you like least about David Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor? Why? What is one scene that you feel demonstrates that? Why?

34) What did/do you like most about Christopher Eccleston's portrayal of the Doctor? What aspect of the character to you think he does especially well? Why? What is one scene that you feel demonstrates that especially well? Why?

35) What did/do you like least about Christopher Eccleston's portrayal of the Doctor? Why? What is one scene that you feel demonstrates that especially well? Why?

36) What is your favorite serial/episode/group of episodes as of yet? Why? What about it did you think was particularly effective? Is there anything about it you would change if you could?

37) Have you read any of the New Adventure books? If yes, did you enjoy them? Are there any you are really fond of? Why? If no, why not, and do you ever plan to?

38) Which minor character from only one episode/serial would you like to see reappear? How so? As a regular or another one-time thing? How would you like the reappearance to play out?

39) What are 2-3 songs that otherwise have no connection to Doctor Who, but that you associate with the show, or that remind you of it in some way? Why? Because of the lyrics, the tone, or something else? How did you come to associate that song with the show? If there aren't any, wait. Think about the music you listen to and see if you can connect any of it to the show. I won't accept answers like "I don't have any. I don't listen to music."

40) Say RTD wanted an episode where DW "merged" (they land on) with another established fantasy world, and wanted you to chose which one. Which would you chose, and why? Middle-Earth? Discworld? Another? Anything goes - movies, books, video games - as long as it's clearly fantasy, not science fiction. (:

41) The Doctor has already tangled with vampires and werewolves, but there are plenty of other classic monsters out there for him to come face to face with! What would be your first choice? Frankenstein? Dwarves? Etc.? Why? How do you think it would play out?

42) Which famous dead person should the Doctor meet next? There are many to choose from, but make sure you don't pick someone the Doctor's already met! Why would your choice be interesting? How do you think they would react to each other?

43) A factual question: Does or could the TARDIS have an infinite amount of space? Why or why not? Where in the series is it proven either way?

44) Which Doctor invented the sonic screwdriver, how did it come to be invented, and which Doctors used it?

45) It's common for the Doctor to have female companions, but he's had male companions as well. There was always a male companion for the first two Doctors, but since Jamie the Doctor has only had three male companions - Adric, Turlough, and Jack (Adam not included). Do you prefer male or female companions, and why?

[[A+ ANSWERS]]

What is an A+ Answer? If you submit an answer to a question that really impresses me with its attention to detail, you win an extra prize in addition to the 10g for answering, and you get your answer posted here.
It is difficult to impress me, but I like pretty language. If you can turn a phrase, that's definitely point-worthy in my books.
If you wish it to be anonymous, just tell me. If you really don't want it posted, I won't, so don't be afraid to ask. (:

[[ANSWERS]]

For question #10:
"None. Wait- Peter Davison and William Hartnell will be the last two standing. Peter with his celery (NOT A WEAPON) and William with his grumpy old man insults. Peter will give William a whiff of his celery, William will sneeze, and the snot lands on Peter, causing him to fall in disgust. WILLIAM HARTNELL WINS!!!"
--woolie

For question #10:
"-Jon Pertwee for the win! He knows martial arts, kung foo and all that jazz. Not to mention he can run them all over with Bessie.
-William Hartnell is too old so he will probably sit out from exhaustion not just that but he doesn't like fights and belives that's not the way to solve things.
-Everyone would trip over Patrick Troughton and Sylvester Mccoy because they are so small (bless 'em).
-Tom Baker would strangle himself because his scarf would catch on things.
-Peter Davison wouldn't even attempt because he is rather passive. 'You know how it is; you put things off for a day and next thing you know, it's a hundred years later'.
-Colin Baker would blind himself from his own umbrella (all hail the perty colours).
-Paul McGann would sit in his trailer and hire a stunt man to do the fight for him (damn those who think they are too good, just because they were in a movie).
-Christopher Eccleston would drown in his own spit (see episode Dalek).
-David Tennant would be too distracted by the lady passer byers 'I just snogged Madame De Pompadour!'."
-- rainy day blues

For question #29:
"I think Donna's going to be a brilliant companion. At least, she will be if she's picked up by the Doctor AFTER she's had some time to travel since the Racnoss. People tend to judge her too quickly, saying she's shouty and all that. They don't take into mind that she didn't go with the Doctor the first time willingly. She thought that she had been kidnapped, and all that. There were moments during the episode where you could see her through the shouty...and I think that if she's more like that, then everything will be top notch. "
-- Raevyn_Angel

For question #31:
"I rather like the way it's set up now. By limiting the story lines to one, two, or three episodes, it keeps the writers from writing too many 'running down corridors' scenes. While the stories are brilliant, Classic Who tends to drag a bit, and I think it was due to the fact that they had four or so episodes to tell a two or three (at most) episode story. I enjoy cliffhangers...even though they drive me mad most of the time. XD I watched season one and two when they were out on DVD, so there was no 'wait for next week!' involved. Then I started watching season three. I literally yelled at the screen when Human Nature ended all cliffhangery. I've gone on a ramble. Sorry. Cliffhangers! I like 'em. They give you something to ponder and speculate until the next week."
-- Raevyn_Angel

For question #12:
I don't actually agree with this answer in the SLIGHTEST, but it's good enough that it deserves this anyway. XD
"When I first saw the new Master in Utopia, I thought he was a joke. He just didn't seem scary at all- with all of his lame jokes, he looked more like a prankster. But as I got into Sound of Drums, I realized that he was actually pretty scary (though not scream/ run away type scary). I don't think he's a carbon copy of the 10th Doctor. Sure, they both make jokes, but the Master is different. He has no concept of empathy. And having the Master and the Doctor share some aspects of their personality amplifies their differences. In a way, it makes the Master even more scary, because he's like the Doctor is some ways, and we all know how smart and scary the Doctor can be."
-Lemur9

For question #32:
I like the knack 10 has of swinging between moods, so that you think he’s silly and boyish, but then he becomes an iron bar and you walk right into him. Ouch. I also like his habit of rambling at 100km per hour, and using sci-fi jargon. I loved the scene in... The Family Of Blood, I think it was, when John Smith starts rambling on, then stops and says ‘Is that how he talks?’. I also loved the kitten scene in Gridlock and the ‘new teeth’ bit, but that’s irrelevant.
